http://webdiplomacy.net/map.php?gameID=201965&turn=11&mapType=large
I'm kind of a noob so this might be a dumb question.
I'm playing as France. The relevant bit is the move the army at Kiel support move to Denmark from Heligoland Bight. This fails because of Germany's move to Kiel from Munich, but Munich can't move there since it's being dislodged. Shouldn't my support move work since the Munich army is being attacked?

.. and perhaps longer if I can find a cheap place to stay or it's too fun to leave. I know that some of my webdip friends (and other webdippers probably) are from London, so if anyone wants to message me to see if we can meet up, exchange tips or even let me stay at your place for a while, please feel free! I'd love to meet some of you in person.

This is part of a spate of incidents, Hauta. A spate of innocent civilians being murdered by police officers who then avoid prosecution because.. reasons.

Because our laws make it extremely difficult to convict them. "Beyond a reasonable doubt" is a difficult standard to pin against a police officer.

@Jamiet, then let's get to it, because it's not really about 1 blonde Australian tourist getting killed by the police; it's about Blacks getting killed.

Looks like 963 police shooting in 2016. https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/national/police-shootings-2016/

Compare that with causes of death by gun violence -- 33,000. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/gun-deaths/

Is the crappy treatment Blacks get by cops a problem? Yes.
Do we have much bigger problems that we should be addressing? Yes.

Everyone having a gun would actually make police have to work even harder. Inevitably the liability of such a scwnario would be horrendous. Cops would be shooting first far more often regardless of training.

She wasn't a tourist, but a resident, and about to get married.

Well, by the "need to address bigger problems" the only issue is climate change. That doesn't mean we can't walk and chew gum and deal with the savagery and violence of the police. When cops kill more people per capita than gangs do, you know you have a problem
Hauta (1618 D(S))

Randomizer (722 D)

I'm surprised they shot her since she was white. Two heavily armed white guys in bullet proof vests walked into a police station and only got talked to.

Their body cameras were off so there is no evidence against the police officers unless they shot her in the back. They probably get off with a slap on the wrist for not having their cameras turned on.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Lots of white people get shot by cops. Sometimes it's different, and I imagine far fewer white people get irreparably profiled beforehand, but squashing the fact that white people get targeted by police violence too is a path to sensationalizing the problem in the wrong way.

@Zach..."Just saying if everyone had a gun and had adequate safety training for said gun we would be a lot safer " ....if no one had guns we would be safer still.

Just because you have a gun dosn't make you safer in much the same way as having a mobile phone so you can call for help dosn't make you any safer.

THE VAST majority of people do not want to shoot anyone even in self defence..

Look at Statistics for war zones and how many people shot to miss....

Jamiet99 seems to have a hatred of cops. Maybe hatred is too strong of word. Just like in any group of people, there are good cops and bad cops. Generalizing all cops is just as wrong as racism in any form. How about we judge each man or woman on their own merit. If these cops have done wrong then hold them accountable for their actions.

The funniest thing ever, is the fact that making guns illegal doesn't actually stop criminals from getting their hands on said guns..... The only thing it does is take guns away from law abiding citizens that might be able to actually use them in self defense. Gun accidents (and incidents) happen. It will continue to happen. But making these guns illegal won't stop criminals from getting their hands on these weapons
Hauta (1618 D(S))

By the same reasoning, does banning abortions stop them from occurring?
Ogion (3817 D)
21 Jul 17 UTC
Actually, sgt242, to date there are two kinds of cops: bad cops and the cops who cover for the bad cops. What's really remarkable here is that the police chief is suggesting this shooting was wrong. To my knowledge this is the first time any police official has suggested anything other than "the guy had it coming"

The "few bad apples" is convenient if you want to distract from the fact that this is a systemic issue with American policing.

Actually, banning guns reduces the death rate by a huge factor, simply because most shootings are by "responsible gun owners" right until they go unhinged in traffic or at a bar. And that's setting aside the suicides.

