Dislodgement question
I'm normally pretty good with rules questions myself but this one has me going back and forth.

Suppose, hypothetically, I'm France with fleets MAO, Bre, and Por. Italy has fleets Spa, WMS, and NAf. England has fleets ECh and NAO.

England orders NAO to MAO with ECh support. Italy moves Spa to MAO with Naf and WMS support. I use Bre and Por to support NAO to MAO.

Neither England nor Italy needs my support to dislodge. So Would this result in: Italy wins 3v2 because I can't support my dislodgment, England wins 4v3 because supporting a successful attack is not sufficient to prevent dislodgement, or beleaguered garrison because I bolster the English attack but cannot dislodge myself?

You can't dislodge your own units. Italy wins the attack.
Ogion (3817 D)

Wow, that's a tough one

France isn't dislodging himself, he is strengthing his beleaugerment.

Case A) Say he only added one support, and he had no unit there, it would bounce. Case B) So if he has a unit there, Italy wins and his unit is dislodged?
Case C) same as B, but with two supports, no french unit in MAO, England clearly wins
Case D) now with a unit there, those supports are void, so Italy dislodges him?

I wouldn't say that it doesn't make sense so it can't be right, because not all the mechanics make sense

I'd think you can't dislodge yourself, but you can beleager yurself, but that's a hunch. Any rules to bring to this?
ghug (5068 D(B))

I believe Ogion is correct. See test case 6.E.12.

http://web.inter.nl.net/users/L.B.Kruijswijk/#6.E.12

Makes sense 2WL would be wrong since he doesn't enter orders.

It`s an easier answer if you take out a microscope and zoom in on all the actual little sailors on those Bre and Por fleets. They apply just enough firepower in support of the English flleet move to MAO to repel and boumce back the Italian fleet move to MAO, but those little French sailors are obviously careful not to target or dislodge their their own French fleet.

Thus, the French fleet in MAO is not dislodged.
Deeply_Dippy (458 D)

I disagree. 6E12 allows for dislodgement by Italy to be prevented. However, the further support that would allow dislodgement by England contravenes the self-dislodgement rule. As such it is of no effect.

The correct result is that no units move.

Whether the site mechanics can handle that is another matter.

Seems that you actually "agree", DD.
groza528 (518 D)

Reading the responses, I agree the beleaguered garrison makes the most sense.

So now that the season has passed, this is the situation that raised this seemingly absurd question. Look at the board position going into autumn 06: http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=203429

I (France) can attack Edit from Lvp or Nth. So if Russia is working with England to defend, suppose he uses Hel S Edi-Nth to block the attack from Nth, and also Nwy & Den S Nwg-Nth to a) cut support, b) Prevent Edi from actually succeeding to Nth and c) Attempt to capture Nth. This blocks both obvious attacks on Edi.
So I considered the clever attack of Lon & ECh S Edi-Nth while Nth flees somewhere. This allows Lvp to walk into Edi *if* the season plays out as expected. I was hoping to also use Nth to cut Helgo just in case he attacked Holland (which he did) but didn't want that to prevent England from succeeding to Nth.

In the end England didn't submit orders so it all came to nothing but I was just curious how it would have played out.

Sorry @chluke, I'll clarify.

I disagree with 2WL and Ogion didn't actually give an answer, so I kinda disagree with him too.

I therefore have to disagree with Ghug, as he's agreeing with Ogion's non-committal response.

I agree with your outcome but not your whole rationale.

Does that make sense?

Glad we cleared that up.

I've decided to appease the centrists. Instead of punching nazis, we'll murder them by drone with no due process.

Why couldn't I move?
Hey I was playing Italy in this game. I tried to have my fleet convoy my army in Tuscany to Smyrna. Neither were being attacked or blocked, but I was unable to make this move. Why? Here's the link to the map: http://webdiplomacy.net/map.php?gameID=203295&turn=9&mapType=large
