Suggested Map
I'd like to suggest a map to add as an alternative to the Classic Diplomacy, the Ancient Mediterranean, or the Global map. I found it the same place the other two were found. It's called "Canton Diplomacy", and it takes place in Asia.

In an anonymous, no chat, wta game Austria and Italy coordinated all of their moves. Also 2 of the 7 teams didn't turn up. Is it possible to register as 4 players. I'm hazarding a guess that all 4 of the players are one and the same person. Any thoughts from any forum members, nobody likes cheats, it spoils the games and devalues the website. Is this a common occurrence?

Turkey. Whooo. Haven't played Turkey in a while. I hope Italy will go west more than anything else.

S01: Well, Italy seems to be friendly towards Austria. That's not good for me. AR bounced in Gal and R moved to Ukr. I hope I don't get squeezed out too quickly.
I guess I will gamble and move to Greece. It will probably bounce either Austria or Italy out.
F01: Interesting. I got Gre and Bla. R seems to want to fight Austria. That's good for me, but AI are friendly. I guess I will build a fleet, but do I move to Aeg or Emed. Debated for about a day and a half and came to the conclusion it would be 50-50 because who knows how experienced Italy is at Lepanto.
England gets Bel (supported in by France) and Norway, and Russia decides to build a fleet in StP. I don't have a good feeling about R at this point; E is likely to go after his sorry tail and an army there would be a hell of a lot more useful and less aggressive than a fleet. There seems to be a lot happening in the west already. My guess is that one of them would come out to be a big gun.

S02: Well, I double supported myself into Bulg but guessed wrong about Aeg/Emed. A moved to Alb and things are not looking good for me. France moved into a smart defensive position that would allow him to fight either E or I. Russia is going to get whooped... At least he tried to move into Gal. That will slow A down.
F02: Well, I lost Gre but France moved on Italy, so some of pressure is off. I guess I'll build a fleet in Ank, move to Bla to defend Bulg. I should be able to survive for a while.

S03: Yes, Italy moved out of Aeg to Ion. I should be able to survive for a while... G finally took Bel. Good for him; that should slow E down a bit, but man, R is dead up north.
F03: I'm going to defend Bulgaria with my life until I can get into Emed with my other fleet. From there I can safely but slowly move out. France made a good move against Italy here, correctly guessing that Nap and Rome would try to self-bounce. Russia was dead up north. EFG all got a build. Somebody was about to run into serious trouble among those three. Russia decided destroy his fleet in GoB and threw everything against A. I wasn't sure how much I liked that.

S04: I got into Emed. Yay, survival achieved. A went to work against F but lost Bud in the process; he should have let Serb def Bud instead of attacking Rum. Italy was probably goner since F got into Tunis... That was all fairly exciting, but nothing compared to the moves that England pulled. I figured that E was going to be the front runner the rest of the game. Looked like G was the odd man out.
F04: I debated where to take Greece or not and felt that if I didn't take Greece, I wouldn't grow at all, so I did. Lucky for me Austria supported into it to show his friendship, and now I have Gre and Ion. I also needed to decide to either help R or A and I felt that the destruction of GoB was unwise on R's part. He got the ball rolling on England's rise to preminence. R could have destroy F Sevas and I would have done everything possible to help him against A and to survive, but alas that was not to be. That's why I tap Rum so that A can take back Bud.
Austria got Venice, and France made a stupid move. He should have realized Tyrr was going to attack Rome w/ Nap supporting and moved Rome to Tyrr w/ Tunis supporting while GoL tapped Tyrr. And oh, I'm scared of England's efficiency!
Since I helped A against R, I decided to build an army in Ank to move against R. F built fleet in Brest, that should slow E down and I should be able to defend against the French incursion.

06: I moved against R, A moved against I, F got EC, G died (sorry about that G; not your fault).

07: France. What the hell? You don't convoy out of Wales you fool. England will run rampant. G is dead and you move out of Wales??? Did you think England was going to pet you and give you a strong second in the highest point pot gunboat game?
About me and A, if A wanted Bla to move to Sevas, which I tried and he supported with Rum, then he needed to use Gal to support Ukr to War and not tap War with Gal.

08: This was the first of many times where I felt rage against the machine, hummm, the game. France, what the hell? I think this was his way of making E really really powerful and to try to grab a piece of something to get into the eventual draw; that was the best thing I could think of France at the moment. But this was a critical moment here for me. I decided that if I got a chance to kill France and not lose this game, I would do it. Same for Russia.

