Western Meddling in Iranian Protests
So this is great and all. Encouraging protests and stuff. Um didnt this happen in Iran in Arab Spring too? When people start dying were gonna look pretty bad again. Like we encouraged a coup but didnt actually care about the consequences.

I've created a Discord Server to make it easier to coordinate future games and chat about ongoing ones (that allow press). I checked with one of the mods first to make sure it was okay to set up. Here's the link: https://discord.gg/5WpVw29

@Jamiet,
I was just saying that I doubted whether anyone on the forum was a Nazi, as DO claimed and that for the claim to hold any weight, it would have to be made clear who the comment was referring to.

@Jeff,
Well, that is basically a myth. TEFRA 82 was formulated as a compromise agreement with the Democrats in exchange for further spending cuts. Overall, it took back less than a third of the '81 tax cut. The other tax increases were very small and/or localized. Taxes were then cut again in the '86 tax act.

Capitalism made the phone or computer you use to play this game.
Capitalism expanded this internet you play the game over.
Capitalism developed the medicine and medical instruments that heal people.
Capitalism made the car you drive, the home you live in, the bus you use.
Capitalism pays the taxes that governments use to support social systems.
Without capitalism we will still live in huts against the wall of a castle or in tiny villages in fear of maurading armies or wild anmals or disease and pestilence.

Market economies are great for the reasons you stated CAPT Brad, but they are also responsible more than anything else for the erosion of cultural tradition. It's not all rosy. We're obviously better off for having them than not though.

The greatest falsehood that is often made regarding socialism (aside from the absurd notion put forward by it's advocates that it has only failed due to it not being implemented properly) is that it is a worthy concept that unfortunately does not work in practice. Nothing could be further from the truth. The social system is a disgraceful and immoral concept, inimical to a free society and akin to economic slavery. It is imperative that we do not oppose the social economic system simply due to its practical failings. We must oppose the introduction of a system of enslavement on the grounds that it is incompatible with human freedom. To be sure, rejection of the social system is not a sufficient condition in order to perpetuate a free society, but make no mistake, it is absolutely a necessary condition.

@ghug,
It is simply the truth and it has to be appreciated if we are going to perpetuate a free society and pass it on to future generations. We, as Americans, have already made our fair share of critical mistakes in these areas and thankfully, as Adam Smith said, "there is a lot of ruination in a nation," but it is critical that we remain committed to resisting this type of system moving forward and in taking what steps are feasible in order to rectify past mistakes. If we do not and we allow the social system to become the dominant system in America, it will inevitably result in the destruction of our free society.

So, the key issue is not actually an economic one. Of course, socialism is a miserable failure as an economic system, but that is not the critical issue in terms of why we need to oppose it. The larger reason is that it is incompatible with human freedom, regardless of economic considerations.

Was 2017 the Nazi-est Year in U.S. Political History?

Ok. Craziest. For those with an interest in history, here are the picks for top crazy years by real historians.

The "social system" is a shadow of what it formerly was during the Great Society era. Paleocons want to destroy it completely so we can return to the days where private corporations have all the power to force individuals to do their bidding with no recourse to the law.

No chance 2017 tops 1861-1865, 1941-1945, or 1963 at a minimum.

If we start seeing indictments in 2018 I'll listen to that, but 2017 wasn't actually earthshaking in terms of major events... It just felt like it because the political climate is so tense.
I think we are close to some real crazy times though, that's very fair to claim. The ball just hasn't dropped yet.

2017 is the craziest year in at least 40 years. Anyone GenX and younger (most of the world) didn't experience anything worse. And most Millennials are too self-absorbed to care.

As long as WW3 doesn't happen, society should be able to handle the shocks that come across with a huge generation maturing.
