Can a draw be cancelled?
Say there are two players. One calls for a draw, but the other goes through with his orders one more time. Can he vote on the draw and pass it after the orders have been processed?

Convoy Rules
If a fleet is convoying an army and is attacked, does the convoy fail? Assume that the attack is by only one naval unit, so it does not win the territory.

Issue with convoy?
The army at London move to Holland via convoy via convoy.
The fleet at North Sea convoy from London to Holland.
Why does it say via convoy TWICE?
Will that affect the result?

Question
Is there any way to resign a game? I joined a game not knowing it would be played under rules I wasn't familiar with. The first set of moves is not yet due, if that makes any difference. The game in question is: http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=8823

A couple of noob questions
Is there any sort of move simulator so I can see how various orders would resolve?

For the specific instance I'm thinking of, if there are fleets in Denmark and Kiel, which (if either) are considered adjacent to Berlin? I think Kiel is but Denmark isn't, but I'm not sure.

Does calling someone a paranoid schizo and a wanker count as personal insults? Some people take this game too seriously, but I feel personally insulted and feel its inappropriate and not family friendly.

A list of who's at war with whom would be a nice thing to have over the Global chat. Someone should keep track and post it every turn, or so.

I want to be at war with myself. Should I declare it??? ;)
fortknox (2059 D)

Here's a question. Suppose france and germany are at war. There are 2 or 3 turns where they aren't attacking each other (lets say germany is focused on russia and france is focused on england). Are they at peace automatically?

Basically, how do we avoid everyone being at war with everyone within a few years? Do things revert back to peace after X many turns without an attack?
Ivo_ivanov (7545 D)
12 Feb 09 UTC
It sounds logical and somehow natural. I would like to leave it up to the players to decide that though. They can agree to peace if they want?
fortknox (2059 D)
12 Feb 09 UTC
I'd say if you make it a year (so 2-3 turns, depending on when you stopped hitting each other) without a 'war' move, you are automatically at peace and have to redeclare war.
stratagos (3269 D(S))
12 Feb 09 UTC
I strongly disagree. I feel if someone wants peace, they should declare it. If the guy on the other side of the border gets complacent and doesn't protect against an invasion, that's his (or her) problem
fortknox (2059 D)
12 Feb 09 UTC
then why not just declare war on everyone from the start and play diplomacy like normal? The idea of this variant is having 24 hour notice of a stab...
fortknox (2059 D)
12 Feb 09 UTC
I mean, you can always redeclare war if the battles stall out for a year... even if you aren't going into battle that next turn.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
12 Feb 09 UTC
Yes, they need to offer and accept peace. Otherwise you are in a state of war.

As to your question fortknox,
"then why not just declare war on everyone from the start and play diplomacy like normal? "

same reason real countries don't just declare war on everyone.
if you've stopped fighting then chances are both sides will want peace anyway, and if one or more don't then they'll end up fighting again soon.
EdiBirsan (1469 D(B))
12 Feb 09 UTC
There is an actual variant called Formal Diplomacy and it works somewhat like what you are saying except that it has:
War- cannot support the units of the party you are at war with (even in a self bounce)
Neutral- you cannot enter a province owned by the other party or dislodge one of his fleets or units, you cannot
Allied- you can support his units, be convoyed by his fleets but you cannot take a supply center from him even if you enter the province.

If you declare war on your ally and you are in his supply centers your units are interined.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
13 Feb 09 UTC
hmmm
that's actually rather different from what we have but of course i should have known there would be someone who had had our idea already
Ivo_ivanov (7545 D)
13 Feb 09 UTC
Hi, yes, Formal DIplomacy definitly sound like a better name for a variant. I guess we didn't know that - and our variant is less complex - no allies/neutrals - just war and peace.

On the 'automatic' peace - I also would prefer it there's no such thing - I will definitely want to have peace with someone I'm not fighting if this will give me protection (from a stab). However, if I'm in the better position I might prefer to keep the WAR status - and if the other party wants me to agree to peace maybe I'll get something else in return? :)
Thucydides (864 D(B))
13 Feb 09 UTC
Exactly, and that's how it works in the real world too

hes going to cd though, and dont anyone read into this but i did remind him he had to declare war before he moved

If he misses the unit-placing phase he would have punished himself anyway. Let's see whether he'll reappear - we might not need to do anything.

Loss by one versus a draw. Does it matter?
What's the point difference between these two?
