Are no-hitters not a big deal anymore?
When guys like Ervin Santana can get one and we've had something like 10 in the past 2 seasons are no hitters going to become passe?

Also, what the heck is La Russa's major malfunction?

Account sitting.
I'll be out of town for four or five days, and I'm not sure what to do. I'm pretty new to this site so I'm not sure how it works, but I've seen people mention 'account sitting'? How does that work? What are the rules? How do I find someone to do that for me? I guess I'm just looking for a general explanation. Thanks in advance. Oh, and sorry if this is explained elsewhere on the site. Perhaps I missed it when I looked.

How Much Is Everyone Muting?
I ask becuase I see folks saying they're muting folks in threads more and more...and it just seems like a shame and almost unfair to me, really...granted I'm probably one of the most-muted on the site--at least I would guess I am--but even so, all the more reason I just can't mute anyone..."if you can't stand the heat"...? You can't have it both ways, give a critical opinion and erect a shield to deflect all criticism, even if that "criticism" is a foolish troll, yes?

An Education in Economics
Liberals have the mistaken and baseless idea that government creates jobs, that government creates demand that stimulates the economy, and that any time there is a great reduction in government spending a recession will result.

Looking for sitter
I'll be away for 5-6 days next week and still have a couple games running. It shouldn't be too huge of a time commitment if anyone is willing, since one is a 4 day phase world game in which I have only a single unit. The other is a game in the summer gunboat tournament, so someone not part of that would be preferred.
I hope I'm not asking too much with only a few days notice, but if someone with a good reputation would PM me saying they can, I would be extremely grateful.

Immorality of the State vs Morality of the Market
Big government advocates proceed under the assumption that government is moral and the marketplace is immoral when the exact opposite is true.

Gramalji now says market forces built the national infrastructure?
I guess Gramalji's education is quite lacking.
The Federal Highways Act of the Eisenhower administration built the highways, not the market.
In fact the government excluded private roads. You have to get a government permit to build toll roads in California.
There isn't any market in infrastructure building.
The government monolopy controls it. I wonder how many trillions have been wasted since 1956 building roads because of the government monopoly.
Just another example of the immorality of Big Government

I can say what I want with impunity. I'm almost certain I am one of these mythical "muted sheep" he keeps bleating on about.

For instance, I could point out that the market and the government are not necessarily in opposition, that much government action actually exists to further corporate interests, rather than oppose them. I could also point out that the entire dichotomy on which he's built this thread people who think the government is moral, vs. people who think the free market is moral is a completely false one and that what he calls "Big government statists" don't necessarily believe the government is moral at all. I could point out that this misapprehension exists because Tettleton is simply not intelligent enough to understand that it is possible to take a nuanced stance on a complex issue like government involvement in economic and social policy. But none of it will matter, because he's decided to mute me. And if by some miracle I'm wrong, and he hasn't, he'll just completely ignore this post anyway.

"The Federal Highways Act of the Eisenhower administration built the highways, not the market"

Ah, I understand now. My claim:
Market forces build the national infrastructure that the free market relies on? Hardly"
It seems so foolish now.

Of course, Tettleton's argument is that if the govt had not passed restrictive legislation the free market would have taken care of it. Tautological (or tettleogical?) of course. But if wishes were fishes, I still wouldn't be able to open a sushi restaurant because I would have to bow to the bloooody health inspector.

Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)
22 Jul 11 UTC
What do you mean the "free market would have taken care of it?"

So now the market must meet Gramilaj's expectations.
Who are you Gramilaj? You are just another individual in the market, powerless except over your won life.
That's the beauty of the market.
The market doesn't build a highway where you want it then organize investors and build one.
Are you a sheep Gramailaj? Are you incapable of getting things done?
Are you not able to convince other free individuals that your idea is worth their time?
Statements are so revealing.

So the government doesn't hurt the market, the market hurts the government. Since the rich people are the ones who run the government, the rich ones in the market use their power in the government, to get richer in the market. Therefore the markets hurt themselves, but not their selves.

Is anything more immoral than depriving an individual of a job?
Human beings get personal dignity from work.
From Obama's inauguration in January 2009 until Obamacare went into effect in April 2010 the US economy was creating almost 70,000 jobs a month.
Since Obamacare began the economy has created less than 7,000 jobs a month.

You hear the arguments by Big Government Statists all the time that it's immoral that all Americans don't have health insurance.
What is really immoral is destroying jobs and inhibiting job creation when work is what adult human beings get their dignity from.
Huh... do I read you wrong, or are people morally obligated to have a job, then, TC?
Kingdroid (219 D)

Mafialligator (239 D)
23 Jul 11 UTC
"Human beings get personal dignity from work." - Wouldn't that depend on the job in question? And secondly, the only reason that has any truth to it at all is because society has been structured that way. It's not something inherent to human nature, or to the idea of a job. And I suspect that's a constructed idea that flourishes because it benefits the rich and powerful.

Speaking of Government immorality.
The masses of Americans made dependent on social security checks are being blackmailed by a lie from President Obama.
Obama says he couldn't guarantee social security checks if the debt ceiling wasn't raised (as if he was in charge of social security).

This position was completely demolished Thomas Saving in a Wall Street Journal Op-Ed.

By law the Treasury is bound to redeem any bonds presented to it by the Social Security Administration. And when the Treasury does, total government debt subject to the debt limit falls by the amount of the redemption—thus freeing up the Treasury's ability to issue new bonds equal in amount to the redeemed Trust Fund bonds.

Therefore, meeting Social Security obligations in August, September and all future months in this fashion would add nothing to the gross government debt subject to the debt limit.

Nothing like some cold-hard facts of law to expose the immorality of President Obama's lies.
Does it get any more immoral than the President telling lies so the government can borrow more money from our children and grandchildren to finance government programs that create crippling dependence and destroy dignity.
Mafialligator (239 D)

"Speaking of Government immorality." No one but you is talking about government immorality Tettleton. If you're just going to carry on one sided conversations, why don't you just use the thread Smiley made for you?
This seems like a very loaded topic. You say it's a standoff between a moral force and an immoral force, when the topic is actually about whether or not they are moral. A bit strange, I must admit.

Hysteria & Welfare State Bankruptcy
In the current budget debate you see two viewpoints-the House of Representatives realizes the Welfare State is bankrupt with $200 Trillion in deficits and unfunded liabilities. The Obama administration and the Senate think everything will be fine if they raise taxes and keep pumping devalued dollars into the economy.

gunboats are stupid and ruin diplomacy
the point of diplomacy is exactly what it says. DIPLOMACY. When we get rid of ingame messaging it does away with the crucial factor of diplomacy and results in no improvement of luck. It actually makes the game far more random and chancy than it should be. I believe that we need to get rid of this option to allow DIPLOMACY to take its course. Please add your comments about this.
