This is less about me leaving than sharing something that happened in real life that sharing to others in real life would just be a bummer. Here, I don't care if y'all are bummed. It just happens to be a perfect topic for a last thread

KI has the Beast, once the world's tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster and *still* the longest wooden coaster in the world. Son of Beast was a record breaker in it's day but it has had so much trouble and they ended up removing the loop in it. It's hasn't been open since mid 2009. Just as well, it *really* beat its riders up. We also have Invertigo (formerly Face/Off), a suspended forward the backward coaster with an inversion. Also a cool fast suspended coaster that used ot be called top gun, and indoor coaster similar to Disney world's space mountain, and the Racer - credited with revivng the coaster and ushering in the coaster renaissance. It's the coaster that appeared on The Brady Bunch episode.

I'll pass on that info Draug and thank you for it. I may have to pony up and ride some of the more intense ones as part of the compromise.

Most of the intense ones are steel and relatively smooth. The Beast will beat you up some, being wooden, especially the back car (it tends ot whip you around) but is still fun. Son of Beast was too rough but my understanding is it won't be open this year either. My favorite is Flight of Fear (the indoor coaster formerly called Twilight Zone). It literally "launches" you. No hill climb, just damn near instant acceleration (0-60 in under 4 seconds, faster than a stock 2012 Corvette and way faster than my '93 Vette). It is just fun!
Celticfox (100 D(B))
27 Mar 12 UTC
Draugner Flight of Fear sounds more like Rock n Roller Coaster then Space Mountain. KI is definitely a possibility since he's actually looking it over and grilling me on which rides I'd go on (I'm a notorious chicken when it comes to roller coasters).
Draugnar (0 DX)
27 Mar 12 UTC
The key difference is the indoor enclosure is smaller and Space Mountain was still a typical hilldrop coaster where as FoF is hydraulically launched.

Lots of park info as well as http://www.visitkingsisland.com/ which is KI's official site.

@Draugner I know all about the Disney rides. Believe me it's like Rock n Roller Coaster. We've already been looking at those sites. Believe me there's interest, btu we still need to number crunch. I know if it's going to be to expensive he'll say no.

Oh, and while there (or at least in Cincinnati) you must (*must*) have Skyline Chili, LaRosa's Pizza, and Graeter's Ice Cream. And you can have a Cinnabon too if you feel the need. All of them are at the park, but the first three are Cincinnati original's only to be found within about a 50 mile radius from downtown.

27 Mar 12 UTC
You might check out hotels around KI. they normally have some stay and play deals and you could come down to the F2F while he (and the kids?) do KI. It's just 30 minutes or so straight down I-71 to downtown.

Looking at the webDip map, there are quite a few people between Chicago and Cinci, if picking up people for gas money helps you out at all.

Well no guarantee atm. If possible I want to wait until after we do our wedding reception (long story, had to have it way after the wedding) in May. We'll have a better idea of how much extra we'll have after that.
Celticfox (100 D(B))
27 Mar 12 UTC
@Abge That may help but my husband added on a compromise kinda thing where if we go then he wants to do a theme park too (either Cedar Point or King's Island it's looking like). So picking up people and such could be a little messy.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

@CF

True; they'd need to find some way back.

Are we invited to the reception? : )
Celticfox (100 D(B))
27 Mar 12 UTC
@Abge It's a small family thing in Minnesota. Believe me it's not something elaborate. We are paying for it all ourselves so we're just being careful.

*must* have skyline chili isn't what I'd say. Cincinnatians love it. Transplants (like myself)... well, it tastes like crap.

27 Mar 12 UTC
Well you two should hammer out what musts people should have while there. You will have to recommend food places for the F2F. Oh and Draug no children here so I'd have to accompany him. Besides I want him to watch and maybe participate if we go.
Draugnar (0 DX)
27 Mar 12 UTC
Well, you can make it work with the whole week. Heck, with the right detour, you could do both parks.

And OK, so maybe just *try* Sjyline. A cheese coney or share a 3, 4, or 5 way and see if you like it. But you *gotta* have LaRosa's and Graeter's. Don't you agree, fortknox?

Who designed the "Diplomacy deadline add-on"? It doesn't work.
No, it didn't bing when the deadline arrived. I have a suspicion that it's designed to subtly change my orders instead.
