Sitter needed
I'm leaving the site for a while, and in my last, I was about to throw my game by suiciding, but it is quite a bad way to do it, and would quite break the balance of the game. Could anyone sit my account until the game is over (I am over, I mean, I'm in no position to hold for very long). Thanks.

should I choose enlisted: army paratroopers/marine corps infantry
I'm leaning towards Marines. My Grandpa and uncle were Marines. Ultimately I am joining for what I hope to accomplish for myself and others, not for them...not tradition for traditions sake. Plus I have such great respect for the Paratroopers, there history and everything about them as well. Any thoughts?

Miscellaneous question re CD or inevitable loss
I have a question of curiosity as a relatively new player (and admittedly already an addict) of Diplomacy. Is it common for players that are about to be eliminated to simply stop putting in orders, thereby having their countries go into civil disorder? When looking at joinable games (in progress), there a lot of CDs out there and I'm simply curious as to whether the game started w/ less than 7 players or if people simply stopped playing once they recognized imminent doom.

If the latter is true, wouldn't that cause a game to bog down and thus be a bit inconsiderate?
Onar (131 D)

It is inconsiderate, but it happens a lot with noobs and tourneyfags who donm't like losing. If you're familiar with online console gaming, think of them as the types who shut off their console when they're about to lose, rather than accept a loss added to their record.

Games that start with less than 7 players have 'Civil Disorder Italy' or 'Civil Disorder Germany' in the spare position.
Anything else will have been a player.

Oh, and 'tourneyfag' isn'
t meant to be offensive, I don't have a better term for it. Look it up sometime, I didn't invent the term.

I've got a rage-quitter in my current game - an England who got the short end of the stick in an R/G vs E/F alliance. Note to self: Next time I sign up for a 72-hour game, make sure nobody quits!
Onar (131 D)
02 Apr 09 UTC
That's a better term for it. 'rage-quitter'
Draugnar (0 DX)

But it is derived from the offensive term... You really could have used a less offensive urban slang for a loozer.

I noticed, but never kenw any other words for it.

Are there repeat offenders? Considering the nature of this game, I'm not sure why people would take it so personally. On a related note; do people hold grudges from one game to the next if they find themselves w/ players that may have knocked them out of another game?

Human nature, of course some people do, but we try our best not to.... at least, I do.

Sometimes, it can't be helped, though.
I know in my early days on this site, I used to go CD a lot...
Mostly because of deadlines, though. Not because I wanted to. Is that looked upon any differently?

With the new release that will some day be done and put in place they are making it so it keeps track of civil disorders. So you can see who does it a lot. (And possibly restrict games to not allow people that have done it a lot over some period of time? I don't know this for sure, just hoping.)

This change should discourage it, except of course for newbies (like me) who try the game, get betrayed, and just quit (not like me.)

Personally, just the sort of person I am, no matter how bad things are, I'll at least turn in hold orders and not hold up the game.

As for betrayals carrying over into new games, there was a post a week or two ago about meta-gaming. You shouldn't hold a grudge from game to game, but hey, everyone's human here (as far as we know.)

Rules on profanity?
Can I pretty much say anything I want into global chat, if I have cause. For example, if Russia and Turkey are juggernauting and being huge douche-bags, can I tell them to go fuck a goat? Can I get more explicit? Like..well..i leave it to your imagination.

Thanks for answering.

Missed 2 turns, not gone CD
Game in question: http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=9752

France has missed 2 turns now, but hasn't gone CD. The only thing I can think of if he must of updated his holds one or both of those times. I don't suppose there's any chance we can get him kicked out and replaced? It's really ruining the balance of the game imo. Is there anything that can be done about it? 'Tis very frustrating.
