I heard people use the term mansplaining recently. It was negatively stigmatized but what does it even mean? Also I head people saying something about manscaping and I wondered if that was a type of yard work. Any input is appreciated.

Now that I've gotten everybody's attention, would anybody be interested in playing a game of American Empire where everybody plays as the region that they are from? I think that might be kinda fun and could be a way to release some of this clearly geographical tension that is brewing in the forums.
I'd have to claim NY

Go right ahead.

And see almost zero impact to the death rates.

Or impose a semi intelligent test. We require everyone who wants to drive to take a test. Because driving a car is a dangerous for the driver and for others. Yet we refuse to consider doing something similar with guns...why? If an hour or two hour test and evaluation was done on gun buyers just like with drivers, and was proven effective at preventing gun crime...would you be open to it?

"And see almost zero impact to the death rates."

Oh hey, KB is clairvoyant now too, because who needs "Facts and stuff" when you just state a random uneducated guess on possible future events.
Kansas, sure there are other issues to be addressed, but it is clear that among them, gun ownership is one. So why not help it?

If a person has a broken arm, you can't just say let's not treat it because they have a broken toe as well. Same logic applies to the issue of gun prevalence and suicide.

"Anytime someone is killed it is tragedy, and writing them off as a small part of a larger problem is just disgusting. "

Or it is understanding the realities of the world and that bad things happen in the world if you like it or not.

"But any solution has a better chance of success then trying nothing"

Any solution other than trying to better enforce the current laws and restrictions.

Cause why would we do that when we can instead get on our soapboxes and feel superior beating our chests are crying for more laws and restrictions that the criminals will just continue to ignore.

"Oh hey, KB is clairvoyant now too, because who needs "Facts and stuff" when you just state a random uneducated guess on possible future events. "

Or you could learn from history and understand that the prior assault gun ban had almost zero impact on gun death rates.

Sure.

As long as you are open to understand the reality is that test will have very little actual impact on gun deaths.

But hey let's all feel better about ourselves because we passed some meaningless laws that put extra burden on responsible people who will rarely, rarely, rarely ever cause harm with the gun.

You're so full of bullshit made up facts that it's hilarious. You claim to *know* that no new measures taken can have any chance of helping with the very real problem that the US suffers though alone compared to the rest of the 1st world countries.

I'm sorry you don't understand, but given your recent forum interactions and hissy fits in the SoW game, I suspect you don't actually care and are just looking to waste everyone's time. This conversation is considered resolved.

"You're so full of bullshit made up facts that it's hilarious. You claim to *know* that no new measures taken can have any chance of helping with the very real problem that the US suffers though alone compared to the rest of the 1st world countries. "

I didn't make up the facts about the period there was an assault gun ban in this country. Sorry you can't read the facts previously provided and source notated.
"If a person has a broken arm, you can't say lats put a cast on everyone's arm"

I mean if the alternative to mild discomfort is people dying....I'd be fine with it.

"Great. Ban large capacity magazines too."

Cook County Illinois and Chicago (which is a part of Cook County) have in place a ban on large capacity magazines.

Chicago had more murders in 2016 than New York and LA combined.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/chicago-murders-shootings-2016-more-than-new-york-city-los-angeles-combined/

But that is just more of my bullshit made up facts.
KansasBoyd (25 D X)

"I mean if the alternative to mild discomfort is people dying....I'd be fine with it. "

So you jump from a broken arm to people dying??

That is quite the leap in logic.
KansasBoyd (25 D X)

"I mean if the alternative to mild discomfort is people dying....I'd be fine with it. "

People are dying from cancer everyday.

So please let me know when you will start your chemotherapy since you are fine with that.
I mean, it's more apt to the actual problem, people dying due to guns. After all your point is that regulations are annoying to people who want guns, but like, okay, I'm fine with that if fewer people are dying.
Like you are strawmanning the actual argument at play with worse and worse analogies for the situation at hand, mine was at least somewhat on point.
KansasBoyd (25 D X)

But the studies and facts from the past regulations (not made up bullshit facts) are that an increase in the regulations have little to no impact on gun deaths. I am not sure why that keeps getting ignored.

Just like the REAL gun homicide problem is, the gangs.

Let's hear your proposal to deal with that reality since you think that more regulations (that gangs will continue to ignore like they are ignoring the current regulations).
MajorMitchell (1033 D)

That example of the regulation of the use of motor vee~hickles is a good one jmo.. The licensing requirements. And then the training and Licensing standards are higher for semi trailer trucks / road trains compared to licensing requirements for drivers of ordinary motor cars.
Then there's the training and Licensing requirements for aeroplane pilots..with the different classifications.
So the different standards for ordinary cars, then large trucks, then different classes of aeroplane are avoid example of how different risks..the different potential severity of outcomes in crashes has influenced regulations.
@Flashy..I regret it if my request for your suggestions on how to deal with gun crimes more effectively came across as a provocative challenge.. I am genuinely interested in what you might suggest given your armies impressive credentials.
I recently might have read briefing documents on responses to the threats posed by single/multiple shooters at places of mass gatherings issued by the national body tasked with "that job"
I won't go into details, but essentially they ( may have ) outlined four stages..Preparation, Prevention, Response & Recovery.
This is a type of internet forum of a chat room, so for obvious reasons I won't say yes I definitely read this or that & won't go into specific details.
As for my vitriolic critic, if he's asking, my response to him is "I have nothing to do with security"... But that may, or may not be entirely truthful, and that reflects my total lack of belief in his trustworthiness.
MajorMitchell (1033 D)
17 Nov 17 UTC
Typo.. So the different standards.....then different classes of aeroplane are avoid example.. Should be..aeroplane are a good example...

