"the “Today” segment took this approach to a key part of the dispatcher call: Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black. Here’s how the actual conversation went down: Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about. Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic? Zimmerman: He looks black.
I will not post anymore about this story, but did feel that, given the high tensions of everyone here regarding the story (and especially the race angle), this story was relevant to share.
And another station showed an EDITED version of the police intake video, editing out the portion where his HEAD WOUNDS were examined. Of course, the good libs on here ate that stuff up....and we now have near-race riot conditions in places, and a bounty an the head of an un-convicted man. THIS is why conservatives disdain the mainstream media. (And yes...FOX News shades the truth, too...)
We can all agree that the media is trying to incite race riots. It's scary how much power the media has over us. Before you know it, we'll be talking about the 2012 Sanford race riots and comparing them to the '92 LA riots. And the media is laughing all the way to the bank.
Why is any negative interaction between two people of different races ALWAYS perceived as racially motivated?
@YJ...you may hate Fox News, but to pretend it is any worse/more biased than anyone else is just showing your ignorance and YOUR bias. I have the balls, as a Conservative, to admit that they are biased -- but in all honesty, they DO have (a few) liberal-leaning commentators. Ever head of Wuan Willams - hardly the bastion of Consevative thinking...and he's not the only one on there.
I get it -- you hate conservatives...but at least be intellectually honest.
Best way to get an approximation of the truth is to examine a broad spectrum of media - liberal and conservative - and eliminate the contradictions. what you are left with may approximate the truth. Unfortunately, this is usually a blank page....
Same difference....once the bias is removed from both sides of the same story, you are usually left with nothing....or something that looks like this, "<Poltiican> spoke." And that's all the truth you can derive from the story.
Fortunately, I have a local paper that is fairly unbiased in its commentary, but they are limited in the amount of information that they can provide. Of course, I also get news a lot slower than internet news users.
I don't think he should be arrested. He wouldn't last ten minutes in county jail. But there should be a trial. No matter how you cut it, it won't end well:
1) Zimmerman is never arrested or put on trial. Race riots incited by the media are the result.
2) Zimmerman is arrested, placed in protective custody, and put on trial. He is acquitted. Race riots incited by the media are the result.
3) Zimmerman is arrested, placed in protective custody, and put on trial. He is convicted. He either spends the rest of his life in prison or is killed by his fellow inmates. An innocent man is killed or confined.
It is really impossible for us to know exactly what happened. My view of the situation is conditional on the truth of Zimmerman's story. If he really was *defending himself then he has a good case. On the other-hand if Zimmerman attacked Martin, and it was Martin who was defending himself, and then in the ensuing scuffle Zimmerman shot Martin then I think there I think Zimmerman is culpable.
What this case does highlight is the power of the media to persuade with the way they choose present the case. When first read about the Martin's death I was appalled and I thought Zimmerman was guilty as hell. But then later I heard some different facts and I thought Zimmerman might be innocent and was the victim of a witch-hunt over what really should be considered a tragic accident. But now recently I have read some counter-claims to Zimmerman's self-defense story saying that he had no bruises, and that "experts" say that it is Martin's voice that can be heard crying out for help, and not Zimmerman as was claimed.
We, who are not involved in the investigation, know nothing. I just hope that race issues do not continue to get in the way of ensuring justice.
(* I don't think Zimmerman's following Martin constitutes a good reason for Martin to attack Zimmerman (if that is what happened) and thus invalidating Zimmerman's claim to self-defense on the grounds that he provoked the attack, which is what some people seem to argue).
I agree with that, spyman. Following someone for a short distance isn't against the law. Attacking someone, regardless of whether or not that person has a gun, IS against the law, especially if that attack involves slamming the victim's head against the concrete and trying to take his gun.
You're also right about the media controlling public opinion. I doubt anyone non-involved person familiar with the case has read anything about it from a primary source.
I'm sure we all have interests besides Diplomacy. What are they? I've started making lamps out of glass bottles. You can see 2 finished ones here: https://plus.google.com/photos/112097194861235770883/albums/5726520958325469041?authkey=CNCVuouql4XN8gE What about the rest of you?
We tried this on vdip a while ago but It never really worked out, I still think its a cool concept though and was wondering if people here would like to try it. The idea is a classic game where you aren't allowed I lie. That doesn't mean you won't misdirect, or mislead people, but you can't outright lie.
My wife has reached full term and could go into labor any day now. So I figured I would go ahead and try and get sitters now while I have time (so that others don't have to wait later). The problem is I have no idea how the process works. What steps do I need to take?
Italian A Tyrolia to Munich has got to be one of the worst early game moves.
Unless this is carefully arranged bilaterally, I cannot possibly see any merit to this whatsoever. Yet I've been hit by it not once but multiple times recently, so clearly someone disagrees... so can someone tell me what the point of this move is?
http://the-diplomat.com/2012/04/04/signs-of-a-new-tiananmen-in-china/?all=true The title's misleadingly provocative, but this is an interesting analysis of how China's political system is facing real challenges.
There used to be a time when I used to keep refreshing my home page to see what was new on the forums. Now there's just so much trash talk and so many muted threads/people that my forum column on the home page is just empty. Screw you trolls. You ruined my webdip experience.
Hi forum! I'm in two games right now and will drop down to 0 pretty soon. I'd like to start a new game with those interested. It will be: WTA, non-anon (preferred), 2-day phases, 25 buy-in. Please post interest below. I'll set up the game next week (likely), and if we generate enough interest, maybe multiple games.
Since ti seems like there are some comic book fans on here I was wondering if anyone else was contemplating going to this: http://www.amctheatres.com/movie-news/2012/03/amc-theatres-presents-the-ultimate-marvel-marathon
Hey - bought the 360 for Christmas and love it...except I miss multiplayer gaming from my endless years of PC gaming. What good 360 games are there -- and would there be interest in settingupa league of some sort? (LOVE my NCAA football, if you need a beat down...)
