What was your Diplomacy experience before Webdiplomacy?
For some people this is where it all started. For others, they had been playing face to face or on other websites, or even here on an earlier account.

WHAT A GAME IN ST. LOUIS! 10-9 CARDS IN 11 INNINGS!!! GAME 7 TOMORROW!!!
WOW!

THAT certainly has to be up there with the great games all-time in World Series History! Down to their last strike and down by 2 TWICE in the 9th aND 10th, the Cardinals tie it each time, and David Freese wins it in the bottom of the 11th with a HR!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT A GAME!

yes i case and tbh I'm throwing the bland at Cruz for that ridiculously stupid attempt at a catch with two outs in the 9th.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
@Tom:

I don't know about that...but LA RUSSA IS A GENIUS!

And that was jsut gutsy, GUTSY play by the Cards, down not once by TWICE to their last strike of the year, and BOTH TIMES they get a hit to tie the game, and then win it with a walk-of in the 11th!

The greatest games I've ever seen/heard...

1999 NLCS Game 5 with the mets winning on the Grand Single in the 15th...
2001 World Series Game 7 with the D-backs in extras and Mariano blowing the save...
2004 ALCS Games 4-7, where the Red Sox Reversed the Curse...
The 20-Inning Epic in April of 2009 where the Mets beat the Cards in 20 innings...

And THIS ONE now joins that list...WOW!

My 9-year old is getting his tutoring appointment cancelled for tomorrow...GAME 7! :D
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
28 Oct 11 UTC
agreed. I can't believe nobody has said anything about that. The game should have been over. Outrageously bad fielding by Cruz. Definitely a catchable ball.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
28 Oct 11 UTC
This game was exciting, but look at the number of errors. Bleh. And thats without the Cruz mishap that won't go down as an error.
WhiteSammy (100 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
Washington needs to stop trying to play la russa's stupid percentage game and go with what has gotten him to the world series....except Cruz in outfield of course.
WhiteSammy (100 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
The games that the rangers have lost are the ones where Washington tries to outcoach la russa...
WhiteSammy (100 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
oh and what the fuck was that ball one call against freese? That bullshit is what ruins games especially in the world series.
What a great game. It had everything. I don't think there is any game, besides maybe basketball with game deciding free throws where pressure is so palpable. That's what baseball can be.

And the errors I took as ridiculous amounts of nerves, but there were also great heads up plays, throwing behind the runner, that take out slide etc. Overall there are some games that just have that energy for me, Im thinking the games obi mentioned, also the early nineties games with the Twins and the Jays, and unfortunately the 2006 NLCS game 7 between the mets and cards where every pitch feels like a season
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
I didn't mind the errors...it was sort of odd in such a now-instantly-classic game there were a total of 5--I can't think of another "classic" with *that* many--but as SC says, likely nerves...

And it wasn't a pretty game at all, it was just a pure slugfest...and damn exciting, which is saying something when the game was 4 1/2 hours long...I can't honestly say there was a long stretch where I was bored, says something about how tense and exciting the game really was.

As for Cruz...

It WAS catchable--at first I was thinking "Oh, no, he's going to catch it!" because I jsut hate Texas, want them to lose, even if it means a Cardinals win, and THIS Cards team has heart, I can root for that, if not the Redbird logo--but not a given by any means.

On the run, catching up to it, at the wall...

It WAS a catchable ball, but not at all Bill Buckner-territory (though, hey, THAT made for a great Game 6 too, right, Mets fans?) :D

I don't know what I'd do if I was supporting one of the teams in the WS. I almost had a heart attack watching two team I couldn't care less about.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
Clearly...

If you were supporting STL--like I was as I hate Texas--you have an epic drink night...
If you were supporting TEX...you ahve a drink night to wash down the epic tragedy

