Because there are those who complain about a lack of Diplomacy Topics
One of the weakest parts of my game is that I don't go to other players with plans, but rather listen to plans, and adapt my strategy. Do you prefer to engage first, or listen to others? And how would you suggest I improve upon actively engaging with other players with ideas rather than waiting for them to come to me?

Muting is a curious feature
Apparently, you cannot mute a banned player. I discovered this when I tried muting bullshiot threads to make scouring the forums for an old thread easier. Curious indeed. By one's banning, they become like the mods: immutable.

Don't blame the free website for Tettleton's Chew
A free website is a website where a party may sign up for completely voluntary and free goods and/or services.
Any posting or trolling in the forums by a 3rd party is not a free website transaction. You muting a Tettleton's Chew after work is a free website transaction.

Guinness record for longest convoy?
I'm in a World Diplo game, and we are almost done. A 4 way draw in this very, very long game! I'm wondering if anyone knows the World's Record for longest convoy. We are trying one that will use 25 fleets! If that's the record, please let me know, ASAP, as I can ask us to change it to use 26 fleets.

Thanks!

cure for cancer? Blasphemy, madness and sparta all in one
Sensible answer: cancer is caused by too many diseases and conditions to be so easily curable. I think treatments will improve, cutting the death rate significantly, but our ability to mess with our own internal functions at the cellular level is not potent enough to be able to trace and destroy every last rapidly reproducing tumour cell

Did you know they invented an engine that runs on water? Oil companies stopped that one. Aids isn't a real disease. The real problem is the drugs they use to treat it. The moon landings are fake. 911 was a government conspiracy. The government caught some aliens in the 1940s. How do you think of of sudden the invented the bomb, computers and lasers all of a sudden. Aliens. A secret society has been controlling the world for hundreds of years. George Bush and Barack Obama are actually reptiles (just like in the Tv series V). Fluoride is put in the water because it makes us easier to brain wash. I drink filtered water, though. That's how I avoided being brain washed. Wage up sheeple!

A conspiracy is becomes less likely when the number of involved people increases.

Having said that, 911 is not likely to be conspiracy. However, the Osama Bin Laden, the man with the beard, is more likely. Obama discovered that. Instead of making it public, he organized his fake dead and got rid his fake body.

Note, I did not say that I believe that, just that it is more likely, because of the lesser amount of people involved.

Cancer is a generic term for a variety of diseases. There is no cure for cancer because there is no such thing as just "cancer". The *cures* would be for very specific types of *cancers*.

In addition to what Draugnar is saying, my sister is a cancer researcher, and I once worked for a big pharma company, so I have perhaps some information on this. The thing is, cancer is a generic term, yes, and is used to talk about a class of diseases. But also, even within the same specific kind of cancer, the same drug has different effects in different people. A drug that may cure cancer for one person will have dire negative effects in another person, even one suffering from the same kind of cancer. There's also specific times in the cancer cycle that it's more susceptible to certain treatments, and those timelines vary from person to person too.

While some people's cancer may be cured, a wholesale cure for all types of cancer at all points in cancer's timeline for all people is never going to happen.

'A conspiracy is becomes less likely when the number of involved people increases.

Having said that, 911 is not likely to be conspiracy. However, the Osama Bin Laden, the man with the beard, is more likely. '

The official line is that the world trade center attacks of 2001 were a conspiracy - several religious fundamentalist planned in secret to high-jack some planes and crash them into some buildings. This after the 1993 world trade center attacks which failed to destroy the buildings.

Multiple people planning in secret is by definition a conspiracy.

'While some people's cancer may be cured, a wholesale cure for all types of cancer at all points in cancer's timeline for all people is never going to happen.'

I went to a great talk last year by an immunologist, who among other things was asked (by a geneticist) how we could cure cancer given the variety of forms and differences - his response was that there are about 5/6 common pathways which most cancers follow, and that a better understanding of the immune system can help promote the body to cure itself - or to block those pathways.

This may be a minority view, but it sounds fairly valid to me.

As for the 'people are paid to keep this under wraps' - who in their right mind would spend money on something like that? What profit motive could be driving them??

oh, and then i look at speaker's link and it happens to be along the lines of an immunology based solution...

Hey Spyman why not add these to your list of zany conspiracies (source is Wiki, but good find more reliable citations if you insist):

''The Tuskegee syphilis experiment (also known as the Tuskegee syphilis study or Public Health Service syphilis study) was an infamous clinical study conducted between 1932 and 1972 in Tuskegee, Alabama by the U.S. Public Health Service to study the natural progression of untreated syphilis in poor, rural black men who thought they were receiving free health care from the U.S. government.''

or this one: Guatemala syphilis experiment
''The syphilis experiments in Guatemala were United States-led human experiments conducted in Guatemala from 1946 to 1948, during the administration of President Truman and President Juan José Arévalo with the cooperation of some Guatemalan health ministries and officials. Doctors infected soldiers, prostitutes, prisoners and mental patients with syphilis and other sexually transmitted diseases, without the informed consent of the subjects, and treated most subjects with antibiotics. This resulted in at least 83 deaths. In October 2010, the U.S. formally apologized to Guatemala for conducting these experiments.''

Only mentioned these two conspiracies because they are health related, could find more gems in this and other fields if you are interested.

The point I make is that to brand someone a conspiracy theorist will not on its own refute their arguments.
