World Map Games
Just out of curiousity, what is the requirement of a 'seasoned player' to be able to access the variant and different time settings?

Question about a pet peeve
I've got a question about a pet peeve of mine regarding automatic disbands when a player has no supply centers... forgive me if this one's been done to death, but I need to vent my spleen.

Having played or playing a few games on goondip and a couple on here I have to say British Columbia, Frozen, and Russia are of first rank and Europe, South Africa, and Oz are of bottom rank.
BC has the best position with Western Russia unable to launch an attack and the North board end it's basically a corner power with access to many neutrals and is in a good alliance position.
US is good too if it can group up
Quebec is a ok position but, if BC knocks then it's a losing battle
Europe is hopeless only UK as a neutral Russia it's natural enemy can knock Europe flat, Africa will be tied up too.
Ghana, Kenya, and Libya are all in strong postions most likily to triple ally.
China and W Russia will fight
Frozen WILL gain all of the continent it's pretty much hopeless for South Africa to resist.
South Africa is in a bad position to fight either Frozen and(!)/or Kenya
Brazil and Argentina must fight or ally within the first year no time to ponder.
Oz is open to attack from Frozen, can't conquer it only deter him while Indonesia is taken with fleets in the north...
Russia is in a good position with Ukr and Sca easy SCs sort of a Germany
Middle East will be hard to a lot really with it's awkard shape. It does have Turkey going for it and no one really wants to fight it.

Also I've noticed that South Africa attracks attacks from Argentina quite often.

Interesting analysis airborne.
I think this brings up one of the issues with a 16 player game. The 7 player game is not tactically balanced, but once everyone understands this the game is fair because they take that into consideration. The issue with world map is that players won't understand the slight details, and as such the game is unlikely to be balanced.

airborne, would you possibly have win percentages for this variant?

I disagree about Frozen always taking over the Antarctica continent. In the game I was playing, Argentina and Australia were working together to take out South africa and Frozen, and were winning.

An exception to the rule. Frozen must not be a truely horrible or very unlucky diplomat

I played Libya on goondip. It feels somewhat like Austria. You can build fleets in all centers but it's hard to gain control over the seas. On land however, it has a very defensible position.

Airborne, you forget India. In a goondip game India got bigger and bigger, mainly because no one spent attention to him. I do think India has a good position on the world map, fairly easy to defend and expand.

The key to winning any World map is ofcourse fleet dominance. With armies you can conquer and hold a continent but not much more. Fleets and convoys are the keys to dominate the globe.

A strange feature on the map in my opinion in central-Asia, with a lot of territories but no centers. Makes any advance or defense really hard.

i was thinking the same thing.

i also don't like the country name "Pacific Russia" it's too confusing. and why not call "Near East" the sultanate or caliphate or something. just some mini gripes!

I'm not a fan of local (my local = argentinian) art at all, but I saw a movie yesterday that I think is really great.

Considering the now huge thread which was supposed to be about an article but is now about politics , I thought I'd create a thread specifically for politics. Feel free to be as rude and unreasoned as you wish, but informed debate is also welcomed.

Darwinism and it's relation to criminal science
So I'm writing a paper on this subject, and I wanted to get some other opinions on the subject. basically the case *for* the idea that darwinism has effected the criminal justice system is that you do not punish the person for their actions, but simply give them therapy to help them (i.e. no death penalty, ect). Supposedly that is a bad thing. I was wondering if you guys had any evidence against the idea/for the idea or if you all simply think it's ridiculous. no debates please.