Statistics demonstrate pretty conclusively that owning a gun makes you substantially less safe.
Sgt242 (1143 D)
21 Jul 17 UTC
I have an open mind. Can you provide some statistics that make it substantially less safe to own a gun.
Ogion (3817 D)

Here's a few to get started. This is one finding that's been found over and over and over again over decades using a wide variety of approaches.

Ogion, I think you are making progress. Instead of putting all cops in one all bad category, you have at least came up with two equally bad categories. I t is easy to just generalize people putting them in classes or categories. It takes work to judge each person on their own merit. Liberals don't like work.
Ogion (3817 D)
21 Jul 17 UTC
(+1)
Ironic as hell that you'd lecture about putting people in categories... and then immediately put people in categories. In fact, liberals work a hell of a lot harder at this than conservatives who like to pretend all muslims are terrorists and all black people are free loaders.

No one ever made things better by ignoring systemic problems. It's a hell of a lot more work to push for changes and improvements than to sit around and not be bothered to even think about better ways of doing things
Randomizer (722 D)
21 Jul 17 UTC
We're seeing almost no support for the officers from their police union and Blue Lives Matter a police protest group formed against Black Lives Matter. This is a rare instance where the police aren't being supported by their groups and police chief as a knee jerk reaction.
MajorMitchell (1605 D)
22 Jul 17 UTC
I agree with Ogion's comments that strict & effective gun controls reduce gun deaths and gun caused injuries. There's evidence to support this, and it's antithesis, that lack of strict & effective gun controls is linked to higher rates of gun caused deaths and injuries.
Australia is a good example of effective gun control laws working, and the Conservative Howard Federal government's gun law reforms in the 1990's have led to a significant reduction in gun related deaths and injuries.. the twenty odd years since those reforms is the sort of time frame needed for statistical analysis to give a clear understanding of the effect of those gun law reforms, and it's clearly working.
Another damning proof from the USA about the tragic consequences of their "gun laws" is the number of children shot by a sibling using ( "playing with" ) Mum or Dad's gun.
With regards to the tragic shooting in Minnesota, I hope there is a proper investigation and then if appropriate, prosecutions. Any accused persons deserve a fair trial.

It's not even safe to go to your home's front door when police can shoot through your closed door before finding out it's the wrong house. Then they lie about what happened so it contradicts the physical evidence.

problem with many (most) american cities and towns - is that they no longer have "police" forces ... but "paramilitary police forces". their officers think they are soldiers and not police officers
Bladerunners (1019 D)

@randomizer - a violent attack in switzerland is rare. a violent / stupidic event (offensive or defensive) happens in the USA every few minutes.
MajorMitchell (1605 D)

Thanks Smokey Gem. The one thing that I think we need to do in Australia to further improve community safety in Australia is have much tougher penalties for people caught in possession of an illegal / unregistered gun. As far as I'm concerned, I think any person caught with an illegal firearm should, unless there are exceptional circumstances, be imprisoned. Suspended sentences, good behaviour bonds and fines just do not meet my expectations. If we have stringent controls on legitimate gun owners, which we do...then we have to have really tough penalties on illegal gun possession. And I think there should be extra tough imprisonment sentences if the person caught with the illegal firearm has a criminal record that has any prior conviction for any crime of violence, including domestic violence... or if they can be shown to be an "associate or member" of a criminal gang
MajorMitchell (1605 D)
29 Jul 17 UTC
The only situation where there should be leniency with illegal / unregistered firearms, is where the person voluntarily goes to the Police and surrenders a firearm..which we do have with periodic "gun amnesties".

I read the explanation on the GR website. I get that eliminating players in WTA improves the GR gain.
Do I understand correctly that an effort was made to make the GR score in SoS games based on centre count, but not implemented ultimately? So one should still kill off small powers (at the expense of centres elsewhere) to improve GR gains?
