Cfoss game threat
Just received this message from a Icthys who is playing Turkey in two games("The last patrol" and "Five Dollar Milkshake") I'm in. I asked why he moved against me in one and he replied:
"It is a waste. This is bargaining chip. Back-off me in the other game or I'll eliminate you from this one."
What do I do to get him removed?

Bernanke on 60 Minutes
It was a good interview, a breath of fresh air from the masses of people crying socialism and calling for the gold standard. A lot less of a puff piece than the Greenspan interview

Not sure why this is happening. If I have my speakers on you hear continuous clicks for the page being refreshed over and over.

A bit frustrating...
It seems I always do worse in games where I make an attempt to have actual communication and send messages with some meat in them. It's starting to look like other players only really respond to sound bites, and one or two sentence messages. Any thoughts?
Hereward77 (930 D)
15 Mar 09 UTC
I know exactly what you mean. One word/sentence answers are what I get from two-thirds of players. This seems very strange for a game where building relationships with other players is pivotal.

I must be talking too much! Thanks for telling my why I keep getting hammered. Okay, in a game soon to follow I will try to say as little as possible, and see what happens!

Well, as the Bible seems to say... only say consent or reject, everything else is a bad idea.

I feel your pain.

Personally I endeavor to communicate as much as possible, though I'm afraid of flooding the guy at the other end.

Is it possible that your comunication gives away too much information which is a weakness?
SirBayer (480 D)

I like to see long messages but I tend not to respond with them for a very simple reason: I only need to say a lot once someone's PROVED to me they're trustworthy. Once that's done, then I brainstorm in tandem with them. Then you get long messages.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

@SirBayer,

Does that approach work well for you? I tend to be more willing to work with people that communicate well. Often times, I'll send long messages to people and they won't respond and I then decide to attack them. I see communication as dedication to the game, not as a indication of trustworthiness.
nitish (2087 D(S))

Most of the better players I've played against are fairly communicative. They don't all talk the same amount, but they usually do reply in more than single sentences.

I think my messages are longer than average, but it seems to work reasonably well for me. And other players have allied with me because I respond to their messages in detail, as opposed to another player who ignores them or sends one-word replies. I'm like abgemacht, I guess; if someone doesn't respond much, it makes me more likely to attack them than otherwise.

To SirBayer: That may sometimes be too late. I don't know how long your initial responses typically are, of course, but if I'm Russia and separately send long mesages to Austria and Turkey explaining why I think an alliance would work well, and one responds in detail while the other only says a couple of words, I might ally with the first. The second player doesn't get a chance to see whether I'm trustworthy or not.

personally I tend to flip flop back and forth between quasi-tactical statements that dont even try to be complete sentences and rather verbose (and often gradiose and flowery) rambling messages

my two cents on whether one method hurts you, there is one game i'm in where i'm allied to austria purely to see what the hell he's going to say next
I communicate a lot. It seems to help in all situations.
Ursa (1617 D)

At some point I like to share thoughts, for example while planning with allies or having someone who is completely dependent on your help. Mostly however, my statements are more vague as I treat information carefully. I think regular communication is really nessecary - when a player doesn't respond or only with one or two words or a sentence, it's often a sign of an incoming stab, like the word 'ok'. When you see such a short answer, prepare your defenses!
Onar (131 D)

I can never seem to bring myself to attack someone who talks a lot. They provide me with entertainment. A perfect example of this is the touch varient game I'm in. Austria and i (Italy) formed a near-unbreakable alliance, simply because we kept up good communication from the beginning of the game.
Ursa (1617 D)

I know, I lost contact with Austria for a year and I'm stabbed. I also think you shouldn't talk about ingame things on the forum while the game's still going...

I tend to press a ton, and when I get no answer or very little (less than a sentence), I tend to view that as someone out to get me.
I prefer press and may even tend to trust those that press heavily back to others...
Centurian (3257 D)
16 Mar 09 UTC
Its not hard to have some good positive analysis without making any serious commitments. Just showing you are willing to talk goes a long way (as the comments above seem to indicate).

On the flip side, if I get complete dedication from a sparse talker, i might be inclined to believe it and then use him to take on the more talkative player woh might stab me later.
