Java from phpdiplomacy?
In the past few days, I've noticed that whenever I go to any phpdiplomacy page, java starts to spring out of control on my machine. Does anyone have an idea of what is going on?

How to unpause if a player is AWOL?
In Kosciusko, two players have not unpaused. Neither were the player who requested a pause.
Both have (or had, last time I looked) one or more other games in which they were in Civil Disorder or had not made moves, so I'm assuming they may not be back.
1. How long should the game be left like this, given that neither of the players involved asked for an extended pause?
2. At what point can the game be forced to continue if a player never enters an unpause?

Hi all.
I am new to this site but not new to the game. I had to move recently (economy), so I lost my crew and was hoping to get a game (and a new crew). I was going to take over for one of the civil disorder countries in the current games, but they are all in really bad shape and I'm not quite sure how this point system works yet, so I figured I would try this method. Anyway, I guess I've rambled on long enough.

New Game - 101 buy-in - features ponies and expert post delivery!
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=9936

The Pony Express always delivers, and so should this game. PPSC, 36 hour deadline which allows the busy people that we all are to miss a single day + sleep before/after in case of emergency like ponies rampaging through your house in a frenzy to deliver post messages. Join and enjoy!

The Silent Treatment
Hey, is it common to get the silent treatment from other players during a game? As in, no response to communications sent? Also, is it possible to anonymize the players in a game so that alliances are set up based on the game and not on who you know is playing?

Just a few questions from a new person.

Retirement Announcement
I'm retiring from phpDiplomacy after my last game is completed. I may occasionally visit the Forum, but I won't participate in any more games. There's more to life than this silly game anyway. My only regret is that I even got started in the first place.

Onar (131 D)

Well, What makes you believe 13-year-old girls are so vulnerable? That's a form of prejudice.
Chrispminis (916 D)
02 Apr 09 UTC
Yeah, it's as a mod. I hope that's not a tone of resentment in your question. =(

No, it was a joke in a silly french accent... 'to whom izz zees vee of which you speak'. I know who Chrispminis is.

@Maniac
Criminality is supposed to be based on morality, and is only helpful when so placed. When it strays from this path, it becomes a giant bitch fit between people who want attention, or just feel animosity against someone else. This is one such place. No one took it seriously, and to solicit is to make an effort. To make something happen. Mapleleaf did not try and make diplomat kill himself, just make an offhand comment. This might be an infringment on your comfortability, but most certainly not on morality.
If we put everyone who broke a petty crime through the court system,
A) the court system would be virtually useless, seeing as there are not enough lawyers/ judges to move that many cases very quickly,
B)We would live in a nation of pansies, not able to work out their own problems, and relying on the legal system to do it for them
C)There are many morally minor infringements that carry jail sentences. When going in to jail, a man might not think like a criminal, but after a month, they might. Putting people in jail for minor transgressions actually hurts the nature of society, rather than helps it.
So, if you have a problem with mapleleaf, before you threaten legal action, TALK TO HIM! Even though I don't know him that well, I guarantee you, he does not deserve to be threatened with this legal bullshit for a harmless comment. Just because it is law does not mean it should be upheld. May I remind you, laws have been used to hold some very ugly things in place.
Invictus (240 D)

It isn't even law, not the way he said it was.

I think Maniac's realized he was wrong. Let's leave him alone and let the thread die so diplomat1824 can have some down time before his inevitable, triumphalist return.
Maniac (189 D(B))
02 Apr 09 UTC
@Chrisp - I'm quite happy for discretion and common sense to be employed in the interpretation of the law - I would prefer that that discretion was exercised by the police and or prosecuting authority who will have a raft of experience rather than a layman such as myself who has none.

@everyone - I'm quite prepared to admit that I have over-reacted and accept that mapleleaf and onar were only joking. But sometimes [and I do not believe that this applies here] a 'harmless' joke could be anything but harmless.

@Onar - I didn't say all 13-year-old girls are vunerable, I said Diplomat could be a vunerable 13-year-old girl.

@Invictus - just saying it isn't even the law doesn't really help. If you disagree with my interpretation of the law then feel free to enlighten me.

If anyone wanted to open a separate thread that discusses the issue of encouraging suicide without it getting personal, that would be fine by me. Otherwise, it only remains for me to wish diplomat1824 a happy retirement.
Maniac (189 D(B))
02 Apr 09 UTC
@Savilian - you make some good points particularly about talking to paople about grievences before issueing threats, Henceforward I will strive to take a long walk before responding to posts that I find offensive.

Savlian (100 D)
02 Apr 09 UTC
Maniac, just a quick apology, I was kinda upset at other stuff at the moment I wrote that last one, and it was a bit hypocritical of me. Said some things that might be offensive, but no offense intended.
Maniac (189 D(B))
02 Apr 09 UTC
@Savlian - no apology needed, I wasn't offended at all.
