Learning a coding language
So, I am going to start learning a coding language, and I'm considering either C++, Python, Java, or basic HTML (those are the only classes my school offers). Which do you guys think is the most versatile and useful language? I'm a complete newbee when it comes to programming, so any suggestions at all would be great.

First world problems
Post your best "First World Problem" you can think of, i.e., something that you've really let annoy you, but then you realize there are people who are getting their toes blown off by errant land mines planted 40 years ago in Southeast Asia, and you realize your problem is trivial.

Example: I'm so pissed off that as soon as I bought an HD DVD player, the Bluray standard gained traction and now I can't get any new movies on HD DVD.

Holding Rules
I've spent a very long time looking up a specific set of rules. :/ I would really appreciate a diplomacy buff to answer my question.
KingSpillBlood (155 D)
27 Mar 10 UTC

If two units, A and B, decide to use a hold move on each other, will they do so successfully? Or do they reduce themselves to a hold force of one?

Also, if the two units A and B are holding each other, and a third unit C, is chosen to support hold A, and a fourth unit, D, decides to hold B, is the hold force of A and B increased to three?

Thanks in advance for your time.

To avoid confusion, you should say "support hold" instead of "hold."

In your first case, each unit will have a defense of 2.

In your second case, A and B each have a defense of 3.

Thank you very much. That made my recent decision a lot easier. :D

Do you happen to know where in the rules this is, off the top of your head?

http://www.diplom.org/~diparch/resources/rulebooks/2000AH4th.pdf

Case 1 is covered on page 7, 1st bullet point under "Supporting a Unit."

Glad to hear it. Just remember, support holds can be cut.
KingSpillBlood (155 D)

What defensive strength does A have when...

A support-attacks with B, and C support-holds A. I think that according to the FAQ, it would be a defensive strength of 2, but the support-attack of course would be cut.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Again your phrasing is a bit unclear (to me at lest). You should say:

A attacks with B support or B attacks with A support.

If B is the the one attacking and A is supporting the attack then:

A has a defense of 2 and B has an attack of 2. Again, if C is hit, then A has a defense of 1.

If A is attacking with the support of B then:

A has an attack of 2 and a defense of 1. C's support hold is not considered.
KingSpillBlood (155 D)

I meant to say that A is supporting B's attack. ^^

Ty again, this has very much expanded my tactic spellbook. :D It's going to take a while getting used to this idea, I've played so casually and ignorantly for a very long time.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
27 Mar 10 UTC
Yes, if C is support holding A and A is supporting B to move somewhere, A has a defensive strength of 2, but if it is hit then it's support of B is cut. Unless of course the unit hitting A is the one that A is supporting a move against in which case support is not cut.

You haven't hit the tough stuff like when trieste attacks venice, but trieste is attacked by 2 from italy, but austria attacks trieste (to backfill) with three. That all ends in one giant bounce.
fortknox (2059 D)
27 Mar 10 UTC
(the 3 into trieste is the winner, but since austria can't displace his own unit, so they all bounce)

@ KingSpillBlood: "I've spent a very long time looking up a specific set of rules..."

I don't mean to be a troll, but just out of interest, where were you looking?

I just tried typing "diplomacy rules" into google, and the first result was a site which has the rules of the game for you to read.

I think he meant a specific set of circumstances in the rules, not the specific edition of the rules, Jamie.

Ancient World - Isauria cannot move to Miletus?
22417 is the game ID. 2 turns in a row I've ordered Isauria to Miletus, assuming I'd merely forgotten the first time and thus being particularly careful the second time. However, the Army in Isauria REFUSES to move to Miletus. I am confused.
