On punching nazis
I've decided to appease the centrists. Instead of punching nazis, we'll murder them by drone with no due process.

It's okay to punch Nazis
I purport that it is perfectly ok to beat up the following types of people:

- Nazis - Neo-Nazis - KKK members - David Duke - White Supremacists -

Trialing the upcoming new forum system
The new forum system is up and running, and we're ready to let users onto it to test it as we transition to it from this forum.

Probably best if you respond there rather than here, but I guess it doesn't matter:

Nazi march in America?
Someone with the Twitter handle @JuliusGoat just dropped one of the best Twitter threads in history, about the white supremacist/Nazi march in Charlottesville.

Hey I was playing Italy in this game. I tried to have my fleet convoy my army in Tuscany to Smyrna. Neither were being attacked or blocked, but I was unable to make this move. Why? Here's the link to the map: http://webdiplomacy.net/map.php?gameID=203295&turn=9&mapType=large

I just want to take a minute to thank ghug for his time as a moderator. During his time on the team he personally handled some landmine cases extremely well. He did a fantastic job of catching multi's. And on at least 1 occasion during my development time helped me out when adding a new feature went badly, saving the site from some rather lengthy downtime.

Out of all the mods the site has gone through over the years, he's easily been one of the best and I'm sorry to see him go.

Thanks again for donating as much time as you did to the site.

May be a private or touchy question; is the mod team having a retention issue? Or is it just bad timing?
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
12 Aug 17 UTC
If the first case have you diagnosed why? In most situations of retention it is a matter of work load or management. I doubt Zultar is that bad of a boss so possibly the site just needs more mods.

If the second option than damn that's some bad luck. My restaurant just went through a period where we lost our entire cooking staff and had to run the store with 3 managers and no cooks. (Anyone who works food knows how insane that feels)

There's a difference between admin and mod, internally to the mod team. It's a privalleges thing, admins have access to more trusted tools, and are more "on call" for site issues.

The team obviously feels that Bo is one of the most trustworthy users on the site.
A_Tin_Can (2234 D)

When I was on the team, Bo was an extremely dedicated mod, with a fast turnaround on inbox cases. He can't play diplomacy for shit, but you can't have everything.

Wow what's the reason my favourite mods are all quitting :(
VillageIdiot (7813 D)
12 Aug 17 UTC
You can only trick them with notions of babes, prestige, and non-monetary perks for so long before they wise up. I imagine it's a fun notion getting to look behind the curtain until you realize all you discover are a bunch of monkeys flinging poop around.

Don't put that into the recruitment ads though, we need our steady stream of monkeys to keep this ship afloat.

There are definitely misconceptions about what it means to be a mod. For starters, when we announce new ones, people say "congratulations" instead of "condolences"

A sad but true story of UK business. In the world of British banking not so long ago, the unions had such power that sacking people was virtually impossible regardless of how incompetent they might be. The only way of getting them out of positions where they could cause problems was to promote them to something safe and out of harm's way.

Not sure what made me think of that...

In all seriousness, great choice of admin. Many thanks to ghug for completing his thankless task.

In all honesty, I like Ghug and he did a reasonable job. Thanks for your efforts, Ghuggles. I hope you have a happy retirement. I've heard the Mod pension is a bit stingy these days. Maybe you could volunteer one of your other accounts to be a Mod for a few months and then claim the retirement income from thst one too.

Ghug, Zultar, and I talked about whether we should lock Jamie's thread, we decided he should, he locked it and immediately announced he was leaving.

Interpret that how you want.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
12 Aug 17 UTC
Locking it really wasn't necessary, it was the first type of self deprecating spam the forum ever had. It would have been fun to see how many threads before people got bored of the per post time cool-down.

I assume all mods take the gig so they can go peak at the full chat logs of their game from two years ago and finally have the satisfaction of knowing once and for all that the fucker Germany truly did lie about ratting on him to Italy even though he swore all the way through to the end that he didn't.

.. and then they hold onto the position for a respectable half year because, you know, appearances, right?

(Ghug told me he's going to be writing a tell-all book in his retirement)
Yoyoyozo (95 D)
13 Aug 17 UTC
@VillageIdiot

That's about right. I tried to leave the next day but they had fooled me into signing an 8 month contract. I suppose I should count myself lucky. Poor ghug was written into a 3 year agreement and bo was forced to become an admin. More about that in ghug's tell-all, illustrated by Yoyo. Coming this winter.

It's not a typo Octavious, I've been turned down more times than all the beds at the Holiday Inn. I think by 2108 the then site owners and mods will have run out of other options and thaw my cryogenically frozen self and make me Mod.
