It is simply the truth and it has to be appreciated if we are going to perpetuate a free society and pass it on to future generations. We, as Americans, have already made our fair share of critical mistakes in these areas and thankfully, as Adam Smith said, "there is a lot of ruination in a nation," but it is critical that we remain committed to resisting this type of system moving forward and in taking what steps are feasible in order to rectify past mistakes. If we do not and we allow the social system to become the dominant system in America, it will inevitably result in the destruction of our free society.
So, the key issue is not actually an economic one. Of course, socialism is a miserable failure as an economic system, but that is not the critical issue in terms of why we need to oppose it. The larger reason is that it is incompatible with human freedom, regardless of economic considerations.