09-10: Fight R, E and get into stalemate positions.

S11: Austria, what the hell? I can't backstab you without risking England getting the solo, and I build as far away from you as possible. It's not possible, and we need to establish the stalemate line against England and to kick France out for the three way. Tri to Vie, Serbia to Bud? Do you not know the stalemate line? Sil to Boh, then Sevas def Mos, Ukr and Gal def War, and Tyr def Boh, which would use 7 units. Learn the damn stalemate lines.
F11: We don't need Sil you fool, but whatever. We got Mars and Spain. A built in Tri. Seems smart, right? Tyr to Pie, Tri to Tyr and France will die in 1912 since we have the statemate lines in the west, which by the way, Austria, is Pied def Mars, Mars and GoL def Spain, Nafr def West Med, and I would have supported England into Por willingly, but we needed Pied to ensure the stalemate line!

1912-1915 The Poop Years for the sensitive ears

S12: You moved out of Sil but all the way to Rum. Fine. You are paranoid and don't trust me. Fair enough, but the Tyr to Pied??? You don't leave Tyr at this point you freaking moron. I can't support England into Por if you don't maintain the stalemate lines. Learn them!!!! And did you think England was going to sit still while you seemingly act stupid?
F12: What the hell, Austria??? Pied to Tyr instead of Venice to Tyr? We don't have the stalemate lines, and I am not going to support E into Por until you demonstrate some semblance of understanding the stalemate lines.

F13: What the hell? You took Spain, Austria? If you think I was being stubborn of trying to move into Por, it's because you moved erratically without apparent reasons. I can't stab you without England winning.

I took off the draw a bunch of times to show that I want to draw but not until France is gone and we have ensure stalemate.

This game should have ended in 1912, not 1916. I will write up personal messages below.

Italy, sorry you got cut early on. You played the best you could given the circumstances. I would play with you again, Babak. This was my third gunboat game with you by the way.

Germany, same thing for you. Russia's weak play up north was instrumental to your downfall. See you in another game.

Russia, you should have move up north and kept England out better. You did not need that F in Sevas as much as an army in Liv.

England, well play man, well play. It would be my pleasure to play with you again.

France, you deserved to get cut from the drawn. Moving out of Wales and into GoL, Wmed instead of to NAO and MAO was not excusable. Poor play by you.

Austria, you made me rage so hard. Do you know the stalemate lines or not? Learn the damn stalemate lines and learn how to count to 18. I can't backstab you without giving England the win, and I was your ally through and through since 1905. If England had won or France got kept in the game, it would have been your fault. You suck, no offense. Wouldn't knowingly play with you again in gunboat.

@zultar:
I don't think, with England's 3 builds, that attacking England was feasible at all. I was more concerned that you might just wipe me out from behind while I was busy with England. I should have stabbed a turn or two sooner, e.g. when I had moved Pic, Bur, EC.
I had to pull away from England because you were in Tys/Ion already; I cannot defend from your fleets in the south, and I hoped England would realize that I wanted to make up with him and that I would be useful in cracking your fleets before you made it to the stalemate.

Yes, my choice of attack against Italy was foolish too.

I'd like to hear from you about how I could have done Spring 1907 better. I know that I could have forced London, but I would be forced out again in Fall 1907. I had wanted to support Germany in order to delay England's builds but Germany decided to go all-out against me so England got his 3 builds.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))

@Gobble, 1904: Rome to Tyrr w/ Tunis supporting would have given you Tun and Rome in the same year.
1907: Wales to York, Bel to North Sea w/ EC supporting, Bur to Ruhr, Mun to Kiel (useless but who knows), Pied to Tyr as you did. Worse come to worse, you retreat to MAO and then move to NAO. A single rogue fleet in the north would have made life hard for England. You don't know how AIT would play it out if you had left and fight E instead. Moving away from Bur, Brest, and MAO was just plain unacceptable.

Germany moved against you for a SINGLE SEASON in 1904. Then he backed away, rightfully so, to defend his home SCs.
I can post an EOG later. For now, join the second game in the series:

not much to add. I still suck at Gunboat games and cant seem to do well unless I'm France or Russia. I have a lot to learn.

I saw that French manouver but decided to go with the 'safer' bounce. my own fault. Had I done what I initially intended, I could have survived a bit longer until France had to turn to face England. but oh well.

