I sometimes wonder if this quest to find a "meaning for life" is over rated. Why not just try to have a meaningful life ? I'm just happy to survive the rigours of the "purpose of life" ..procreation. I can be philosophical about it today, but when the fire breathing MemSahib, Her Indoors usually lying on a sofa eating cakes gets that glint in her good eye, and her invitational grimace of seductive intent across her daunting visage..as she did across the dining table recently... Then it's simply a case of downing a few "stiffening whiskies" before boldly going where few men have gone before. Mount Venus, or Mount Vesuvius, it's bloody bandit country, dense, steamy and unforgiving on those who falter or hesitate. Few route markers, if any. Think of it like Operation Chastise without any bouncing bombs to lob in first. It's strictly "hand to hand combat" with no prisoners taken, or quarter given. Once the "dam has been broken" there's no way to escape with four V12 Merlin's at full boost dragging you to safety. One has to hang about engaged in "mopping up" operations for what seems like an eternity. Then peace talks and a humiliating armistice with punitive reparations.
