Why do we even need another social network site? I'm a college student, and there's no way anybody is going to switch over to this from Facebook. I don't even know how people knew there were parties before Facebook came along.

My guess is that this will be social networking for professionals. The name sure sounds like meaningless corporate cant. It's a stupid name, but I have a feeling Google's trying to make a more grown-up networking site without the preconceptions of Facebook or worse yet MySpace.

The name suggest they're trying to tap into exactly that market, which while clear inaccessible is surely worth a try.

I keep being greeted by an invitation to sign my life away to Buzz when I open my gmail accounts, hence my drawing attention to this. Okay, to be more accurate, I get greeted once on each account and when I decline the invitation (Not Now) I am left alone.

But how does Google think they can displace Linkedin if they are aiming at the older, more corporate types.

I hope we don't see a Google Brats up next for kids... iPad, Buzz... I wish I could get paid to come up with these tags. Perhaps I better copyright 'Brats' while I can, and maybe 'iBizz' while I'm at it.

Oh, and iBoss too. I have to write an app for that one.

re Buzz. Further my earlier comment, having had a quick look round I don't think its after LinkedIn etc, more the facebook/twitter options.

I doubt Buzz will ever be able to compete with Linkedin - and I agree that it's pretty annoying

I kinda like Buzz for the short amount of time I've used it.

It seems to be a bit more complete than twitter, and integrated with gmail wich is a huge plus in my book, but not the massive "I just don't know what the hell is going on here anymore"-"takes ages to load in my office computer"-"have so many notices I want to tear my eyes out" that Facebook is.

If it builds on its simplicity with a few features, it could be a great thing.

Regarding the name, is Facebook a good name, at all? and Twitter? This sites make the name for themselves, and Buzz, while not a great name, is good enough.

Also, webdiplomacy now has a buzz (from the moderators account) directly linked to Twitter posts.

When I first met the word buzz, it was in the form 'buzz off', as a child. I now find it hard to disassociate the word buzz from the phrasal verb because of that.

Facebook was a good choice for a name: it pretty much summed up the original idea for the site with personal pictures and text...

I really believe that as a latecomer to the party, Google will find their choice of name a failure.
