The Greatest Threat To Us All
The greatest danger to us all is the fear of failure.
It's that simple. Without failure to identify the errors individuals and society make total disaster becomes a real possibility.
Embrace failure because failure alone tells us where the edge of the cliff lies

Point Loaning has been discontinued
I'm not exactly sure how this policy started, but the mods will no longer be transferring points between players. If you need points to play in a tournament, we will still give them to you. It's just too much of a hassle and completely undermines the point system.

eBooks and Christmas
So, as you may know, I'm a big proponent of eBooks. However, about half the gifts I'm giving this year are still traditional books. This is partly because a lot of people still don't have ereaders, but partly because giving ebooks seems wicked lame. In fact, for those I know have ereaders, I've avoided giving them books in either form.

Putin, I think there's a point in life you need to ask yourself "Is this REALLY important?" and right now is that moment for you.
Because the democrats were speaking vile socialist things that no person should hear, the repugs cut of the cspan cameras in order to protect families from the dangerous filth they were speaking as it was vulgar in nature purely because it was marxist.

There, I spun it, and I'm not even a rePUG.
killer135 (100 D)
22 Dec 11 UTC
I am not a breed of dog. sorry. I don't know any Republican pugs out there, but you could ask the one from the Doritos Super Bowl commercial about the whole situation.
If I was a repug, here's how I would respond: "Bark, bark bark, bark bark BARK bark"
um, actually it is kind of important,
Killer, how o you respond to using the reigns of the nonpartisan C-Span toward very partisan ends?
Putin33 (111 D)
22 Dec 11 UTC
Nah, unemployment benefits and tax hikes on the middle class are of no concern to Republicans.

The only spin here is in the headline. The session had been adjourned and a Democrat took advantage of an open microphone to launch into his own political diatribe. The microphones were subsequently turned off. Same feature we have on this forum ;-)

I just think it's funny that these clowns keep saying they're "here to work" and when an up or down vote is called for, they shut off the cameras and walk out. They have opposed the tax cut for a year now and they want to play games by hiding in conference so they don't have to be accountable to the public.
I hate Congress. Both sides, though the Democrat side is more tolerable....they still did shit when they were in charge. Partisanship has gotten out of hand.

So I say take the money out of politics or suspend Congress....either one would do, though if we were to suspend Congress, I would ask that Biden step down and Boehner take his spot....just for fairness sake.
how about have Julius Caesar take both their places.

What part of "session adjourned" don't you get? Once the gavel bangs, there is nothing left and some Dummycrat deciding he want to speak in violation of Robert's Rules is not something anyone is obligated to show. The session was done, the official show was over, so they turned off the cameras and the mics. Big deal.

I mean seriously, watch the video. "According to [blah blah blah], the session stands adjourned." then the Dummycrats start hollering "Mr. Speaker." Did the Dummycrat think to bring it up *before* the session was adjorned? Clearly not. So don't blame the Republicans for the Dummycrats not knowing Robert's Rules of Order.

@goldfinger - Once upon a time, the President was the winner and the VP the guy who came in second place. I like that idea as it brings balance to the White House.
This really has to be a troll putin, it looks like the democrats waited until the session was adjourned before bringing it up intentionally to make repugs look bad.
Putin33 (111 D)
22 Dec 11 UTC
And threats of assassination.

Right, because they fully intended to have a 1 minute session in which all that was done was a prayer & the pledge of allegiance. No, they adjourned right as Hoyer was about to raise a point.
Putin33 (111 D)
22 Dec 11 UTC
What do you mean waited? The session was a minute and a half long!
Putin33 (111 D)
22 Dec 11 UTC
I mean Hoyer is a milquetoast Democrat, he doesn't ever get like this. Enough is enough.

Even the WSJ journal is slamming the Republicans over this.

He was asking to be recognized before the gavel bangs, it can be clearly heard.

@Putin - Did you think no one would read the article? Nothing in that article mentions the session in question. Not once, dude. Epic fucking failure.

And as far as the tax cut goes, two months isn't enough time to code and test it the return and two weeks isn't enough time to code and test the new cap that was proposed for that 2 months. This "plan" of President Osama and the Dummycrats was ill-concieved and anyhone int eh software development business (like myself and not you) could tell you that it is an impossibility to implement.
Draugnar (0 DX)
22 Dec 11 UTC
@SD - Not in the video I saw in the link provided by Putin. The first words uttered by a Dummycrat are "Mr. Speaker" *after* the Speaker says "adjourned".
Putin33 (111 D)
22 Dec 11 UTC
I have no idea what you're talking about. Watch the video. The session begins & ends in a minute or so. All they do is say the pledge & and a prayer.
All the two months is an extension of what is already currently the tax rate. I fail to see how this is not enough time for whatever the hell you're talking about, since it is already the law.

This supposedly "ill-inconceived" plan was passed by nearly the entire Senate. You are way out on the fringes on this one Draugnar.
killer135 (100 D)
22 Dec 11 UTC
I've decided to +1 every draugnar post I see in this thread. if only there was a -1 for Putin.
Draugnar (0 DX)
22 Dec 11 UTC
No, the extension changes the salary cap. I know cause I've been tasked with prepping to handle it should it get passed. Try again with someone not in the business. And the video on that link is not the whole session. It starts with the Speaker saying "Pursuant to..." In short, it starts with the adjournment.
Putin33 (111 D)
22 Dec 11 UTC
Ok here's the full video, evidently thinkprogress didn't give the whole thing.

Draugnar (0 DX)

While it was obviously a "in and out" do nothing waste of a session and I think the Republicans stunk for pulling that, I still don't hear anyone trying to say anything before he says adjourned. That said, it was probably because he was so quick they couldn't get to the mic in that short a time.

But I stand by may statement that the tax extension for two months is a bad idea. The issues from the software house point of view are extreme.

SacredDigits (102 D)
22 Dec 11 UTC
Hm, I actually watched the C-Span full video and...am forced to side with the idea that this is a troll.

Watch the captions, during the prayer one comes up that states this is to be a "Pro Forma Session - No Legislative Business." Pro Forma sessions are done for a variety of reasons, including fulfilling obligations to meet x amount of times, and don't always have the full complement of representatives because nobody expects anything significant to go down. The Dems chose a session that they knew they wouldn't be able to call a vote in.
SacredDigits (102 D)
22 Dec 11 UTC
From wikipedia:

"In the United States federal government, either house of the United States Congress (the United States House of Representatives or the United States Senate) can hold a pro forma session at which no formal business is expected to be conducted.[4] This is usually to fulfill the obligation under the Constitution "that neither chamber can adjourn for more than three days without the consent of the other."[5] Pro forma sessions can also be used to prevent the President from making recess appointments, pocket-vetoing bills, or calling the Congress into special session."

It was known this would be a Pro Forma session, it's dirty pool to try to force a vote in such a session. Heck, the actual Speaker wasn't even there.
Putin33 (111 D)
22 Dec 11 UTC
Whatever, this was the only way to hold the Repugs feet to the fire on their obstructionism.
SacredDigits (102 D)
22 Dec 11 UTC
It was a well-executed troll, because it makes the GOP (who I'm no fan of) look particularly douchey to someone who doesn't realize what the meeting was intended to be or someone who doesn't understand the intricacies of the political process. But they knew going in that this of all sessions was one that the vote absolutely wouldn't be allowed at. The race to the finish was no surprise, that was more or less the agenda that everyone knew going in.
I want to be a political troll now, that was pretty funny.
