HOW TO PLAY THIS
The instructions did not mention this scenario: If you attack a province that someone occupies, but that someone is moving their unit in that select province to a different province that is unoccupied, their move cancels and they have to defend their province which is being attacked right? I know this to be true based on my own experiences, but I wanted to confirm.

Private game replacement rules
I've been told by a deadbeat admin that is losing a private game that he has the ability to pick any replacement he wants and he asked someone who I'd rather slit my wrists than play with. There's a reason I play passworded games and I think there should be a rule where you need the consent of people in your private game before picking a replacement.

Opportunit cost? This assumes some kind of zero sum game, which the economy is most seriously not.

Total economic activity depends on several things, including calories available for workers to consume, and power production harnassed for work - whether that means harnassing animals to pull plows and till the land, or burning oil to power machines (purely physical factors).

But it also depends on psychological factors, look at the impact of the space program, or the fear of nuclear war. Some people got very angry about any construction work happening under the looming threat of nuclear war (in the early 50s) because all building was seen as pointless if it would just be destroyed. This kinds of psychological factors - when having an impact on a whole nation - can't help but impact productivity and total economic activity. The space program on ther other hand gave a nation, and perhaps even the world, hope. Inspired a generation to believe in the future and in advancing technology. Again these psychological factors drove the economy forward.

In more mundane examples, investor confidence directly affects stock market prices, housing prices, and decisions made by corporations. If there is no confidence that a corp can sell items at a price they can profit from, they may shutdown production. Examples pf the great depression and the 2008 financial crash are perfect ilustrations of the knock on effect of losing confidence in an economy.

So i believe the promise of a clean safe fusion dream could promote more economic activity than not doing so. The opportunity cost of not investing in such an ambitious project may be immeasurable. Specifically because other projects don't inspire people.

Nevermind the fact that governments don't overly care about opportunity costs. (Although the international team currently working on fusion in france - ITER - has a lot of investment from world governments - mostly european - i actually think they've put all their eggs in one basket, which is a risky approach. You can still invest with throwing all the money at one project).

Also a project like ITER is expected to cost in the region of $20 billion, over a 35 year period. That is less than half a billion per year, for the US with a federal budget measured in the Trillion, this is not a large amount. But instead they have considered cutting funding to ITER - which currently stands at ~$150 million per year, the rest being paid by Japan, Russia, China, South Korea, India and mostly the EU.

Now i still contend the €20 billion for projects like this could be spent on multiple smaller projects, the 80s saw the start of ITER with a US/USSR collaboration (which included Japan and the EU) and i'd much prefer to have seen the finding go to the 3-10 most successful designs for fusion energy (there are some laser ignition facilities trying fusion right now, which use a completely different method).

Of course building any mini-sun is rather odd, consider we already have Sol itself, and i'm sure any solar power advocates would say, this whole fusion malarky is a waste of time... But there you see industry taking up the challenge and investing in manufacturing solar panels. So we'll see if the cost of investing in fusion compared with the cost invested in solar in 2035; or if private industry (with public subsidy) can out perform government R&D.

If we can fork out a trillion dollars for a giant play toy for insecure military people, we can afford $20billion 50 times over to solve all humanity's energy problems I'd say

Oh look. Global fossil fuel subsidies come to $5 trillion a year
We could pave the earth in gold plated solar and batteries for that kind of money

Anyone want to seriously suggest fossil fuels are cost competitive anymore? No?

Didn't think so.

Playing with less than 7 players
I'm just starting a game to play with a few friends of mine, and because there will only be four or five of us, I was wondering if the game would actually start if we only had 4 players, or if it would just cancel and refund our bets. If it does cancel, is there a way for us to play a game on here with only the four of us?

Why aren't my games available?
I am new to both Diplomacy and this site and I am currently in 2 games. One as France and one as Germany. But the turn timer rolled over and when I came back to view what happened the France game, it wasn't in my game list. What happened?

If details help, it had classic in the name, started in 1901, the game turn rolled over at 2:35pm and it was anonymous players.

Joinable Games
Currently the Games window shows that there are 101 Joinable Games. However, when I select the Joinable Games tab I find only 3. There are supposedly 11 pages worth but anything after the first page is empty.

Can anyone explain this discrepancy to me?

Beginner question regarding the capture of supply centers
I thought I might find the answer to this somewhere in FAQ, but alas I could not. So, my question is: if an army/fleet moves into a territory with a supply center during the Spring, then moves out during the Fall, is that center considered yours?

Why was my support move blocked here?
http://webdiplomacy.net/map.php?gameID=201965&turn=11&mapType=large
I'm kind of a noob so this might be a dumb question.
I'm playing as France. The relevant bit is the move the army at Kiel support move to Denmark from Heligoland Bight. This fails because of Germany's move to Kiel from Munich, but Munich can't move there since it's being dislodged. Shouldn't my support move work since the Munich army is being attacked?

I think I'll go to London from 6-10 August..
.. and perhaps longer if I can find a cheap place to stay or it's too fun to leave. I know that some of my webdip friends (and other webdippers probably) are from London, so if anyone wants to message me to see if we can meet up, exchange tips or even let me stay at your place for a while, please feel free! I'd love to meet some of you in person.
