Suggestion: Draw by centers
A lot of games end up with finishing off draw participants. Maximizing the outcome for the remaining powers. Not the best practice, from a certain perspective. Would it make sense to have the option for draws to not be equal. Everyone gets 1/7th (his entry cost) + a part of the rest, split proportionally to center count.

Can a convoy cut support?
I'm about to convoy an army to a territory A, with support from an adjacent territory B. My opponent has a unit in territory A and a unit in a third territory C adjacent to territory B. I'm worried he may order terC-terB with support from terA. I know that this will cut support from terB and make the convoy fail, but will the convoy at least cut support from terA and make his attack fail as well?
Thanks!

chat room?
how much server strain would it be to set up a chat room for the live gamers? Working on the theory that you would then get to see who really was around, and whether or not it was worth starting a fresh game. Having the option to place icons after a name for things like "in a game" and "keen to play", and being able to show idle times and stuff like that?

Being new here I don't know if this has been discussed before but would be interested in feedback.

Fallout: New Vegas
Would have posted this in the "Advice" Thread, but then I noticed, there were about 20 of them...
Who's played it? How is it? Looks good, but want to know more before I shell out the 50 clams.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))

I've logged about 14 hours so far in it. If you liked Fallout 3, then I don't think you will be disappointed. Its essentially just a huge DLC for Fallout 3; there is no new graphics or new gameplay mechanics, but its the same great formula that Fallout 3 was based on.

So far the story is pretty cool. Although is starts out in the Wasteland which is very similar to 3, once you get to the Strip you get a "new" feeling about the game.

Be warned though! The game is OUTRAGEOUSLY buggy. Save often because it crashes sometimes (and save files can get corrupted) and some crazy shit/glitches can mess up the game. Patches will be coming though! Overall, definitely worth it if you liked Fallout 3.

My friend was the lead animator for that game.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
28 Oct 10 UTC
Is it really that buggy? I've heard some complaints, but figured it was isolated to particular people.

Noting more frustrating than trying to play a buggy game.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
28 Oct 10 UTC
Its pretty damn buggy. I assume by the $50 price tag you mentioned that you play on PC? I play on xbox and they have already released a patch to help alleviate some of the issues, but they have a long way to go.

Most of it is minor stuff like some guy coming and starting a conversation with you in the middle of a battle, or a Brahmin getting stuck in odd places. I was just frustrated when I wrote that because my save file got corrupted and I had to redo about 30 min. of quests that I already did. Thats a pain in the ass.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
28 Oct 10 UTC
Yeah, I'd probably play it on PC, unless there is a PS3 version.

All the same, for $50 I like my games to work : )
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
28 Oct 10 UTC
In that case, you may want to wait a week or so until some of the major issues get worked out.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
28 Oct 10 UTC
Yeah, I think I'll do that. It does look good, though.
BigZombieDude (1188 D)
28 Oct 10 UTC
Fallout 3 and New Vegas are on all platforms.

As Tom suggests its a brilliant game and if you liked Fallout 3 you will love this. It is glitchy but if you save often it shouldn't affect you too much. In fact i think Bethesda cant make a game without it, Oblivion was the same.

Get it, you will have hundreds of hours of fun with it and it will be worth every penny you spend on it.

OK, Now I just need to decide if I want it on PC or PS3...

Fuck any type of FPS without a mouse. Seriously. I'm way too much of an old Quake 2 player to be able to not have a mouse.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

@Jack

For a long time, I agreed. However, I've started to notice that a lot of new FPS on PC have been a lot less enjoyable then their console counter-parts. Bioshock 2, for instance, was a cluster-fuck on the PC. I have Boarderlands for PC and PS3. While it is fun on PC, I feel like the entire UI is set up specifically for consoles.
ashen_shugar (236 D)
29 Oct 10 UTC
I agree completely, though in F3 you do get VATS, so it might work out better, than your average FPS, on the console - I'll still be buying it on the PC though ;-)
BigZombieDude (1188 D)
29 Oct 10 UTC
I think ashen could be right for Fallout. Consoles do have the better playability in my opinion but then its a market that is starting to out do the PC, but with VATS, it would take away the need to be quicker.

Good luck choosing. Either way, its a great game.

Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))

You shouldn't be disappointed. Now that I am farther, I appreciate it more. I thought the main story in 3 was cheesy, and I think this one is better (although some would disagree)

Played for about 4 hours and only crashed twice (and once was my computer's fault).

So far, it's pretty enjoyable; I could see myself getting pretty involved. I can't figure out how to play caravan for the life of me, though : (
As has been stated already, the game's basically a massive DLC for Fallout 3. There've been plenty of improvements though. One thing I hated about Fallout 3 was the fact that there never seemed to be anyone with enough caps to buy all of my crap; New Vegas has got an abundance of traders, most of whom are pretty loaded.

Oh, and has anyone else noticed that the "Spiked Knuckles" kind of kick ass now, even at a ridiculously low unarmed level?
sean (3490 D(B))
04 Nov 10 UTC
I heard they upped the hand to hand combat side of things in New Vegas to make it more appealing, it was underpowered in F3.

arrggh ...my game arrived by post today...opened the box...... Wii music!? WTF? shop made a mistake, bastards

Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
04 Nov 10 UTC
Why are you complaining? I would much rather have wii music than fallout!
sean (3490 D(B))
04 Nov 10 UTC
but then I would need to go out and buy a Wii!
shop is a bit cocky, after they said sorry they want me to mail back the Wii games, giving me store credit for the postage, bit rich, basically making me have to buy more games from them to get my money back that I used to fix up their fuck up.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
04 Nov 10 UTC
That's horrible. :S And I hope you know that was a joke. I've got a Wii...its very good at collecting dust.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

@sean

re: postage. Complete BS. Don't agree to that

@Tom

haha agreed. My roommates and I played SSBB a ton when I first got the wii. It's now hasn't been turned on in almost 2 years after we got bored of SSBB. There really isn't much else good.

It really is a fantastic game, one of the bes that I've ever played. It has all the aspects of Fallout 3, but goes deeper into each. Factions are MUCH more present, in addition to the two major factions, there are a great deal of "minor" and "petty" factions that you're free to squabble or coperate with. (I always found it bothersome that you would
always be with the BoS in 3)
There are an incredible amount of quests, most of witch have several outcomes. The setup of the world also seems to make more sense, with much less wasted space and pointless locations. Althought the layout is superior, there are noticably less "dungeons" due to the lack of a metro and there being fewer abandoned industrial buildings.
I also like how there are many more opportunities to use your skills in conversation, often allowing you to talk your way out of fights, or subvert quests all together (read: dump points into speech)

The only true flaw in the game is it's instability, the crashes and quirky bugs to dampen the experince a bit, but a handy autosave feature prevents you from having to replay too much
All said and done, it's a fantastic game if you're looking for a deep RPG with a great deal if replay value and don't mind the occasional crash or bug.
