Releasing players' messages in finished games.
Is it possible to read the messages among the players in games that have finished already?

Reading other people's games, as well as reviewing your own games, is a good way to improve. Since the key of the game is the negotiations among the players, being able to review players' messages in finished games should be instructional.

Ther ei snothign about how long you have to hold a supply centre before it becomes a nations. other territories have change colour completely. Also if one moves out of an occupied but not changed colour territory will to remain neutral or still become the nations that has taken it?

Game has been paused for more than a week
Can a moderator please unpause the only game I'm in. It was paused because of multis but the issue has been settled. Only now the losing countries won't vote for an unpause. Anything you can do about this, I would really like to continue playing.

definite meta, probable multi account as well
in the game http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=11497&msgCountry=Global 3 of the players are in 3 games together and two are together in a 4th. It is mostly the two that are in 4 together that I think are multi, as one is a new account playing 5 games total. they also have identical log on times

Eureka
I just had an idea, tell me what you think.
texasdeluxe (516 D(B))

So after joining a game (worth 50 daggers) and having Germany not even put in a move, I was thinking, 'wouldn't it be a great idea if anyone with under 100 points can only use a small amount (say 20) of daggers to start or join games!'

Anyone with over 100 daggers (having at least won 1 game) can use all their daggers of course.

Probably not the right forum for this, but opinions anyone?

I'm just finding there are a lot of new accounts that join a game and then leave. I'm trying to be a bit more picky with my games but there are a limited number to join.

You can start games using small amounts of points. (Daggers? Who calls them daggers?)

If you select 'start game' you can choose how many points it costs to join the game - I think you can set it as low as 5, never mind 20.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
11 Jun 09 UTC
Oh sorry, I misunderstood your original idea. You mean that inexperienced players should be limited to only joining games with a 20 point buy-in or less, and that they should not be allowed to join higher-points games than this EVEN if they have enough (D) to do so? Hmmm, an interesting idea....
Draugnar (0 DX)
11 Jun 09 UTC
Why do you have to have won. I've never completely abandoned a position, have drawn a number of games (my draw to loss ratio is reasonably ok), but have never solod here. Does that mean after as many games as I have played I can't start a game with all my daggers or join one that will take all of them? That is what you are proposing. And having over 100 daggers means you survived one PPSC game with enough SCs to bring your total to over 100. I was over 100 once and lost a large buy-in WTA to bring me back down.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

Since when are they called 'daggers'?

I thought they were called 'points'.

Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

'D' for Diplomacy, surely?
Draugnar (0 DX)
11 Jun 09 UTC
It's kind of an unofficial thing, Jamie. sometime back we had discussions about naming them being as they had the D and Kestas had never officially named them. Lots of ideas went around from Diploons (based on Dubloons) to Daggers to Diplodollars and Diplors and all kinds of names. Daggers just seemed to stick.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
11 Jun 09 UTC
I like 'Dubloons', never mind 'Diploons'. Very piratey. I shall be calling them Dubloons from now on. Yaharr, shiver me timbers!
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
11 Jun 09 UTC
@Draugnar: "Kestas had never officially named them"

Well technically if you read this section of the help pages:

http://phpdiplomacy.net/points.php

...it's pretty clear 'Points' is the official name.

diplos?
There was something on the forum about this a long time ago....
Draugnar (0 DX)
11 Jun 09 UTC
OK, yeah, but why give them a D? If they are points, put a P after them. We just ran with the D symbol and came up with a name and Kestas hasn't complained. It's unofficial on our part.
jbalcorn (429 D)
11 Jun 09 UTC
diplos sounds like people who play diplomacy. I prefer either the generic 'Diplomacy Points' and it's shortened form 'Points', or Diplodollars, or even just "Ds". Diploons has some appeal, but it just doesn't feel right.
Draugnar (0 DX)
11 Jun 09 UTC
As long as you call them points or something with a capital D I think everyone will no what you are talking about. <grin>

How many Diplofools does it take to join a game? None cause Diplofool has been banned and can't join any games!

OK, I should stop. He can't defend himself now (not that he ever really could). Geez this is like writing a Doctorate's Thesis on Airplanes and Aerodynamics!

aoe3rules (949 D)

This would be pretty good, actually. We could replace the rule that WTAs must be over 100 points (which got really ironic for me a few days ago, when I joined a game called "All or nothing" and it was PPSC).

dangermouse, we never will, because it's just too much fun being on the [dead, smelly] horse.

Jamiet: everyone calls them daggers. Get with the programme.

A plea for etiquette
Folks, if you are going to take over a forlorn hope CD position of a centre or two, please do something with it. Don't just take it over, decide it really is as forlorn as it looked, and then enter no orders - it just slows down the whole game for the other players as we wait a full turn for exactly the same result as the original CD. In 72 hour games, this hurts.

Ok so I have worked out that the little red x and green tick means that orders have been finalised by that player.

What happens if a player enters orders but does not finalise? Are his orders carried out?
