@Draug

Since I was posting, I figured I would address the other issue that was brought up. If you'll notice, I didn't address that portion to you.

It is taking up ye's time because he is a new mod and wants to make sure he handled the case correctly and make sure everyone understands why he made the decisions he did.

It is taking up FK's time because he sees a new mod getting pushed around and tried to put a stop to it.

It is taking up my time because with figle and ghost on sabbatical , I am the highest ranking mod, and I will not sit back while my mods get in a fist fight with the community at large.

And I *know* you want to use D33 as a punching bag and I'm telling you to knock it off. No, I can't take points away, but you're giving us a headache *and* you're making it more likely that he'll just create a new account. How does that help anyone? Furthermore, keep in mind he's a young kid and no one likes a bully.

So, am I really going to do anything if you don't listen to me? Not really, but I'm not telling you this so I can trick you into getting banned. I'm telling you this because I think you're doing something detrimental to the community.

OK, I'll say this. I think yebellz handled it perfectly fine. No need to ban D33. The call was more to embarass him than anything else.

FK popped this back to the top. I won't apologize for responding to a smack down over a dead thread. He could have handled it via PM to those involved and avoided popping the thread back up. I like Josh and I'm sure he is still on the recovery from his pneumonia, but popping the thread back to the top was the wrong thing to do.

I do apologize that you feel the need to step in as senior mod, but I will point out that the thread was dead. I will keep poointing it out. If everyone stops responding, it will be dead again.

I feel like these threads are making D33 cackle in glee. Mr. V was clearly fake, and was also clearly designed to inflame the community.

The community's reaction the banning of Mr V has only served to elevate D33's level of trolling.

@ fortknox: "We try to make punishments private so this type of thing doesn't happen."

I'm sorry for commenting further despite your request that people stop doing so, but part of the problem is that if you keep punishments private, justice is not seen to be done. That is what I assume prompted Draugnar to start this thread in the first place.

@ abgemacht: "I'd like to avoid this mentality of us vs. them when it comes to the mods."

I agree that the mods are of course members of the community - valued members at that. I respect the fact that you guys give your time voluntarily to help keep things running. I would generally like to avoid an "us versus them" mentality. I do have to say, however, that Yebellz, with his initial contribution to this thread, did actually inflame the situation by telling us off for discussing a "cheating accusation" - when in fact, as has been clear all along - this is *proven* cheating, not an accusation.

I would also like to suggest that it was a mistake to remove the little flags identifying which members are moderators. When I first responded to Yebellz in this thread, I had no idea he was a mod, and therefore presumed him to be ill-informed when he suggested he had knowledge of an "ongoing investigation".

This is a big problem, I am sick of the constant forum threads going, "I'm new, I don't know how to find a mod, I looked and no luck so here are the people I think are cheating:"
There have been at least 2 of these since Diplomat33's case became all the rage. I'm perfectly fine with leaving judgement to the mods and punishment as well, I think that has worked pretty well in the past. The biggest problem with Diplomat's case has been his attitude afterward. Had he simply remained quiet I think this issue would have blown over a lot more quietly and easily.

If you click on the profile, you'll see we are mods.

This thread was in the middle of the front page when I responded. To say it was going to die off, I disagree.

"If you click on the profile, you'll see we are mods."

So now before responding to anything anyone posts on the forum, I need to double-check their profile to see if they have become a mod since the last time I disagreed with them? That's not exactly helpful.

Agreed, also, many new players or player unfamiliar with the forum who only come here for ingame help do not know that moderator status is listed on profiles, plus it appears at the bottom of the profile and is easy to miss.

It's what we've had to do before the little tag... and we only had that tag a couple weeks. It's not like we are in any different times with major changes.

Also, for the record, there were two threads announcing yebellz and geo were new mods. Sorry you missed them.

Here's the current list (and we aren't looking for additional mods, so it'll be the same for a while).
Admins: kestasjk, figlesquidge, TheGhostmaker, abgemacht
Mods: yebellz, Thucydides, orathaic, fortknox, Geofram, TrustMe

Figle and TGM are on sabbatical. Thucy is out of the country and rarely on. Geo and TrustMe only deal with tourney related moderation.

Especially with long intro texts. On some of the mods, you have to scroll way down the page to see the Mod / Admin Team text.

"we only had that tag a couple weeks"

Yes, but it was *very* useful in situations such as this. But then I suppose you wouldn't want to be conspicuous while you are secretly dispensing justice in darkness, huh?
fortknox (2059 D)

Thucy is on enough to deal with the games he's in. He doesn't have time to moderate much.

"then I suppose you wouldn't want to be conspicuous while you are secretly dispensing justice in darkness, huh?"

Again, this isn't something we just started doing. We've always kept moderation and punishment private.

Ya shouldn't have said that FK... Ya just shouldn't have...

I'll let you guess why.
Perhaps just highlighting your name? Allso, a lot of other forums have different color text for when mods are talking as moderators and when they're just talking as members

I got it!

A special "message the mods" link that goes to a page to send the mods a message via email (it's easy enough to make a web call connect to an email server and create a message) under every mod's name. It can just send it to the webdipmod address, but will make that feel more integrated into the site.

Q. F. T.

What is hard about not feeding the trolls. I seriously don't get this.

First time Mr. V posted in the forum, I muted em. After reading this thread (Which was actually a tremendous amount of fun, FK, and the first time I've actually participated in this community in any real way in a long time) I've muted D33 too. I want nothing more to do with em.

@ fortknox: "this isn't something we just started doing. We've always kept moderation and punishment private."

And that causes arguments of this nature, when justice isn't seen to be done. Who cares for how long you've kept justice in the dark? "Justice" in darkened rooms, behind closed doors, with verdicts and outcomes kept secret, is a pretty shaky kind of justice.

I guess I successfully predicted the future in the October ghost ratings topic
As of Friday, I was in four games. In the last 24 hours (well, 30 technically, but it's close) I received the following message three times: "You were defeated, and lost your bet; better luck next time!" Bye bye, highest GR spot for me to date. I've never been so soundly defeated so often in so short a time.

The United States Shouldn't Have Entered WW2
The United States intervention in World War Two cost 418,000 American lives. And, really, what did the United States gain from it? Hitler was gone and Nazi Germany was destroyed, but much of Eastern Europe running from East Germany to Russia was under the (de jure or de facto) rule of Stalin and the Soviet Union. U.S. intervention fostered the spread of communism by destroying its primary opponent, fascism, thus setting up the Cold War for the next fifty years.

Hi I used to use the email dip judges, and am rather new to the Webdip site. I really like the setup, but I'm not a huge fan of how the maps are drawn. is it possible to generate a "results" map without the arrows for a more uncluttered look?

New fast pased game!
I am wanting to sit down and play a good game. I was wanting it to be 10-20 min for each turn. Bet only 5. It would be zero but it seems that is not allowed. I require 6 additional players. If you would like to play reply to this thread and spread the word. Once I have the needed players I will post the link to the game. Enjoy, looking forward to a game and have a good day.

Irregular etiquette... cheating
In game Supper's ready France and Austria has a strange comportament:
Austria has 18 SC plus other 2 SC to conquer to France and win instead he does not finish the game leaving the SCs to France while France announces that he wants more England's SCs before Austria win...
It's not regular do I ask the intervent of moderators...

Male / female pay equality
I just read an article on the BBC, basically someone got sacked for saying women in New Zealand get paid 12% less, but it's because they need more leave (in particular he hinted at women's menstrual cycle as causing regular sick leave in some women)..

Young-Earth Creationism
I learned today that, according to polls, a solid 40-50% of Americans believe in Young-Earth creationism, the view that God directly made the Earth and humans (no evolution!) about 6,000-10,000 years ago. Yay for American intelligence!
