We can all agree that the media is trying to incite race riots. It's scary how much power the media has over us. Before you know it, we'll be talking about the 2012 Sanford race riots and comparing them to the '92 LA riots. And the media is laughing all the way to the bank.

Why is any negative interaction between two people of different races ALWAYS perceived as racially motivated?

And what about the scores of black people that get shot by other black people every day. Where's the outrage for them?

I have the balls, as a Conservative, to admit that they are biased -- but in all honesty, they DO have (a few) liberal-leaning commentators. Best way to get an approximation of the truth is to examine a broad spectrum of media - liberal and conservative - and eliminate the contradictions. what you are left with may approximate the truth. Unfortunately, this is usually a blank page....

Same difference....once the bias is removed from both sides of the same story, you are usually left with nothing....or something that looks like this, "<Poltiican> spoke." And that's all the truth you can derive from the story.

To true. What's even sadder is how many people don't care that we don't actually get much truth in our news.

Fortunately, I have a local paper that is fairly unbiased in its commentary, but they are limited in the amount of information that they can provide. Of course, I also get news a lot slower than internet news users.

I don't think he should be arrested. He wouldn't last ten minutes in county jail. But there should be a trial. No matter how you cut it, it won't end well:

1) Zimmerman is never arrested or put on trial. Race riots incited by the media are the result.

2) Zimmerman is arrested, placed in protective custody, and put on trial. He is acquitted. Race riots incited by the media are the result.

3) Zimmerman is arrested, placed in protective custody, and put on trial. He is convicted. He either spends the rest of his life in prison or is killed by his fellow inmates. An innocent man is killed or confined.

It is really impossible for us to know exactly what happened. My view of the situation is conditional on the truth of Zimmerman's story. If he really was *defending himself then he has a good case. On the other-hand if Zimmerman attacked Martin, and it was Martin who was defending himself, and then in the ensuing scuffle Zimmerman shot Martin then I think there I think Zimmerman is culpable.

What this case does highlight is the power of the media to persuade with the way they choose present the case. When first read about the Martin's death I was appalled and I thought Zimmerman was guilty as hell. But then later I heard some different facts and I thought Zimmerman might be innocent and was the victim of a witch-hunt over what really should be considered a tragic accident. But now recently I have read some counter-claims to Zimmerman's self-defense story saying that he had no bruises, and that "experts" say that it is Martin's voice that can be heard crying out for help, and not Zimmerman as was claimed.

We, who are not involved in the investigation, know nothing. I just hope that race issues do not continue to get in the way of ensuring justice.

(* I don't think Zimmerman's following Martin constitutes a good reason for Martin to attack Zimmerman (if that is what happened) and thus invalidating Zimmerman's claim to self-defense on the grounds that he provoked the attack, which is what some people seem to argue).

I agree with that, spyman. Following someone for a short distance isn't against the law. Attacking someone, regardless of whether or not that person has a gun, IS against the law, especially if that attack involves slamming the victim's head against the concrete and trying to take his gun.

You're also right about the media controlling public opinion. I doubt anyone non-involved person familiar with the case has read anything about it from a primary source.
