hold the horses, i thought that a unit couldn't cut the support of a unit supporting an attack on that unit ("that unit" being kiel in this case)???? therefore kiel is taken, berlin is safe?

I think in this case as KIEL is moving out the only support that can be cut is the support from BER. If KIEL were supporting MUN attacking BER it would be a stand off? (As MUN cuts supppport from BER)?

What baron von weber describes is correct. In the scenario he describes no units would be dislodged as Mun cuts Ber and Den cuts Kie.

However if KIEL support MUN to BER, and KIEL is supported by RUHR, an attack from BER supported by DEN, (or an attack from DEN supported by BER) can not succeed, and BER will be taken. Correct?

the other two possible outcomes are:
Ber > Kiel (denmark supporting)
Kiel > Ber (Munich supporting)

Result: Bounce 2 vs 2 (not supports cut)

Den > Kiel (Ber supporting)
Mun > Ber (Kiel supporting)

Result: 2 bounces, 1 vs 1 as both supports were cut.

The original being
Den > Kiel (Ber supporting)
Kiel > Ber (Mun supporting)

Kiel take Ber (with the successful support from Mun)
Den takes Kiel (unopposed because Kiel is now in Berlin) - the fact that Kiel doesn't usually cut the support from Berlin is immaterial - and the rules also stipulate that a unit which is forced to retreat can have no effect on the territory is was attacked from, in this case meaning Berlins support is cut. (and Denmark enters Kiel with a strenght of 1, so could have been bounced out by a single unit in ruhr.)

yes, those are all correct.

Ruhr S Kiel H
Den S Ber > Kiel (fails 2vs2)
or
Ber S Den > Kiel (fails 2vs1 Ruhr plus Kiel versus Denmark, as Berlon's support is cut by munich)

On the second scenario: Kiel support Mun to Ber, Ruhr support Kiel to hold and Ber suppport Den to Kiel, nothing will happen, because Den cuts Kiel support for Mun to move to Ber.

So, just another case where you should use a simple rule: if you have a unit which support can be cut (Kie) and another unit with a guaranteed support (Mun), always move the first one (if possible of course).
