done once and updated per month and cached wouldn't be an issue.

The current SQL-querry is 0.0017 sec. on my (small install), maybe kestas could test how it's affecting his site (with that many games). But for such a large site a monthly-updated stats page would be enough.
Also you can get the data from this site in a sql-file and search for anything you like.

I've been doing a lot of php and mysql lately (I'm certainly no expert yet) and I thought it be cool to see if I could make a some sort of application that allowed you to recap a game.

For instance, it would take all the chat messages and display them as the turns move forward and the map develops. It'd be interesting to see everyone else's messages while watching the game moves forward.

I think it'd be a great way to dissect any particular game. But anyway, I digress...carry on...

If you guys want to actually write the page or write a script that generates the page from the DB, I bet it would be easier to nudge kestas to put it in (hint, hint).

The code is already published on the dev forums. But I'm not that good at PHP, so kestas might come up with something much better if he want to release stats...

@Darwyn, by all the messages, what do you mean? i beleive people think their private messages should remain just that, and i while i've got a copy of the database somewhere, it has all the messages stripped out. (but having a graphed output of characters per year between each nation would be pretty deadly - no invasion of privacy, just an idea of how much negotiation was going on...)

It would be neat to see this for this site, and running off of numbers calculated once a month makes sense. But do you do all time numbers? Or last 12 months or 6 months? Or provide access to both sets of numbers?

For each variant (Classic, Anc Med, World), it would also be nice to see it broken down by anon vs non-anon, WTA vs PPSC, full press vs public press vs no press, and each possible combination. Something like:
