Remove Discussion phase on the forum as a variant
The reason I want a forum without the discussion is because we already have a lot of threads, most being about steephies company, and punching shit, and I find the extra time it takes to mute them all a bit excessive.

Liberals are even worse than conservatives
The left should be focused on abolishing nationhood and class. Not microaggressions and compromises like minimum wage.

Yellen Speaks on Friday
Is our low inflation transitory or not? Is Yellen in touch with advancements in monetary policy? Is this exactly what the protocols of the elders of Zion predicted??? (Probably)

All that and more coming out of the one place on earth you associate with global banking: Jackson Hole, Wyoming

American Empire IV map - another move question
I move a fleet from Arctic Ocean into Nunavut. Can I then move from Nunavut to Manitoba. (There doesn't appear to be any coastal restrictions in Nunavut but I wanted to be sure before I committed to the move - Thanks

Remove Diplomacy phase as a variant
The reason I want a variant without the diplomacy phase is because we already have very long phases, most being a day, and I find the extra diplomacy time is a bit excessive.

How to start the game without it canceling
So I've been waiting for five days with six players to start a game, and as soon as it starts, I refresh and it says it's been canceled. Says I did not reach the limit of seven players. How do we actually start playing, after the waiting period is over?

Question about moves in game - Fall of the American Empire IV
Sorry for being a newbie, but as a fan of Diplomacy, I was really happy to find this site. My questions about movement - Is there an app or software so you can set up these variant maps locally and model moves/situations? Immediate question for my current game: On the Fall of the American Empire IV map, can I move a fleet from Manawut to Ungawa?

I'm reluctant to accuse anyone of multi-account shenanigans or outside communication, but something seems a bit amiss in this game. It's full gunboat, no messaging at all, but somehow one player just convoyed another player's army across the North Sea.That's a hell of a guess.

Civil Disorder?
What does it mean when a player goes into civil disorder? Obviously happens when they don't play a turn, but does anything happen or is it just to notify the group that the player missed a turn?
CommanderByron (801 D(S))

Pretty much they missed 2 turns in a row, their position is now open for an outside player to take over. Most of the time the position doesn't get taken over, and the player stops playing.

The country will hold all moves, retreats will disband, forced disbands will happen based on the furthest from home centers then alphabetical order: standard rules for someone not submitting orders. (I'm not 100% on how the forced disbands are implemented on webdip).
TiconderogaHB (100 D)

Also that country's units will now hold (not mutually support or anything) and will disband upon dislodgement instead of retreating.

Stupid follow up question, but can the original player pick the position up again?

As I don't typically NMR (I hesitate to say never as that's a very long time) I'm curious to know.

I didn't set any movements because I wanted to be CDed. But I couldn't. Can we leave from a game?
Claesar (4665 D)

@DD: Yes, they can. I've done it. But it's first come, first serve.

@Yavuzovic: You can email the mods at [email protected] to ask to be replaced. Not sure if they always honour that request. It may help if you have a replacement lined up yourself.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
24 Aug 17 UTC
@Dippy, unless someone else takes over (which requires a password for passworded games, and a points investment) you are still listed as the player and can freely enter orders to take your country out of Civil Disorder.

@yavuzovic leaving mid game is considered rather rude, and thus not supported. You can find a replacement for yourself and then either CD, or ask a mod to kick you from the game and put your replacement in. If you login and look at the board each year i'm not sure it will CD you... But you have to miss two turns in a row before civil disorder kicks in.
Claesar (4665 D)

@Orathaic: I believe all CD take-overs are now free. Even for passworded games.

Wait i can get free points by taking over CDs? Expected gain from them is always positive if there is no cost... Why doesn't everyone do this??
Claesar (4665 D)
24 Aug 17 UTC
Yes, free points. And even better, take-overs are automatically unranked (for Ghost Rating), so you can't lose there either. All of this was done to encourage people filling up these spots.

And a lot of people do. Why wouldn't you? It costs time, but only that.
dargorygel (2679 DMod(G))
24 Aug 17 UTC
... and while this might not discourage some people, usually when players CD it is NOT because their board position is so excellent. CD takeovers are usually difficult spots.

Yeah, but successfully take a difficult spot to a draw and you're golden :)
MajorMitchell (1605 D)

That's a generalisation Dargargoyle and often, but not always true. I've deliberately gone CD and left games despite being in a good position because of a betrayal. I'd actually like a "quit" option along with draw and cancel, so I can effect a quicker exit.

There are other examples where players suddenly have real world problems and want to leave a game

I think what the OP meant was, what happens to the populace when it goes into CD. Do they starve? Do taxes go up? Does Boromir stage a genocide on all Urug's? Theres many questions about what happens when a leader forgets to submit orders.

Second Opinion on company name
Hey guys,
My company is called Broad Expert and someone recently asked me if a native English speaker would initially associate Broad with 'wide' in a literal sense, rather than the intended association with a broad expertise. The question of whether the name is proper use of English was also brought up.
Thoughts?