Watching the St. Louis fans celebrate makes me wish even more that I was just a few years older so I could have appreciate Joe Carter's heroics.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
28 Oct 11 UTC
It was very very very catchable. Should have been an error imo. Also, why the hate towards Texas? I think they are a very likable team. Likable manager, great chemistry, good story in Hamilton. Whats not to like?
SacredDigits (102 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
I'm very meh on both teams, the Cardinals bore me and the Rangers have never done any thing to thrill me, and while I like teams that haven't won before to get the win, I just...they don't elicit any reaction in me. But it was a great game.
WhiteSammy (100 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
Why do you hate Texas so much? I can understand hating the Cowboys because everyone HATES Jerry Jones regardless of whether or not you are a cowboys fan. But the Rangers haven't won a WS along with a couple other ball clubs, got stomped last year by a much more deserving team only to come back the VERY NEXT YEAR with a much more rounded team, and have Michael Young who has 10 years devoted to the Rangers through losing seasons(regardless of how shoddy he has been in this postseason)).
WhiteSammy (100 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
I guess if you are hating us because we are still paying A-rods ridiculous salary it's a bit of a stretch. I'm not bashing on you because you do obi but im just wondering where this is based from. Well....maybe if you were an Astros fan.
SacredDigits (102 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
The biggest negative I see to Texas Rangers is: once owned by George W. Bush. And even that, I feel more sorry for them than angry at them about it.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
@Tom:

"Why the hate towards Texas?"

The Dallas Cowboys...always against my 49ers...
The Dallas Stars...used to crush my Ducks...
The Bush Family is from there...and I dislike them...

And I just generally dislike their state politics.

PLUS...

St. Louis gave the world T.S. Eliot, my favorite Modernist poet and huge hero to me...

Texas...can anyone here name an Eliot-level Texas-born or lived-in-Texas-a-lot writer?

We have Steinbeck and others here in California...
NY and BOS has a ton of them...
Hell, Mississippi has Mark Twain...
And St. Louis has Eliot (at least they share him with London, I guess):

Texas?

Goose egg there! ;)
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
And as a team...

They jsut aren't a team I like to see win, it'd be like watching the Arizona Cardinals win a SB...bleh!

Or if the Phoenix Coyotes or Florida Panthers won the Stanley Cup...who wants to see THAT?

So relieved with the Steelers won that one in dramatic fashion, too...
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
(Plus, as a baseball fan, I'm a HUGE pitcher/catchers/defense guy...

Hence my love of the Mets--

Great history of pitchers, good defense in the 1990s team I grew up with, and Mike Piazza growing up.

The Cards have Carpenter, Edwin Jackson, Kyle Lohse...a decent staff with a great, GREAT ACE, and their defense is usually better than it was tonight.

The Rangers just come across like another offense-offense-offense AL team...and I just hate the "bomber" style of team.

Hence the reason why, aside from the Yankees, Red Sox, and--occaisonally, as they're local and a bit more NL-styled--the Angels, I watch 90% of my baseball with the NL teams...

I LOVE the NL-style and HATE the AL-style.)
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
So unless it's the Phillies, Braves, or Dodgers in the World Series...or the Red Sox are playing for the AL...

I ahve to root for the NL team.
WhiteSammy (100 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
Obi...the Cowboys have a losing record against the 49ers.......
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
I still hate them, lol...

49ers/Cowboys/Packers was in the 1990s what Colts/Patriots/Steelers was a few years ago, and what Raiders/Steelers/Dolphinswas in the 1970s...

It was an EPIC 3-way rivalry, and the winner of the clash very often won the Super Bowl.

"Or if the Phoenix Coyotes or Florida Panthers won the Stanley Cup...who wants to see THAT?"

Or the lightning. That was a dark day for hockey,
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
28 Oct 11 UTC
Meh...I'm not as hard on the Lightning, jsut like I'm not as hard on the Astros...

Though that, I admit, is a distinction I can't fully explain, why Tampa/Houston=OK and Florida/Texas=Not OK for me...

St. Louis team ERA 3.74 (12th in league)
Texas team ERA 3.79 (13th in league)

Your telling me that St. Louis has pitching and defense, but Texas relies solely on offense? White Sammy has got this down. Texas is the team to root for! (In baseball anyway. Fuck the Cowboys. Stars are fine though. I hope they keep beating your goons in Anaheim)
Yonni (136 D(S))
28 Oct 11 UTC
I can't really get behind any hockey south of the Mason Dixon...

I was rooting for the Diamondbacks to win so Johnny Mac could get a ring.

For now, I'd like to see the Cards win because it's always special to see a team win in front of their home fans. It's sort of a let down seeing the away team win.
mike piazza was a terrible catcher...

Could somebody please explain why FTL neutrinos imply time travel?
I'm just watching "Faster than the Speed of Light" on the BBC with Prof Marcus du Sautoy and they said this (and break cause and effect), but they glossed over the how. I don't get it. How is FTL travel going to break cause and effect let alone time travel?
