Gunboat....HELP!!!
Have recently played Gunboat....and, while in "normal" Diplomatic games I have a good record in recent months, Gunboat was a **disaster**.

Fund for the Public Interest
Anyone worked for them? I was offered a job as a field manager, making about 400-500 a week for the summer. I've read plenty of bellyaching online. Some of it was legitimate, but has since largely been resolved by a class action lawsuit. The rest was basically complaining that it was a lot of work, at only a little bit above minimum, and repeated failure to meet your fundraising quota resulted in firing, no if's and's or but's about it.

whAT?!?!?!?!? tHE HElL yOu say?!?! A LEFTIST environmental organization is....<GASP!!!!>...a scam? A Fraud? No way...

I mean....given all the "Green energy" companies going BANKRUPT (even WITh Federal funding....) I was SURE that all enviro-green-earth-first organizations were legit....

lol Too funny. Get a REAL JOB next time, and don't whine about getting screwed by your leftist political organization.

@Krellin, I'm not sure who that is directed at. But I haven't been screwed over yet. Also I'm not sure what makes this particular position not a "real job". Also abusive labor policies (if they actually are doing that) wouldn't necessarily make them a fraud or a scam. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to defend them as I have little to no experience with them.

@Putin, yea I've been reading a fair amount of that online, but as far as I can tell they largely eliminated most of those practices in 2007 and some more in 2009.

But for real, any first hand knowledge?
Putin33 (111 D)

Not first hand, a good friend of mine worked for GCI and had a terrible experience. Now, this happened around 2006, so they might have cleaned up their act. But their whole purpose is to do fundraising at virtually zero cost to the NGOs, so I doubt it.

So he worked for them for about a month and was the #1 or #2 overall fundraiser for his office, and yet they fired him for missing quota and didn't pay him his wages for the one week he missed. They also don't give you breaks and pressure you/mislead you to take on extra hours voluntarily for no pay. You also shift from campaign to campaign so the thing you were interested in and really passionate about doesn't end up being the thing you work on, or if you do work on it you work on it for a day.

The no pay thing, and "volunteer" projects I know have both been done away with. But hey, if the pay really is 400-500 a week (About right based on hours work to hourly wage) then I don;t really care how much pavement I have to pound.

I suspect that Puddle is a victim of NOT READING THE CONTRACT but instead he bought in to the hype...

Yeah...I've done door to door sales before too. DRAMATIC claims of the "potential"....reality far different. As with most liberal causes...and most door to door jobs. If you agree to "volunteer"...then why are yo bitching about not getting paid.

By everything you have posted, you appear to have no case to complain about not being paid for volunteer work....and when you didn't make "400 to 500" dollars per week, obviously there is a REASON for the sliding scale, which you failed to divulge.

Quit bitching when you got screwed for falling for the easy money scheme.

Krellin, I haven't even taken the job yet man, I'm just trying to find out if there is any validity to the bad mouthing I have seen. Calm down.

Not an amazing position but a potentially goo one and very influential, especially if you come before the adjudication in 7 minutes.

The Thread for People Who Want to Gunboat Good and Do Other Stuff Good Too
Would the gunboaters who frequent the 1000 D buy-in games please post here how they play gunboats so the rest of us may learn from you? Looking at a game isn't enough, we need to know what you're thinking when you see a board. What does the better player see that I miss?
