Numbre of New Games
When I go to the "New Games" section, it says that there is (at the moment) 17 games in there. But I can only see 10 of those! When I click to the second page (using the arrows on the right downmost edge of the site) I am redirected to the "search" tab.
Maybe a bug that you could take care for whenever you find the time to do so ;-)

"Live Game"
If I can get another 6 people to post interest in a live game in the next, say, 30 minutes, I'll make one; bet 5, 10-15 minute turns.

Supporting Holds
Okay, so I'm a little confused here as to why a particular order to hold failed. An army that fails in its attack remains in its province. Does it not therefore count as holding (and thus eligible for support)???

Possible issue?
Sorry if this has been previously reported, but when I go to look for a 'joinable' game, the tab indicates approx. ~100 games, but the actual results listing is empty ("No active games with open slots on the server.
"). Am I doing something wrong, or is this a side effect of the recent upgrade?

Can't unpause game. HELP needed!
I'm talking about the game titled "Worldomination" which you can find @ http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=11843.
"Crazypenguin" is the last one that needs to unpause it but he claims that he pressed the "Unpause" button, yet nothing happened.
Could someone provide some help in unpausing this game?
Thank You in advance.

Private Messaging Feature... What is the point?
We talk to each other privately inside games.

As the site now seems to keep available all messages ever sent, and all posts, I am not sure I would want to send a truly private message through here anyway...

How else would we contact people we weren't in games with, and to make sure they received it? This is a great feature.
sort of a social networking element?

I agree PM is a great feature
Geofram (130 D(B))

I agree. There are several players that I've tried to make plans to play future games with and before this system was implemented, you either had to do it publicly here or through e-mail, which not everyone posted in their profile.

If you're worried about privacy in your messages, then the content of your messages is probably still best suited for e-mail and not webDip.

Great for contacting people who have their email hidden too, I'd say. Also great when you'd like to draw someone's attention to a forum thread, say organizing an invite only game.

Not to take attention away from the messages, but shouldn't game updates be at the top, not messages?

Chrispminis (916 D)

It's an excellent feature. One of the ulterior motives is that mods now have an easier way of contacting players, especially since many e-mails were fake or not checked.

I don't think it's good enough to support inquiries for mods, so I think the shared e-mail will still stand for that purpose. It's hard to say where this update puts the shared e-mail situation. =/

What are the little envelopes next to user names?
flashman (2274 D(G))
23 Jul 09 UTC
I am distinctly shy of all social networking tools. I have no desire for or use for such additions. I will consider this feature PM to be one of the bells and whistles of the new version.
Chrispminis (916 D)
23 Jul 09 UTC
The envelopes in the forum mean that it's an unread forum post.

@flashman,

social network tools are not only for social network, another great feature is it's like a electronic phone book, email address book, and photo album. It's a great way to keep track of people's birthdays, events, and invite people to weddings.

@I am just odd I suppose, but I like to limit contacts to systems and situations where I am in complete control. For example, I have a distinct distaste for pop-ups and flashing alerts. I check my e-mail when it is convenient and do not wish to be disturbed. I don't particularly like to see private messages on screen either as soon as I enter to play games. My e-mail is in the profile, if anyone wishes to contact me they can: I regularly check and respond.

Those of you who seem to have sent me messages, thanks but they will not be replied to, not now or ever. If the message was important: e-mail.

It is not a matter for discussion. And, as an indication of how strongly I feel, I would point out that I do not own or use a mobile phone.

@Chrisp...

I still do not understand the envelopes in here. I have read the messages above but they still have envelopes...
Xapi (194 D)
23 Jul 09 UTC
I think that each time you log on, the system checks wich messages are "new" to you, as in, wich messages weren't there the last time you logged off, and puts the envelope in them.

They stay with the envelope until you log off again.
flashman (2274 D(G))
23 Jul 09 UTC
That is, I have to say, pretty pointless. I mean, the messages are open and I do believe I can tell whether I have read them or not...

It would appear that they are one of a number of bells and whistles then.

They are also annoying because they seem to be telling me I have to process a command somewhere to receive something.
Xapi (194 D)
23 Jul 09 UTC
The envelope thing was exactly the same in the last version.

whats an envelope?
flashman (2274 D(G))
24 Jul 09 UTC
But were the envelopes displayed with the user-name in each post in a thread? I just do not remember that at all.
Xapi (194 D)
24 Jul 09 UTC
They were, to the left if I remember correctly.
Xapi (194 D)
24 Jul 09 UTC
I see there is a diffference in this version (or at least something I hadn't noticed before), that there's two types of envelopes.

Greyish envelope means "This post is newer than your last login, but you've already opened it" and blue envelope means "This post is new, you haven't read it before."
flashman (2274 D(G))
24 Jul 09 UTC
I think even the bells here have bells on them.
flashman (2274 D(G))
24 Jul 09 UTC
Can I just make sure we are talking about the same thing here?

The thread titles have envelopes next to them, left hand side;
the individual responses have envelopes next to them, right side with the user name... I am not aware of colour differences, but my eyes are not exactly hawk-rated.
flashman (2274 D(G))

Alderian (2425 D(S))
24 Jul 09 UTC
Xapi, thanks for pointing out the difference between the blue and gray envelopes. I hadn't noticed. Helps a lot when trying to see what I've read and what I haven't.

It might be nicer if instead of a color difference one icon was a closed envelope and the other was an open envelope though. I know there are some folks here that have different levels of color blindness.

question about the rules
Suppose an army in Rumania is attacking Galicia, and happens to get attacked itself from Serbia. Will the army in Rumania fall, since it technically isn't defending itself? Any comments on the matter would be great.

0.9 thread too full, or at least for me
The original 0.9 thread cuts off mid way through a post.

My question is: Kestas, are we no longer able to review the textual version of orders from completed turns? Not only to check for an occasional possible error but to see exactly what our opponents, and allies, have done?

Feature removed?
One of the things I really liked about the last version were the little tabs across the top of every page that showed every game you either had new messages in, or hadn't finalized orders in. I'm not seeing that anywhere in 0.90 except as a list on the home page. Are there any plans to bring it back? It's the one thing I find I'm missing about the new version so far. The ability to toggle through all my active games without having to skip back to the games or home page was wonderful.
