Why was my support move blocked here?
http://webdiplomacy.net/map.php?gameID=201965&turn=11&mapType=large
I'm kind of a noob so this might be a dumb question.
I'm playing as France. The relevant bit is the move the army at Kiel support move to Denmark from Heligoland Bight. This fails because of Germany's move to Kiel from Munich, but Munich can't move there since it's being dislodged. Shouldn't my support move work since the Munich army is being attacked?

I think I'll go to London from 6-10 August..
.. and perhaps longer if I can find a cheap place to stay or it's too fun to leave. I know that some of my webdip friends (and other webdippers probably) are from London, so if anyone wants to message me to see if we can meet up, exchange tips or even let me stay at your place for a while, please feel free! I'd love to meet some of you in person.

What do you all make of this? Apparently he doesn't drink or I'd suggest he was drunk. Definitely un-presidential.

It's just as silly to think all lawyers have the same values, motives, principles & ethics as it is to think all military forces share the same "right wing, shoot em up" agenda.

@brainbomb The individual military person is not doing what they do for the money. "

Cough bullshit cough

yes, bb, you are full of bullshit. it wasn't for the money, honey. most who start are making minimum wage salaries. mine started off at less than $1,000.00 permonth

and $1,000.00 permonth was very little money. that was gross pay, then there were taxes etal. take home just above $600.

Given how pathetic the minimum wage is in the USA and the lack of opportunity for the lower socio economic groups in the USA, the military is an economically attractive career choice, with health benefits etc, plus the career opportunities after military service. You're delusional Capt Brad if you think that there is not de facto economic conscription in the USA.. Look at where the military recruiters target their efforts..it isn't at Harvard or Yale for ordinary enlistment

He's also full of shit as he was in the navy, got free healthcare, got to travel for free, free meals, free housing, GI BILL, and never had to be anywhere close to a combat zone at any risk to himself. Next hes gonna tell us he was defending our freedom peeling potatoes in the hull of a ice jammer.

Here is a fun fact since we're talking about the military.

Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain spent more time serving in the armed forces than all of Donald Trump's family, combined.
Bladerunners (1019 D)
29 Jul 17 UTC
I'm no Trump fan - but why do you have to have served in the military as a prerequisite to being a good president?
brainbomb (295 D)
29 Jul 17 UTC
Why does serving in the military automatically mean you did it out of fear your country was in danger
JamesYanik (548 D)

@bb

http://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2011/10/05/war-and-sacrifice-in-the-post-911-era/

the number one reason, that 90% of people cited for joining the military, was serving their country. there are other factors, but that's the number 1
brainbomb (295 D)

Serving your country is a completely empty nationalist diatribe. You can serve your country by not milking an overblown military industrial cash cow for a bunch of benefits too. Be a cop. Be a doctor. Be a vet. Be a mechanic. Those all serve their country withoit costing taxpayers anything
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

I'm fairly sure the police are paid for at least partly via taxation, Brainbomb.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

Or, I dunno, is your policing system funded the same stupid way you fund healthcare? Do people have to buy their own "law enforcement insurance" to entitle them to be protected by the police?
brainbomb (295 D)
29 Jul 17 UTC
Thats state taxes and city taxes. The military is not actually paid for if yer a huge libertarian. Its a borrowed army. China technically owns our military and financed two wars fir us.
Ogion (3817 D)
29 Jul 17 UTC
Mm, you are the only one talking about "all" anything. However, I don't think there is much evidencece for the suggestion that military personnel are a bastion of progressive, liberal, enlightenment values.

What I object to is the irrational hagiography of the military. We have two holidays for the military and precisely zero for the arts, sciences, humanities, teachers or any other group who do the real work of advancing human civilization. What does that tell you about how fucked up American culture is?
brainbomb (295 D)
29 Jul 17 UTC
Yanik os what yoi call a cherry picker libertarian. His family member is in the military so he doesnt rationally debate military spending or if theres even a need for so much military personnel and millions of bases all over the world. All he sees is "freedom"
JamesYanik (548 D)
29 Jul 17 UTC
did Ogion just combine progressive and enlightenment? because that's a bowl full of shit

and Brain, I DESPERATELY want military bases to be phase out over seas, i do NOT WANT America to be militarily relevant with hundreds of bases world wide in countries, many of which are our allies. i want military spending to be cut drastically, my number one concern for a while now has been getting the budget deficit under control.
JamesYanik (548 D)

Yanik, then stop pretending like people join the military because its so important to protect us. Were literally protecting random ass bases in remote holes on jupiter at this point.
CAPT Brad (40 DX)

the jobs like a cop get benefits from the government, brain. other employers provided those things. i was not eligible for the GI Bill. i never used a VA loan. and most members of the military are healthy young people who don't need much health care. oh yes and 'travel the world' while your family is home. oh and getting shot at. sailing the the persian gulf during the iran-iraq war a ship like mine was attacked by a 'friendly' iraqi exocet missile, killing 32 sailors. bomb STFU boy.
brainbomb (295 D)
29 Jul 17 UTC
Okay paw.

*hands brad a potato peeler*

"Did ya hear about dat ship?"

"Yea they died defending our freedon"

"It sounds like they died for no reason"

"What reason?"

"So we can come back here again in 12 years and fight them again!"

"Why?"

"Because theyll have nukes by then!"

"What if they dont?"

"Freedom baby. Freedom..we gotta save america"
Ogion (3817 D)

When was the last time anyone launched an attack that the military was even remotely prepared to address? 1941

"One can lead a child to knowledge but one cannot make him think. What is the moral difference, if any, between the soldier and the civilian?"
"The difference lies in the field of civic virtue. A soldier accepts personal responsibility for the safety of the body politic of which he is a member, defending it, if need be, with his life. The civilian does not."
brainbomb (295 D)

Brad that quote is only relevant in conscripted public service countrues where its mandatory to serve in the military. News flash thats considered part of transitioning into adulthood. Its also not paid and lavished with gold nuggets and benefits. Its mandatory

Build and retreat turns
Should 100% be put together they involve next no strategy and are quite frankly boring. I think the reason that this isn't the case as it could be confusing how ever a bit of graphic design would fix that e.g BUILD in bold and underneath that are build options and under that RETREAT in bold and under that are your retreat options

Posting links to pictures of messages?
Is that allowed in the rules? Ie. in an anonymous game, Italy is betrayed by Russia, so posts a link to an image posting site which shows the chat between the two? It seems like it shouldn't be but I can't see where it's prohibited.

Ghost rating question
I read the explanation on the GR website. I get that eliminating players in WTA improves the GR gain.
Do I understand correctly that an effort was made to make the GR score in SoS games based on centre count, but not implemented ultimately? So one should still kill off small powers (at the expense of centres elsewhere) to improve GR gains?

Does anyone know how to contact mods to help unpause games? I have one that's been on pause all month (game id: 199383) and one still on pause since 2014 when I was in high school (game id: 128401). Any way to terminate/resume/draw these games?

The voting buttons
I'm not entirely the "cancel" button does. It seems to have no propose to me. But one button I do recommend is a "kick" button for inactive players as they severely slow the game down. Of course, be a minimum time or number of turns before it's an option.
