To be berated by Draugnar post cheating accusations here!

Live Game Etiquette
I'm curious to hear different takes on live game etiquette. If there are no-shows, or players miss the first phase, it seems to be that the game should be cancelled or at least a draw. However, if one player is the benefiary of said no-show, then he or she has little or no incentive to vote for a draw or cancellation, forcing all the other players to participate in a game in which he or she has a distinct starting advantage.

2. Australian Open Tennis

I live in Melbourne, that's why. I am not really a big sports fan, but I would rather watch the Tennis than Aussies Rules. That is said if some gave me a ticket to the AFL Grand Final, I would definitely go.

1. Cricket World Cup (every 3 years)
2. Went to the OSU-Penn State game this year, got to see the Buckeyes destroy Paterno. Also saw a thrilling NHL game once - Blue Jackets-Redwings, Jackets managed to win.

Dear non-US folks: if you like the bracketing aspect of the football World Cup (England or Paraguay? Japan or Nigeria?) you might enjoy signing up on one of the numerous online brackets for March Madness. You can choose teams based on strength, location in parts of the US you are vaguely familiar with, or the nicknames that are ubiquitous in American college sports (Spiders, Vikings, Aggies, Banana Slugs, you name it). It is fun to see which of the 68 (this year) teams advance in single-elimination play, two games a weekend, through March.

Enjoy the Cricket World Cup!
Wait...there's 68 teams this year?

1 and 2. Copa Libertadores - South America's main club soccer competition. I've never managed to get a ticket for a final match though, only semis.
Putin33 (111 D)

Yes I played in a cricket club in undergrad. I'm terrible at it but it's fun. I got hooked when we managed to pull off getting funding for a satellite dish to watch the world cup in 2003. The friends of mine who I lived on my floor were mostly from South Asia and southern Africa, and cricket was their religion.
Rugby world cup in 202 days anyone?

Did any of you guys used to (or currently) wrestle? That was the most fun I ever had with sport.

2. Opening Day of Major League Baseball
Draugnar (0 DX)
18 Feb 11 UTC
@JetJag - Whose opening day? To me, the Reds opening game *is* opening day. I hated when Ueberroth decided the oldest team in baseball no longer necessarily got to throw out the first pitch. On that day, baseball went to hell in a handbasket.
Ges (292 D)
18 Feb 11 UTC
@Goldfinger: Yes, they've expanded the number of play-in games for NCAA men's basketball this year. Hopefully they're not testing the waters for another big expansion.
Ges (292 D)
18 Feb 11 UTC
At least the Reds sometimes play baseball. I'm beginning to suspect that the Orioles are now a works program for unemployed curlers between stagings of the Winter Olympics.
Spryboy (103 D)
18 Feb 11 UTC
Mets win the world Series. ODU wins the NCAA basketball championship. Panthers win Super Bowl. Someone not named Jimmie Johnson will win the Sprint Cup. Those are my completely biased opinions on who will the next upcoming American major sports championships. I just wanted to do that because I already answered the original post and because this is a sports thread.
eggzavier - what is american hockey?

Best thing I've attended: Sheffield United centenary match vs Sheffield Wednesday.

"Sheffield United centenary match vs Sheffield Wednesday."

Jealous. Which side are you on?

"Day 5 of the 1981 England v. Australia (Cricket) Test Match at Headingley ("Botham's Ashes")"

Damn, what a comeback that was. You're from Leeds? If I ever get over to England the first thing on my list is a LUFC game. Can't wait to kick some Canary behind tomorrow.
