Disturbing trend
I'm playing in a few anon games (well, more than a few), and I've noticed that the game has changed over the years. It got better for a long time, then towards the end if this year, something has happened that has taken some fun away.

What should I watch tonight?
I'm bored and looking for a movie to watch before I head to sleep. Nothing too long. Any suggestions?
largeham (149 D)

If you're getting high, Max Payne. If you want to watch a comedy, Max Payne. Actually, just watch Max Payne.

"If you're getting high"
That's the issue. Trying to find something to watch sober. I was downloading The Warriors but figured that I'd leave that for another (more inebriated) night.

I'm a little skeptical of Max Payne to say the least...

Watch Dark City. Less than 2 hours and simply a great flick.
Yonni (136 D(S))
05 Dec 11 UTC
Alright. Dark City it is.
Hannah and Her Sisters is downloading. Once it's done I'll start Dark City.

Thanks, Draugnar.

Well, I should hold my thanks until I watch it I guess.

Burn After Reading if you are in a comedy mood

If you are in a holiday mood, Patrick Stewart's version of A Christmas Carol is always good.

I will second all of Geo's suggestions.

Hannah and Her Sisters is one of Woody Allen's best. If you are interested in some recent Woody Allen then I recommend his latest, "Midnight in Paris", with Owen Wilson playing the Woody Allen character. It's a gem of a film, reminiscent of the Purple Rose of Cairo and a real return to form.
If you like Coen Brothers, on the other hand, may I suggest "A Serious Man". Just as they did their take on Odyssey with Oh Brother Where Art Thou, this film is sort of their take on the Book of Job. Dark, funny, clever, classic Coen Brothers.
One more suggestion: I Love You Phillip Morris. Jim Carrey at his best. While it is an over the top comedy, it is more of a thinking man's film than Ace Ventura, and perhaps more in the line of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, with a deeper almost philosophical message.
Draugnar (0 DX)
05 Dec 11 UTC
My favorite Woody Allen is Sleeper. For Jim Carrey, either The Truman Show or Bruce Almighty is good. For the Coen brother's, The Big Lebowski and Fargo are where it's at.
spyman (424 D(G))

Sleeper is a great film. I love the way in the future, fatty, sugary, and salty foods are considered health foods.
largeham (149 D)

No no, Max Payne is still funny even when sober. And by funny I mean extremely terrible.

I agree with Tom, Burn After Reading is quite good.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
05 Dec 11 UTC
Draug: Anything by the Coen brothers is gold. So I agree. Though I don't know about your other suggestions, as I despise Jim Carey...
Geofram (130 D(B))
05 Dec 11 UTC
Am I the only one that disagrees? Coen brothers are just OK. Oh Brother is the only one I'd absolutely recommend.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
05 Dec 11 UTC
Well, Geo just made Tom Bombadil's naughty list.
spyman (424 D(G))
05 Dec 11 UTC
Draug I agree Fargo is the Coens best film.
Tom lots of people hate Jim Carrey. I think he is a genius.
He was given some advice early in his career, I forget who by but either a director or another actor "Jim, less is more". Clearly he took no notice.
semck83 (229 D(B))
05 Dec 11 UTC
I love all the Coens' movies, but I think No Country is the best.
I'd recommend "Red" - Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich are retired Black-Ops agents who suddenly find themselves being hunted by their own side because they know too much...
Draugnar (0 DX)
05 Dec 11 UTC
@Speaker - I've yet to see that but absolutely want to. Have you seen The Expendables? Great fun along the same lines, but with all action heroes (Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, and others), not classic actors like Mirren, Freeman, and Malkovich (and to a degree Willis). But still tons of fun.
@Draugnar:I have "The Expendables" on my "must see" list, but have yet to see it. I also want to see "Source Code" and "Unstoppable".
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
05 Dec 11 UTC
Unstoppable was great.

The Expendables was miserable. Horrible plot, terrible acting, and despite having every action hero from the last 25 years, it didn't have nearly enough action to keep the movie interesting. I actually fell asleep at one point in the theater.
Geofram (130 D(B))
05 Dec 11 UTC
Completely agree with agbe. Expendables murdered my desire for action for months. The A-team just popped into my head, was a good recent action movie I think.

A useful tool: www.nanocrowd.com
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))

Source Code was underwhelming imo. Not as smart as it thinks it is, nor as entertaining.
@Geofram - Re:www.nanocrowd.com - Thanks. Didn't know it existed. Bookmarked it now.

Razr vs. iPhone
So, I'm going to buy my first smartphone soon. I think I've narrowed it down to the Razr or the iPhone. The razr's hardware really trumps the iPhone but the iPhone is, well, the iPhone. Any thoughts or suggestions?

What is the mods general opinion on the following subject?
One of our mods <*cough*>abgemacht<*cough*> has just stated that outside of the game deals (threats, bribes, etc.) aren't "a big deal" to him and he wouldn't do anything about them. I have a problem with this. What about the other mods? How do you all feel? Is this a tolerable activity?

No Messaging...?
I have noticed that there tend to be a lot of games that have only public messaging or no messaging at all... I was wondering why people would even play this type of variation in the first place. it seems to me to be equal to playing a game of poker with only half a deck of cards...

can someone explain the appeal to me please?

What do you tell your enemies? And far-away lands?
I am aware, that most of the best players communicate actively and frequently with everyone on the map, no matter seemingly irrelevant or outright foe. I have some questions for you:
1. What do you discuss with the countries you are fighting?
2. What do you discuss with countries on the other side of the map?
