Is the premise "all men are created equal" necessary for a Western republic?
See above. I have thoughts on this but will save them for a little while later.

Please be mindful of the additional etiquette requests I am making in the next post.

Another idea: we should have a mentee showcase game a while after things get going where the mentees show off what they’ve learned.
Love this idea, thanks to DO and CB for all their hard work on this project. and not only thanks, but I signed up.

Hey Yoyo, we're definitely going to look into things like that after this kicks off more.

**we will always need more mentors so seriously if you're in the top 50 you should really sign up
CommanderByron (569 D Mod (S))
15 Nov 17 UTC
Just an update / bump for the thread:
we are currently over 25 applicants in on the apprentice side, and 17 in on the mentor side. Excellent numbers that are very scale-able. Please keep applying. Especially new players. Don't be afraid to get involved in the community and don't think you aren't good enough for this because this is a program meant to help you get good.
Could we do a peer review program as well? I'm not a noob but I don't think my tactics are really all that great, so a maybe mid-level review system could be put in place to help us middle of the road folks out?
Durga (786 D)
15 Nov 17 UTC
There is actually a middle system. Sign up and you'll get a mentor with a really high gr. This isn't just for noobs
CommanderByron (569 D Mod (S))
15 Nov 17 UTC
Absolutely correct I wouldn’t paint myself as a noob (been playing for about 5 years now) but I will absolutely be taking advantage of this. :)

Uh, do I come here for help?
I haven't used these forums in forever. This is certainly an exciting new initiative though. Loved this game since high school. :) I signed up to be a mentor, but I don't have a ghost rating it seems. However things turn out, hope people have a lot of fun with this program!
How and when will we be notified of the pairings?
CommanderByron (569 D Mod (S))
16 Nov 17 UTC
(+3)
When is a bit tricky; we are working on the pairings and with the volume this first round will be a bit longer than subsequent applications.
However stay tuned for PMs when we are all set and ready to rolllll in the meantime please feel free to +1 all of mine and DOs posts so we can have lots more +1s .

:) they make us work faster.

Would any of the mentees especially be keen to start a group chat in a more accessable program like discord or Google chat or something to hash out ideas with each other? We'd have to work around not talking to people in the same game so we don't accidentally meta, but it could be fun.

PS- sorry DO!!! Definitely meant thanks DO and CB. :)

This is a fantastic idea. Thanks for setting this up. I've signed up as a mentee. My first thought was that it would be good to do both, but though I was eligible in October, my November GR fell too far. I'm TAing School of War right now anyway, so maybe next month. (Actually... come to think of it, November games aren't going all that well either. ;-) )

Oh, and asking about fluency in languages is a fantastic idea!
SkiingCougar (544 D)

I'm in the middle of everyone, I could quite easily become an apprentice but I'd rather players like Hellfire Missile (someone respond to him please) got the mentors over me.
SkiingCougar (544 D)

That being said, awesome idea and thanks and gl to CAB and DO for their contribution to making the site even better

What happens if your mentor falls out of the top 200?
Durga (786 D)
17 Nov 17 UTC
Ogion, shouldn't really be a problem but if someone feels like they can't learn anything new from their mentor they can request a new one (request has to be reasonable and substantiated)

could be possible take pupils in my own language? (spanish)
Claesar (690 D Mod)
17 Nov 17 UTC
There was a field to mention what languages you can tutor in. If you entered only Spanish, then you will only receive mentees that speak your own language.

Hey Smokey, I hear you. For me, it's my end game. I have difficulty in pulling the trigger at the right time to run for a solo. I am either just a turn too early or a turn too late.

Underrepresented minority groups.
I think that when people have been singing the praises of both vanilla and strawberry milkshakes, the truly greatest milkshakes have fallen to the wayside. Chocolate-Peanut butter shakes are the best and you all need to see the error of your ways.

Anyone available to cancel a game?
I don't know the protocol or how often this happens, but the site crashed, and now Silent Partners-3 is back up, some countries' moves processed and others didn't. I watch all the games in this series (I have set up the games). I hope we're not expected to continue under conditions like these, but i'm open to however people usually handle this.

When a country that has gone into civil disorder is taken over by a new player in anon mode, is there a global message telling the rest of the group that the country has a new owner?

Resulting Fallacy
This article is about decision making in poker, but I think it equally applies to Diplomacy and well lots of other things too. I think a lot of players, including myself, fall into this trap of believing everything that works was a good decision and everything that doesn't was a bad one.

Brainstorming on getting more no-press live classic games
Arg! We had 6 for a no-press (i.e. no-chat) live game tonight, no cigar. And there haven't been a lot of no-press Many years ago, my FTF Dip crew had a similar problem ... some wanted and had time for no-press, others didn't, so we couldn't get 7 ... and we came up with a neat solution, which I'll share in a minute. But first ... anyone have advice on how we drum up support for a live no-press game?

Oklahoma was cursed ever since it was stolen from the Native Americans. All the 'white' and 'brown' and 'black' and 'asian' folks (and any other non-native folks) should pack up and leave to texas or some place else and give it back. What say you?
