google page rank question
I have created my professional site with blogger (dikaiosini.gr) and it contains about 10 steady pages and a tab where I post news.
Posting news aims to drive a little more traffic to the site so that people may check the rest of it.
I figured I should use blogger instead of wordpress joomla or drupal cause I have the impression that blogger is better ranked in google as far as blog news are concerned
what do you think?

European Map from 1911
Wikimedia Commons has a nice map of Europe from 1911
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Europe_1911.jpg

It's the nicest map relevant to the game of Diplomacy that I have been able to find on the internet. Has anyone else been able to find something nicer?

Makes me sick to my stomach. I don't care how well trained my daughter is at something, I would never let her go around the world on her own. I just pray she isn't a sex slave on a pirate boat right now.

If you support a unit....
If you support a unit that is supporting another unit, does it count? Say, you are Russia and you have an army in Ukraine. You want to support a fleet in St. Petersburg, so you have the army in Ukraine support another army in Moscow. The army in Moscow is supporting the fleet in St Pete. Does the army in Ukraine support the fleet in St Pete?

Seems very fishy.
Kinda weird that Italy and Austria automatically started to defend each other from the beginning. I am not going to be 'that guy', but I think they are cheating.

Why is gunboat so popular?
I'm just curious about reasons why various people like playing gunboat. Is it because they like the change of pace in trying something new? Or do some people prefer not having to deal with all of the talking and diplomacy? Or are people just looking for quick live games? Or do some people just enjoy a purely tactical game? Please chime in and share your reasons.

I've not played a proper diplomacy game in ages, because I don't have the time to do it justice, and I'd rather do a simpler game well than a complex game badly.

Some people find they are good tactically but crappy at negotiations, and others do it as a break from the traditional.

My primary game-mode is Chess, so for me, gunboat is closest to that. I'm much better at moving pieces than talking to other players.

Thanks for the perspectives. I just wanted to get a general feeling for the common reasons why people play gunboat. It seems like a fun concept. I'm sure I'll try it some time. It must be quite novel to play diplomacy without the diplomacy.

There is a lot of diplomacy that goes on in gunboats! It just takes a better understanding of alliance dynamics and strategics to be able to read between the lines! For instance, if England opens NWG, NTH, EDI, it's pro-French, anti-Russian and neutral towards Germany. If Italy opens VEN H, APU, ION, it's probably a lepanto (anti-Turkish, pro French) and so on.

For me I want to play a quick game and it suits the purpose.I find for me that 5 minutes with press is impossible since my typing is slow and wastes too much time.Would prefer 10 or 15 minute phases with press but alot of players find the game to long so opt for the quick fix of gunboat instead.

Gunboats for me are mainly because people are stupid, and I don't want to talk to them... :)

My favourite type of live game are Public press, as it is quite tactical but you can still form alliances and talk freely, whereas i find gunboat dull due to the lack of talk :P

I play gunboat sometimes, but I really don't see appeal. If you want a tactical game, play Chess. If you want a tactical game with lots of players, play Risk. Negotiations is what makes Diplomacy Diplomacy. Like calling two pieces of bread a peanut butter sandwich.

I like the challenge of relaying my intentions and offers through my moves. Supporting to help a neighbor in when it is clear to me what he intends and pulling off a successful attack is a beautiful thing when it was all done without talking.

@Voice: You've only been in one gunboat that went past 1910, so maybe its an issue of the quality of player.
A weak player or two unbalances the game much more notably in gunboat than regular diplomacy.
In contrast, most of the games on the first page of my profile are gunboat, with an average end-date somewhere around 1912.
Indeed, there's gameID=16346 which still has 6 players in 1916: the balance of power is fairer than it was in real life by that point!

A not quite cheating accusation
A question regarding a game that happened some time in the past few days. Lets say I was about to join a live game, but noticed that two of the players play all of their games together and thought better of it. Lets say I watched the opening moves of said game to satisfy my curiosity and noticed the two previously mentioned players act in perfect unison from the start. Is it worth reporting this game to the mods despite not having played in it myself, or am I just turning into an arse?
