Is Trump secretly movong left of center?
Just noting that between the promise to send a manned mission to mars which will cost a fortune, and the recent hint that the US may stay tye course with Paris Climate accords; is Trump actually going left?

Another terrorist attack kills two
How many more of these do we need to have before we start deporting these people or locking them up?

If you are truly interested in savings live, why not make cars illegal, since thousands more die in car accidents? And let;s make sodas and french fries illegal to stop Diabetes and Heart Attacks. you are more likely to slip and fall and die in your own bathroom than you are to die from a terrorist. The best plan would be to simply ignore them, they don't matter.
Hauta (1618 D(S))

Is it really terrorism or "just" a hate crime? Where's the line -- was San Bernadino a hate crime or terrorism?
Ogion (3817 D)
28 May 17 UTC
Precisely the question. Actually, hate crimes are terrorism.

But I'd say Tugster absolutely nails it squarely.
Ogion (3817 D)
28 May 17 UTC
But in reality, "hate crimes" are what you call it when terrorism is committed by white people. The reality is the targeting of civilians indiscriminately to push a political agenda is terrorism, whether it's right wing white nationalism or radical salafism.
brainbomb (295 D)

I agree hes a terrorist
Hauta (1618 D(S))

Google's definition of terrorism is: "the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims."

The article said that he's been captured on video attending alt-right rallies, giving Nazi salutes, so terrorism probably fits. But if "all" a guy does is rant against a group and then commits violence against them, that's a hate crime only because there's no political connection.
Smokey Gem (154 D)

@ Ogion...if the solution was as simple as " locking then Up " or deprting them It would have been done by now.

A lot of the primary basis of hard line doctrines of all types is that some group has more access to resourses be that wealth food or privilege.

If those things could be more equally balanced then hard line doctrines have less traction.

Terrorism will alatys occur on a minor scale simple maths with the number of people on the planet some will be the Dahli Lama some will be at the opposite end of the spectrum.. It is the vast majority who sit somewhee in the middle who have power to keep an equal access to resourses.

Unfortunaltey in the west we will never truly understand the motivation of the porrer nations.

That is why we are debating this on webdip and not out trying to feed ourselves or our families or work in sweat shops or minning enterprises that create vast wealth for us.

Nothing new in this but we are a very long way from real change or a real solution.

Im not saying I have greater insight , I have just driven down to the local fast food place and ordered in a drivthrough ..

By your standard, Hauta, 9/11 wasn't terrorism either because there was no political demand just a hatred of Americans. In fact, Nazis have some pretty specific political demands relating to murdering minorities or expelling them, so threatening them and attacking people bas d on arguments about precisely those political ideas is the textbook definition of altering to advance your political cause through violence. Dylan roof also was trying to achieve a political outcome: namely a race war
Ogion (3817 D)
28 May 17 UTC
@smokey, I was being a bit snarky in suggesting that we lock up the people who are suggesting we deport all Muslims. That argument easily cuts both ways.
Randomizer (722 D)

http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/24/opinions/homegrown-terrorism-opinion-bergen/index.html

Since 9/11 almost all terrorist attacks were done by native born citizens that became radicalized. These people were legally here because they were born in the country they attacked and couldn't be deported.

This doesn't include all the white US citizens attacking people because they mistakenly thought they were Muslims or just are racists against anyone that doesn't look white enough for their tastes.

@Ogion, 9/11 did have political aim. Note: a *demand* is not necessary. The political aim was something that the Saudis sought to achieve. When we see missing pages from the report we will know what that was.
Ogion (3817 D)
30 May 17 UTC
If you're saying cheating a conspiracy theory that the Saudi government and not Al Qaeda was.behind the attacks, I'd love to see that evidence. Because surely you realize that the reason why've al awards was in Afghanistan and not Saudi was because Al a Qaeda was also seeking to overthrow the Saudi government.
Ogion (3817 D)
30 May 17 UTC
And this has a political aim, namely to chase all people of color and nonChristians out of the country
Ogion (3817 D)
30 May 17 UTC
And to make thei allies and those who stand for liberty and justice for all feel afraid to speak up
Hauta (1618 D(S))
30 May 17 UTC
@Ogion, if Saudi wasn't involved, then why are some pages still classified?:
http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2016/04/11/saudi_arabia_and_the_28_classified_pages_of_congress_9_11_report.html

Second, your interpretation of "political aim" is so broad as to become meaningless. Politics implies that there are multiple people *working together* for a common political goal. To me, if a hate group organized the attack in any way, then I'd say it could be considered political. But where a hate group *merely* inspires an attack, I would not consider it terrorism, but rather a hate crime.

Third post, Portland apparently didn't cower anybody into being afraid, with at least 3 guys willing to speak up and sacrifice their personal safety.
Ogion (3817 D)
30 May 17 UTC
That would leave out San Bernardino and Orlando. Those were terrorism. Full stop.

This is precisely the kind of stochastic terrorism the right excels in. convenient to concoct a definition that excludes the way the white supremacists operate.

And god only knows why those are classified. Maybe they include exhonerating information that would reveal how the US can be certain teh Saudi government wasn't involved.

still, you're suggesting that the whole Afghanistan war and the campaign against Al Qaeda was a giant decades long wild goose chase?

Did you all hear about the terrorist attack in Egypt the other day where 28 or so Coptic Christians were killed by a racial Islamic terrorist attack?
Hauta (1618 D(S))
30 May 17 UTC
@Ogion, I concede that my definition of "political aim" was too narrow but I still think that yours is too broad. As for the missing 28 pages, the Bushes and Prince Bandar of Saudi were pretty close and members of the bin Laden extended family were allowed to fly out of the country when all other flights were grounded (See Fahrenheit 9/11!) One would think they'd like to get exonerating info out ASAP. And yes, the whole thing was a goose chase designed to keep America spending on the military. Haven't you heard? Wars are good for business! What better thing than a low simmer war that's expensive and can be ratcheted up or down as needed?
Hauta (1618 D(S))
30 May 17 UTC
@ND, yup I heard. What's your point? It's bad. I condemn it.

Should Jared Kushner security clearance be suspended?
http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/335243-dnc-suspend-kushner-security-clearance-amid-fbi-scrutiny

The DNC, for political purposes obviously, wants to suspend Jared Kushner's security clearance. What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason by Jared secretly met with the CEO from VEB, the Russian state-owned bank.

Why is Terrorism the only time people feel a visceral response?
I noticed recently there was an incident where a man crashed his car into multiple people injuring many and killing someone. But because it was not terrorism, people did not seem motivated in the same manner against alcoholism as they would have if he were a terrorist. If he had indeed been from any Muslim country at all, and also under the influence of alcohol, one has to wonder if people would just automatically assume it was a terror plot.

On how PPSC scoring does not encourage players to throw games
In our recent discussion (threadID=1432961), many mods and fellow pillars of the community claimed that when you have two Great Powers in a game that have between 12 and 16 supply centers, one of these Great Powers has a (D) points-incentive to throw the game. I disagreed and this puzzled my fellow users, but only Lethologica took the bait when I explained my position. Here it is again:
