I guess I successfully predicted the future in the October ghost ratings topic
As of Friday, I was in four games. In the last 24 hours (well, 30 technically, but it's close) I received the following message three times: "You were defeated, and lost your bet; better luck next time!" Bye bye, highest GR spot for me to date. I've never been so soundly defeated so often in so short a time.

The United States Shouldn't Have Entered WW2
The United States intervention in World War Two cost 418,000 American lives. And, really, what did the United States gain from it? Hitler was gone and Nazi Germany was destroyed, but much of Eastern Europe running from East Germany to Russia was under the (de jure or de facto) rule of Stalin and the Soviet Union. U.S. intervention fostered the spread of communism by destroying its primary opponent, fascism, thus setting up the Cold War for the next fifty years.

I have always been intrigued by this opening (sev-->black sea,
warsaw-->galicia, moscow-->st pete's, st pete's-->gulf of bothnia) but have never really had the balls to try it out. Does anyone prefer this opening/has anyone won by this opening? Any general thoughts on its merits/detriments are welcomed.

Maps
Hi I used to use the email dip judges, and am rather new to the Webdip site. I really like the setup, but I'm not a huge fan of how the maps are drawn. is it possible to generate a "results" map without the arrows for a more uncluttered look?

Hoe is het in Nederland dan? Ik ben alweer een poosje weg daar. Hoe is het weer bij jullie? Zijn jullie ook dat gezeur van die Wilders zat of is ie nog erg populair bij sommigen? Ben benieuwd.

New fast pased game!
I am wanting to sit down and play a good game. I was wanting it to be 10-20 min for each turn. Bet only 5. It would be zero but it seems that is not allowed. I require 6 additional players. If you would like to play reply to this thread and spread the word. Once I have the needed players I will post the link to the game. Enjoy, looking forward to a game and have a good day.

Irregular etiquette... cheating
In game Supper's ready France and Austria has a strange comportament:
Austria has 18 SC plus other 2 SC to conquer to France and win instead he does not finish the game leaving the SCs to France while France announces that he wants more England's SCs before Austria win...
It's not regular do I ask the intervent of moderators...
Thanks

Male / female pay equality
I just read an article on the BBC, basically someone got sacked for saying women in New Zealand get paid 12% less, but it's because they need more leave (in particular he hinted at women's menstrual cycle as causing regular sick leave in some women)..

Young-Earth Creationism
I learned today that, according to polls, a solid 40-50% of Americans believe in Young-Earth creationism, the view that God directly made the Earth and humans (no evolution!) about 6,000-10,000 years ago. Yay for American intelligence!

Animals (like cows) provide valuable resources to us in terms of the things we can get from them when we breed them and then, sadly, slaughter them. Leather, for example, is one of the byproducts of us obtaining meat. Leather is used to make couches, baseballs, footballs, car furniture, wallets, shoes, etc. Even lamb still produce hide that is a product. So I do think meat eating as a natural and worthwhile cause.

can can run around forever on this one sir. You will never get us all to agree.

I eat meat in moderation, and only grass fed meat because of the very high Omega Fatty Acids (good ones, not bad) in it.

Mostly Fish though, some chicken, a good steak rarely.

Why is it that every one of your posts is geared towards creating argument Diplomat33? None of your threads seem to be constructive and I'm pretty sure the only only reason you made that teen tournament was to get some easier competition in your games. The only reason you have not been muted is because I am curious to see your responses to Jamiet and Draugnar.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

Why would it be "bad" ?

We are meat eaters by nature. Our bodies have developed to eat meat. We have canine teeth.

I think the meat industry in some countries could do with higher welfare standards, and I think that we eat too much meat in the west, which is one of the reasons we have difficulties with obesity, but the eating of meat itself is fine.
It would be better if humans in general ate less meat, both for health reasons and environmental sustainability reasons. That said, I eat meat probably 15x a week and don't plan to change. I love eating meat.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
17 Oct 11 UTC
Hmm. How many times a week do I eat meat?

I generally have cereal for breakfast but once a week I have a bacon sandwich. So that's one.

I have a sandwich for lunch pretty much every day, sometimes cheese salad, but usually either prawn, tuna, or chicken salad. So that's say five times a week.

My evening meals vary and include meat or fish probably five days out of seven.

So I eat meat (including fish) on average 11 times a week.

Draugnar (0 DX)

God/evolution/whatever made us into omnivores. That means our bodies respond best to a mixed diet of meats and veggies/fruits/grains. Our teeth are such that we can consume both (unlike a dog or cat whose teeth are oritented around meat or a cow or pig whose teeth are oriented around vegetation or a hummingbird who exclusively lives on a liquid diet). A well balanced diet of both provides the most health benefits.

What we should be arguing is artificial sweeteners versus corn syrup versus cane sugar.
acmac10 (120 D(B))

I hate HFCS. I've totally dropped it from my diet. For that reason alone, I won't eat ketchup, certain brands of chocolate milk (think Hood), Sprite (but I will drink Sierra Mist Natural as that has a combination of cane sugar and beet sugar), some juices, some salad dressings, a lot of sodas, some spreads (jelly, peanut butter, cream cheese), and a whole lot of everything. I go--hopefully--all natural and try to be as organic and and as local as possible. I've literally had to go over the the head chef at my school's cafeteria to ask for the ingredient list of some stuff (sigh). Ah well. GO MOTHER NATURE AND GOOD OL' CANE SUGAR!
Draugnar (0 DX)

Good for you, acmac! There are all natural peanut butters at the grocery store and you could get Smucker's sugar free jams and preserves to go with it. Also, go hit the local farmer's markets for homemade jams, jellies, preserves and "butters" like apple or pumpkin.

^I love some of the homemade strawberry jams I can find (too bad my favorite is about 4 hours away, we stop by when we go visit our relatives in NY).

Speaking of good, sweet things....have you guys tried maple butter? I first tried it a couple years back when I went to Quebec....it is delicious. It is as good or better than maple syrup on some waffles. It's some real good stuff.

I have to agree with Draugnar, since human beings are designed to be omnivores, that is what I am. Although I probably should eat less fried chicken and more fish lol
About 20 years ago there was a guy who used to work with me who suddenly announced that he was a veggie (he hadn't been before). However, he was also on the social club committee and ended up organising the BBQ! (No, I don't know how either). As if that wasn't bad enough he put up advertising posters that referred to the different foods that would be available for "vegetarians" and "carnivores". I wasn't having that, so I put up slightly different posters that corrected the obvious inaccuracies by referred to "herbivores" and "omnivores". I also added a question (actually a quote from my favourite author) "How much intelligence does it take to sneak up on a leaf?".

He had the last laugh though - he did the shopping for the event and, when it was over there was an awful lot of veggie food left over. Guess who's freezer it all ended up in?

Let's see. Cows eat vegetables. Cows taste really good. Vegetarians eat vegetables....
@Draugnar: Your right. The perfect food for a human has to be another human. Anything else you eat has to have more than you need of some things and less than you need of others.
