LandMark Education
Has anyone here taken the Landmark Forum or gone all the way through the curriculum. I just finished the Advanced Course this weekend and I think Landmark is pretty much the best thing since sliced bread... just wanted to see if others have done the education too?

Myer Briggs - Is there a personality suited to diplomacy?
Just wondering whether people have figured out their Myer Briggs personalitys (http://www.personalitypathways.com/type_inventory.html) and whether there are more of a certain type which do well at diplomacy.
Biddis (364 D)
31 May 09 UTC
I'm INFJ, not sure if that makes me good at dip or not, INFJ's often bad at lying and take critism/arguments badly lol so maybe not
ISTP- I'm "more interested in understanding the world than running it". That doesn't seem to fit very nicely..does it?

ENFP - same as Bill Clinton. Nuff said.

It's hard to say. Definitely you should be able to deal with various personalities.

I don't really put much stock into Myer-Briggs or any similar test. I find that they oversimplify things by forcing people into categories I think are arbitrary, and amount to little more than telling you what you told the test.

"Oh do you like alone time? Guess what, that means you're introverted, and this means that you like your alone time."

"Well thanks test."

Haven't done Myer Briggs, but have done the DiSC. I'm an i with a string D (intuitive with a strong decisive). Basically it means I run on gut instinct, can be emotional, but make up my mind quickly, stick with it, and expect others to do the same.
Draugnar (0 DX)

oops "strong" I always typo that one...
LanGaidin (1509 D)

It's weird, but my Myers-Briggs came back NUTS; I couldn't even find the legend on the test for that one. I've got to PUBMED it I think, must be some little known categorization.
Biddis (364 D)
01 Jun 09 UTC
@Chris - yeah i don't think the tests aare good at all, they are way too simplified but most people can figure out what catagory suits them better i.e. Introverted/extroverted. I just figure it out myself without doin the tests
Ukla (390 D)
01 Jun 09 UTC
You know..
The really ironic thing about these tests is that your reaction to it has a lot to do with your categorization. What I mean is that how you view the test, itself, is pretty fairly related to what you would score on it. Astrology is like this, too. Being an Aquarius, I see the truth in the astrology of all the signs, even if you don't think you represent your sign. Some signs are much more inclined to think the whole thing hogwash. Same with the Myers-Briggs and all the other tests. If you answer honestly, it does represent a large portion of who you are, but that also will reflect how you feel about the test results.
Anyway, INTP, here. (And Aquarius, and Tiger, if you like the Chinese astrology.)

We did these tests as part of a training course at work last week. I am an ENFJ.

spyman (424 D(G))

That's funny. Very true, Ghostmaker. I tend to be more of an extrovert, myself, when drunk, and more of an introvert when hungover.
Pete U (293 D)
01 Jun 09 UTC
I *think* I'm ISTP.

@ Ukla - that's why I think astrology is hogwash.

I found it to be a useful way of understanding how other people think, as well as getting an insight into why some people like Dali, and others don't....
figlesquidge (2131 D)
01 Jun 09 UTC
I N T J according to those lists.

Oh and astrology is brilliant. Not that I agree with it, but have you tried talking to someone who truly believe in it - priceless!
I knew someone who would thank you for emptying everything out her bag because her horoscope said something bad would happen and she felt once it had happened she was safe from the worse things :P

Bits of gas and rock floating in space having an effect on our lives and personality? Yes, priceless.
Draugnar (0 DX)
01 Jun 09 UTC
There can be an argument made for the Earth's relative position to the sun based on the observed position of this bits and pieces of rock. I mean, personalities are affected by season, but whether or not you are born in winter or summer having an effect? I seriously doubt it (and I'm an Aquarius too).
Pete U (293 D)
01 Jun 09 UTC
Actually, personality affected by season isn't such a reach - there are studies showing different attainment levels at school driven by birthdate, so perhaps the environment has a broad brush impact.

It's the (supposed) predictive nature of Astrology that's the real priceless part
Jacob (2711 D)

INTP - the last one was the hardest for me to decide - I might really be a J.

Further work by Keirsey based on Myers and drawing on others, e.g. in Please Understand Me 2(http://www.amazon.co.uk/Please-Understand-ME-D-Keirsey/dp/1885705026), suggests that Diplomacy is one of four types of "intelligence" (the others being Tactics, Strategy and Logistics).

My MBTI type of INTJ equates to Keirsey Rational temperament type and is, supposed best at Strategy and least good at Logistics and Diplomacy.

I would have thought that all four are useful in this game and so everyone has a different approach but an equal chance.

Come on! INTP and only just off INTJ like Jacob and Figle! Now if only I could win some games...
Biddis (364 D)
01 Jun 09 UTC
Yeah looks like INTJ or INTP are the winners to me, plus i know someone else who plays whos an INTP.

Must be the mainly logical, constantly looking at facts and practical solutions, unconcerned with emotions and takes critism and confrontation well. Sounds perfectly suited to dip to me, prob why i suck at it lol

I wonder why these types help. Here's my view:
Introverted: Extraverted people are quite in touch with the people around them. This is not so useful in dip where these people around you are trying to convince you to act against your own interests.
Intuitive: Related to the future which presumably increases your ability to predict other's actions. Also comfortable with ambiguity which is the most you are going to get from some of these players.
Thinking: Able to take a detached view about press/position, and also accepting conflict as a natural course.
Judging and Percieving being equal: Able to make general plans and then discard them when necessary.

hmm i'm not keen on belbin, im often a few of them, mostly completer-finisher though
I'm ISTP. Does that help or hinder?

I'm also absent minded 'cos I'm sure I posted this here yesterday but it isn't here now.

I'm an ENTJ at least I have been every time I've taken the test. I'm not sure how it does or doesn't effect my diplomacy playing.
jbalcorn (429 D)
02 Jun 09 UTC
If I remember correctly, I'm an ENTP. Very strong E and P, weak N and T.

The E is obvious, if you've ever played with me. I tend to fill up the global chat :-)
LanGaidin (1509 D)
02 Jun 09 UTC
ISTJ here; very strong I and T; but having kids has probably brought me a bit closer to the F. I guess I would be categorized as an expressive introvert, if there is such a thing.

whatever personality is ruthless, but seems like a great friend/ally at the same time is the best at diplomacy
Babak (26982 D(B))

ENFP - Champion (based on Kiersey)

the test is not a 'personality test'... its a 'temprament test' which is your default position - not what you always act like. we all act according to context. and the test also does not take into account other things like IQ, EQ, or things like 'determination' and 'fatalism'.

I do believe the test however is a very accurate measure of how people will behave in aggregate.

there is a website that a friend once showed me (dont have it now) which described each personality type as relates to gaming - particularly diplomacy - dunno if i'd find it now - I guess I could google it but just dont have time... its was remarkable in showing how your temperament type plays games in general.

Babak, do you mean the types of Diplomacy players? Club Player, Classicist, etc. ?
Babak (26982 D(B))
03 Jun 09 UTC
no - as in how does an ENFP play games... how does an INTJ play games etc. if I recall correctly, there was a very specific statement about how these personality types play Diplomacy as well as games in general.

The game was paused, two new players took over CD countries but haven't logged in to the game since May 22 and haven't issued unpause orders. The players in question (Henry Kissinger and Strike) have also gone CD in most of their other games.

Check Marks and Xs
What do those mean in the game? You can see them next to a player's name on the bottom of the screen. Nothing happens when you click on them, so I imagine they have to do with the status of the player's orders...?

Sorry for such a newbie question.