Good game guys, sorry I did not have much of an impact on this game. I think I'm going to stay away from Gunboats for a while, all i'm doing is losing points and GR. This is like my 5th or 6th gunboat loss in a row.

I'm happy to play in a new 1000 point gunboat game
Wow, zultar, fascinating. When I agreed to write an EOG earlier today I did not expect I would be trying to live up to that. Anyway, my briefer version:

The game began and I was England. I honestly quite despise playing England, especially in gunboat games. I am not sure what it is but something about it I just can't get right. I usually find that France just attacks and I lose. Thus, I opened to the channel. this is rare for me and the outcome was surprising. It resulted in France showing support and ultimately becoming a great ally. This was such good news.

From there and considering the G/R openings I knew I had my ally. I played what I believe to be somewhat craftily in Scandinavia. I let Russia take NOR and SWE intentionally for a spring move so I could get better position and keep my same units. This worked wonders and I really dug in up there. I tried to show peace to Germany for the interim.

Something else strange happened - despite me leaving BEL for NOR nobody took the centre from me and I still was even in the year. I think this was critical to my game.

From there things were easy. I bore down on to Germany like England can do so easily. I had a stabby France mvoe on the channel but I figured he was being precautionary so I trusted him with LON and it paid off. Next year he stabbed for real and took the island. I made big gains in Germany so I was confifdent I could keep defending. I actually figured we'd get sucked inot a big fight and we would both eventually draw.

For some reason he retreated. This only gave me the opportunity to mess him up even more. I had great visions of soloing this game.

I managed to break through to SIL before the southern line was assembled. I thought I had to chance to WAR/MOS for some really good position. Unfortunately, and this is where I disagree with zultar a bit, it seemed like A and T had already worked out the line. I had no shot at WAR and they were a turn away from MOS as was I. At this point I made the determination to play to draw.

I knew 3way was feasible so I went for that. I could not understand why it took so long for them to support me to POR. I did not want Turkey there because I thought he actually still had a solo shot. Austria was playing all kinds of out of position and I did not want T in POR because that often becomes a deal breaker. Austria took SPA and I figured it was because he would want to support me. He also didn't.

As I began to be tired of waiting it out I made a deal with myself that I draw when the autumn of 1916 (whatever the last year was) finished. Luckily for everyone France gets defeated and we all share 2333 D each.

Fun game, thanks everyone.

@zultar, true. At that time I had not thought of moving to Yorkshire, that is something I had missed. I felt I needed a build though, and it wasn't going to come from nowhere. I still think the biggest mistake was not stabbing earlier.
Gobbledydook (1389 D(B))
20 Jan 12 UTC
Good game everyone, and I see why I lost now, I failed to think things through to their conclusions.
About the Germany part, I was talking about when England moved to Kiel and I tried to support Germany there. The second time. And he ignored that and decided to die instead.
Mujus (1495 D(B))

Zultar and Lando are both right about my erratic play. I confessed to that in another thread and blamed both being sick and having to teach my first week back at school after the break. I kept shaking my head each time I saw the results, asking "Why did I do that?" But Zultar is wrong that I should automatically extend trust in gunboat. Even in a high-stakes game, there are players, action junkies, who need to attack, and when they get stalemated for a bit they go for the easy points. I was worried that England might pull back further at any time, giving an optimistic Turkey his green light to hit me, and with his much more secure position, I wouldn't have had a chance.

I enjoyed the game, and Zultar, I'd be glad to play you again when we're both more clear-headed. Regular (= non/gunboat) would be even better.

And I hope you get some sleep and placate your wife. ;-)

Well. I played a terrible game, and Lando played really well. I struggle to find and ally. Allying with England on a gunboat isn´t usually a good idea, but France and Russia seems so erratic on the game that I decided to give England a chance and moved after France, England stabbed at the same turn and I know I was dead.

I tried to move back and show France I will be fighting England but France took my miove personally and just decide to jump on me. I know England will first kill me and next kill France and this is what happended.

Good played Lando, Mujus and zultar. And I missed my spot at the second one...

I think it would be a really great feature to be able to run a tactical simulation - set up the board however you want, enter moves for multiple countries and see them adjudicated. Basically to have the option of playing against yourself on your own board. I think it would be really useful, both for new players getting the hang of basic tactics and for veterans who want to see how various strategies play out over multiple rounds. What say you, webDiplomacy?
