Can a mod force me CD?
to be honest i'd like a force-cd on all the games i'm currently playing. but if not that, at least this one gameID=81266&msgCountryID=0
i just signed up to take over, but i'm an idiot i thought it was a live game for some reason. so that was an oversight on my part.
even if i were still signing up for non-live games they are not even speaking english there. can i get a cd?

huh

well, not sure why you think you should get a survive since you were clearly eliminated, but I agree you shouldn't have gotten a resign.

Did you enter the final hold order?
semck83 (229 D(B))
19 Feb 12 UTC
Actually, abge, correct me if I'm wrong, but somebody who has a unit left at the end does typically get a survive on webdip, even if he has no SCs left.

huh This is clearly wrong.

I'll make sure Kestas is aware of the problem.

;) Cool! & Say HI ! :))
kestasjk (99 DMod(P))
19 Feb 12 UTC
Thanks for pointing this out abge & Dharma. Here is the code behind the decision:
switch($Member->missedPhases)
{
case 1:
/*
* Players can be set to civil disorder with only one missed
* phase if it looks like they're about to be defeated
*/
if( 1 < $Member->supplyCenterNo or 1 < $Member->unitNo )
break;
case 2:
$left=true;
$Member->setLeft();
}

So when a player has only one unit and SC left the system is less patient with missed turns. If someone is on the way out and just missed a turn it's considered better to not force other players to wait around a whole phase for that last order that may not come and probably won't matter much

I'll manually set it back to Survived in this case, but I think the logic is reasonable
Draugnar (0 DX)
19 Feb 12 UTC
But Kestas, your code triggers if they have zero SCs or zero units left as well. It triggers anytime SCs and units are both less than 2. I would add another if with a break like:

if( 0 == $Member->supplyCenterNo or 0 == $Member->unitNo)
break;

Because if they have no units on a movement phase, your current logic would put them in civil disorder, which is bogus.

This is much like the autodisband you refuse to implement. Interesting that you automatically CD someone even thought they may have just missed the one phase, potentially pissing them off, but you won't autodisband a player's last unit(s).
kestasjk (99 DMod(P))
19 Feb 12 UTC
Civil disorders are processed first, then defeats. This way people who miss turns immediately before defeat still get a CD recorded against them before being set to defeated

Re: auto-disbanding: The gamemaster does order initialization & processing, the client does order generation, and the board does order validation and submission.

Auto disbanding would involve all of these (at least for retreats phase); long story short it's not trivial to do in a tidy and variant-friendly way, so it's not at the top of the todo list right now. (It's localization support for at least the next couple of months)
Dharmaton (2398 D)
19 Feb 12 UTC
"who miss turnS" ... keyword here. I missed 1/2 a turn... not plural ;)
Draugnar (0 DX)
19 Feb 12 UTC
So now it comes out... Autodibanding isn't implemented *not* because Kestas doesn't want the mods to deal with the complaints, as has been stated in the past by him. But because it's too hard. Fair enough. :-)

I must, however, say localization... I feel sorry for you, my friend. It's a pain in the ass to make certain every bit of text looks up it's language-specific version and some languages go read right to left which totally screws up the orientation of the page. Good luck with that, Kestas. I feel for you. I really do.

>"who miss turnS" ... keyword here
I meant phase, not turn, my mistake ;p

>Autodibanding isn't implemented *not* because Kestas doesn't want the mods to deal with the complaints, as has been stated in the past by him.
Not sure where you got that from.. First hit in my profile reply list for "retreat" or "disband" (from a shamefully long time ago):
> 8. Other - No-retreat=disband
> I understand this request, it is old as the hills, but for technical reasons it's really
> pretty tricky to think how it would actually be done (especially across all variants).

Don't know what complaints mods would have to deal with anyway, maybe you're thinking of something else

>I feel for you. I really do.
Thankfully we're not targeting right to left languages, at least initially. Just European-ish ones which will hopefully not cause too much grief :)

Draug, in the past conversations that I've read, perhaps I've missed some, I've only heard the issue with a player not understanding what happened on an auto-disband listed as a con amongst various pros and cons to adding this functionality. I've not seen it listed as a con that was so overwhelmingly bad that the functionality should not be added. The discussions on the dev forum at least focused more on the difficulty of the task.
Draugnar (0 DX)
19 Feb 12 UTC
I'm just picking on Kestas, hence the smiley at the end. It was discussed once and the concern came up that a phase progressing and a player being eliminated without them doing the final disband might be confusing and result in the mods having to deal with complaints. But I don't recall who said it.
Troodonte (3379 D)

Someone explain me what the issue about auto-disbanding because I haven't understand it?
Dharmaton (2398 D)
19 Feb 12 UTC
What's really at issue here is the fact that the game ends AS SOON as a player >= 18 D. or game is drawn.... AND that if player(s) still have a unit on the Map they are considered to have Survived. :))
Troodonte (3379 D)
19 Feb 12 UTC
Really...is that an important issue... to have a survived in your record even though the game ended and you had ZERO sc's?
As to the resigned thing...I think you are right.
Dharmaton (2398 D)
20 Feb 12 UTC
Well,... how we conclude games, and how we are rated for them, does have a certain importance ;)
Alderian (2425 D(S))
20 Feb 12 UTC
@Troodonte, there are a number of issues.

Getting a survive with 0 SCs is pretty minor amongst the various issues.

Another issue is when there is a retreat phase and the only players who have retreat orders have no where to retreat to. It wastes time waiting for the player to enter the only possible order of disband.

Taking that a bit further, you have times when a losing player doesn't bother putting in their disband retreat order or their disband of their last units in the build/disband phase but everyone else has finalized. The remaining players are all stuck waiting for someone that is as good as gone.

But, the biggest issue, IMHO, is that the game will end before the retreat phase even if someone could retreat into a supply center. For a PPSC game this could affect the points awarded if a player missed retreating into someone else's center. For both PPSC and WTA it can affect things if someone could have retreated to one of the winner's centers.

The simple fix is to always go to the retreat phase before ending the game. And even that isn't exactly simple. Right now the check for 18 centers is done as part of the adjudication of the fall phase. Since the retreat phase may or may not happen, and even the build/disband phase might not happen if the winner has no open home centers, it has to go in some in-between spot after retreat phase and before the build/disband or spring phases.

And the downside is having a retreat phase when it doesn't have an effect on the game. It would be better if it could determine if the retreat phase could have an effect on the outcome and if not, skip it is someone is at 18+ centers.

A common theme amongst these issues is adding logic that can determine what could happen to decide what is really needed. Per Kestas, implementing this stuff won't be simple, and I think we can all take his word on that. But we can still dig into it and see what we can do.

I got this (creepy) Message:

" Your empire has gone inactive, and fallen into civil disorder. It can now be taken over by anyone, unless you take it back! "

Makes no sense...

Finding out the identity of Players who "Leave" and are then replaced
Having just finished an Anon game, we had a player who "Left". A new player then joins. A number of questions arise:
1. Is GR calculated on the original player or the new player. Must be the original player, otherwise this a way to manage the rankings.
2. But if this information is readily available, is there any way to find out who the original player was?

after someone posted a message using my name as a noun, i decided to see what bolshoi means in english. unfortunately through google and wikipedia i learned that bolshoi in english typically means an opera, ballet, drama theatre and an 80's group from london. does this information raise concerns about my sexuality. and if so should i create a new account?
