When you join a game, you are fully aware of the phase lengths. Players are quite within their rights to take the whole length of each phase to input their orders. You have no right to hassle people to finalise quickly.

it's called courtesy.. there is no need in a gunboat to finalise

unless they arent completely sure they wont change their orders, and they get up to go to the bathroom or eat or whatever and are not sure if they will make it back in time.

i haaaaaaaaaaaate when people give me shit about saving my orders and not finalizing before the phase length is up.

It's not giving anybody shit. It is a request because some players don't know about it. If you are letting the time run on purpose, all the power to you.

its gunboat there is no information that would make them change their mind unless they are cheating..
and yeah okay once to go to the toilet or eat is fine, but if you're going to the toilet every phase- see a doctor

you dont necessarily need information to change your mind. you could be undecided over whether or not what youre doing is the right move anyway.

while i personally dont do it on purpose, i think its aggrivating but ok, because it could be used as a tactic- remember, this is diplomacy, anything goes. youre allowed to use the whole phase, so if somebody wants to drag it out

Well, I don't mind so much. Revenge was helping Turkey to win.

I always finalize my orders unless i'm waiting for a message, i don't mind so much in diplomacy phases, but during retreats or builds where they only have 1 disband, retreat or destroy is really annoying.

I'm with Hellenic. If there's some reason for me to suspect I may have to change orders, I'll save, but otherwise, I just finalize. I'm in a game now, one person in a gunboat game has to retreat with 24 hour phases. Does he finalize? Noooo.

As for phase lengths, I wish there were, like, emergency buffer zones. So like, 12 hour phases with 12 hour emergency buffers. So in the first 12 hours, you can save, finalize, whatever, but after that, you can only finalize. When I play a 24 hour game, it's not because I want every turn to be 24 hours. It's because I expect that at some point someone may need that 24th hour because of an isolated emergency situation. Otherwise, I appreciate early finalizations.

It's your right to do take the whole phase. This is correct.

So if you need to take a shit, sure. But in a gunboat live game, if you are consistently taking the whole time.... one has to ask what the guy's problem is.

I don't see how it could ever be used as a tactic. More likely than anything it will make everyone else want to hunt you down and eliminate you for the sake of getting the game moving.

So yes, you can do it. People DO do it. But in a gunboat live game there is very little reason to do it EVERY phase unless you are just a slow-ass at inputing orders. In which case, if it really takes you the WHOLE phase to finish writing your orders, you probably shouldn't play live games.

My two cents.

If you're in a live gunboat please finalize. If it takes you that long to think for your Autumn 1902 moves you need to find a new hobby.

In gunboat games the only reason I don't always finalize is if I'm waiting to see if there are any countries who aren't going to do their moves, if I see everyone else hit save or ready, I always hit ready.

just about anything can be used as a tactic in diplomacy, although it might not be effective at all. you could try insist on using the whole phase every turn unless someone does what you want them to do

or you could threaten to wipe someone off the map unless they finalize faster.