So as usual, a whole lot of words to say absolutely nothing.

James Brown wrote a song about clowns like this guy.

It’s called “Talking Loud and Saying Nothing”

Good luck to you Mr Loud and Wrong.

Flashy, just as I suspected. A whole lot of whiny and crying about “bullshit made up facts” from sources like the FBI and CDC but no countervfacts and certainly no suggestions on how to get the guns out of the gangs possession other than by magic.

26 people murdered by two attacked wielding knives and nothing else in japan. Kids killed parents with chopsticks. No guns makes us more creative. Boo yah!
MajorMitchell (1033 D)
17 Nov 17 UTC
Well I think jmo might have been suggesting something that is a bit more sophisticated than what you are willing to contemplate KB.
I will make the suggestion.. Because it's based on the way gun licensing in Australia works. Citizens here can own guns, but to own a gun the citizen has to pass the tests of fitness to own a firearm, and the type of firearm is controlled..the type of firearm has to be suited to the intended use.
So I am suggesting that the right to own firearms should not be a right to own any type and multiple types of firearms without restrictions.
A sophisticated system of gun licensing might help solve what appears to be an intractable problem in the USA.
Applicants for gun licenses, once having passed the fitness to have firearms tests, have to nominate their intended uses..eg deer and pig shooting..for each intended use there is a selected range of appropriate firearm types and the approved license holder can own the approved number of firearms of those types that are deemed fit for the particular purpose(s)

Just like we don't let someone with an "ordinary motor vee~hickle" license drive a road train, or the pilot with a license to fly a single piston engine aeroplane fly a Boeing 767.
KansasBoyd (25 D X)
17 Nov 17 UTC
So there are just as many auto deaths as gun deaths in the US every year despite testing and far more auto deaths than non gang related homicides.

And still no one has come up with a plan to deal with the biggest gun homicide problem. Gangs.

Just the same brainwashed group think ideas that I have shown conclusions by the CDC and FBI that agree will make almost zero actual impact.

Heck the current background checks and restrictions aren’t working but typical liberal attitude. More more more instead of better better better.
Can you cite your sources again Kansas? Specifically the ones about gun deaths and regulation, not what acts comprise gun deaths.
KansasBoyd (25 D X)

Go back and read please.
Or you could just post them so people are able to have an easy reference point for continuing the conversation.
KansasBoyd (25 D X)

I did post them.

If you didn't read them the first time, why should I go to the effort to post them again?
It makes it so anyone reading from here on who wishes to join the conversation has an easy way to access the arguments without having to read 87 posts
KansasBoyd (25 D X)
17 Nov 17 UTC
Without reading the previous 87 posts, how are you going to know what the conversation is?

Seriously, how lazy are you?
MajorMitchell (1033 D)
17 Nov 17 UTC
I think you are, yet again, misrepresenting those who disagree with you. ( your Liberals = more more more, not better better better fallacy ) I'll try and keep it simple.
1_Support for sensible, effective gun control laws and their proper enforcement does NOT equal "must be a Liberal"
2 Sensible, effective gun control laws that are properly enforced DO WORK WELL. That's been proven in several countries, not just in Australia.
Is that just too difficult for you to understand ? Not sure I can "dumb it down" much more.

Finally the situation in the USA is a damning demonstration that what your country has been doing, and more importantly NOT DOING, is clearly NOT WORKING.
Yet you advocate "more of the same" lack of effective regulation and non enforcement.
To keep repeating a failed strategy and expect a different result is generally regarded as monumentally stupid.

You falsely claim I have not offered any suggestions.. Duh.. Try understanding this, put as simply as I can.

Introduce sensible, effective gun control laws and enforce them properly.

Complement that with things like a National Firearms data base, increase the responsibilities of gun manufacturers and suppliers. Prohibit/ Control effectively the manufacture, distribution and ownership of weapons for which civilians have no legitimate use eg AR 15 etc. Limit the supply of weapons suited/required for military / Police use to just those users. Control and secure Military and Police "arsenals" more effectively. There are a range of ways to reduce the numbers of illegal / unregistered guns..Amnesties that allow weapons to be surrendered.. They do actually work. That's one example.
Put simply..study what works around the world and implement. Stop being dumbass pawns for the vested interests of gun manufacturers.

In the modern map, there's a territory named Bhm. Sea. What does that stand for? I always assumed Bohemian Sea though that doesn't exist (and the sea isn't close to Bohemia). Perhaps it is Bornholm Sea (after the Danish island in the Baltic in that area)?
