Steaks Diplomacy Game
Would anyone be interested in a -whoever wins grills- steaks diplomacy game? The notion is that we'd all have a potluck some amount of roasted veggies on a grill, and some ribeyes. We go to a ftf party, then get naked.

Stakes Diplomacy Game
Would anyone be interested in a tent stakes diplomacy game? The notion is that we'd all chicken-wire together some tarps into a tent sitting in the backyard of a trusted party, and fasten it to the ground with tent stakes. The pay-out is that if you solo, everybody else has to sleep out in it at the end of the game, with Krellin visiting the tent to wake y'all up every morning.

Just a thought
I just had a thought on a game where you can't support any of your moves (including support holds). I was thinking this would encourage alliances more and just make for an interesting game

For anyone who's interested here's the info gameID=204910

Has there been an actual WW1 simulation/approximation of Diplomacy?
Meaning orders & outcomes that best represent the events of WW1, which I assume would result in some sort of draw in the end, beginning either 1901 or 1914? I'm sure it's been done, but I'm a curious newbie.

Would anyone be interested in a cash stakes diplomacy game? The notion is that we'd all wire some amount of money to a trusted party, who would pay it out according to DSS at the end of the game.

What do you all think about Faustian stories?
Diplomacy is a great playground for turning on friends for personal advantage, and I'm pretty sure everybody might compromise their held virtues for a little harmless gain in most places of their lives. Do you all think Faustian narratives are on point the more we all trod into the great 21st century, or is the devil obsolete and unversed in the digital age?

"New Game" page needs correction.
When creating a game and selecting the pre-phase length, the description says up to 5 days but the dropdown gives only up to 2.5 days.

Leaving the grey arrow
Is there any bigger asshole than the guy who's doomed to defeat and puts in his moves with a grey arrow so that everyone has to wait a day or more each phase? Of course everyone goes out of town sometimes or is unable to get to the site for some reason, but someone who does it faithfully every turn should be banned. It's the behavior of a crybaby.

You're never doomed to defeat until you have 0 centers.

It can be annoying, especially if they're doing it out of spite, but having everyone ready up is the exception, not the rule. If you join a game with 1 day phases, you should generally expect the phases to last 1 day.

It's the equivalent of holding up in a fortified position and waiting out the siege of your attacker, purely strategic. Were those who died at the Alamo assholes for not leaving the missionary and dying sooner?

If you really want a game to be fast, then create a game with fast deadlines. There is never an obligation to 'ready up', never. And there are hundreds of reasons to not ready up, waiting for a message, real life, travel, etc., etc. If it bothers you, then always join fast games.

Saving orders is the only way to ensure that you don't miss a deadline (IMO).

Moaning about the strategic use of saved orders sounds like the actions if a cry baby (again IMO).
Smokey Gem (154 D)

Ahhh so if you grey your orders they go in as your orders if the deadline hits and you haven't fully readied up....I never knew that...it explians some of the spectacular failures I have had trying to take advantage of non ready orders..

Use a faster game phase dead Roose or Ramsay..

People in desperate situations may need more time to convince enemies to seitch sides...

Plus you signed up fot a game with a certain phase lenght.

As long as the person is entering orders Im ok with not finalizing, although it is annoying when a person only saves retreat and build orders in gunboats, particularly when they're NMRing move phases.

Trip is right, as is the OP -- at leas to some extent. I think the problem is the whole "butt hurt" mindset it displays. Or, that last dying "fuck you!" to the game. The problem is, the game is about kicking the shit out of each other, and slow-playing the process is hacking -- especially when its a simple retreat/destroy order.

Forced disbands should be automatic. As should forced retreats (1 option)

i also think players should have to pass a prescreening before being allowed to play :-)

question 1: do you realize this is NOT a pure war game ... and you have to communicate with others
Arrows?
Isn't it a "tick"?
orathaic (1009 D(B))

@Michael B, there are no forced retreats, you always have a choice of retreat or disband.

So only forced disbands...

And the counter arguement is you don't want to confuse players by having things happen automatically sometimes.

Having more options would be nice though, like 24/25 hour phases during weekdays, with automatic breaks for the weekend. Or pre-set pauses for the holidays.

You could have games where everyone agrees to pause during the week and play 30 minute phases during the weekend (or for 6 hours two days per week).

There are many variations i can think of, including skype-based games. But expecting players to ready up when you don't like waiting around... Just play more or faster games. Get used to it. Offer that person on their last gasp a decent deal and use them to help you win... Many many options other than whinging on the forums about it.

I agree with OP if there is no path to victory. If there is nothing but a forced disband or a forced retreat in Autumn to a non-SC... just ready up. Anything else is childish.
Ogion (3817 D)

I don't think that's what he was talking about. He's talking about when you're losing badly.

I've soloed from two centers and no home centers, and I'm sure folks have soloed from one around here. so, yeah, you're not defeated until you're at 0
