Tax dodging and capital flight
Ok, this youtube video discusses it. In brief, company extracts mineral wealth, sells for a low price to parent company based in a tax haven, declares no/very little profit. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ocm42ytXto )

Probably not in the Bible but...
Before Jesus took over John's ministry what did people think of the fact that a man in his upper 20s wasn't married and had no children? Wouldn't that have been exceedingly rare at the time?

Then why doesn't it say "PPSC" ?
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

Weird that lots of old games have "Survivors-Win" scoring.

Like: gameID=103877

Is this a stupid Mod/Dev joke?

Older games tends to have SWS because it was initially the default setting.

It got renamed to SWS because that helped distinguish WTA PPSC (Sum of Squares) from non-WTA PPSC (Survivors-Win Scoring).

Points Per Supply Centre was confusing. People thought it meant they would get that number of points in a draw.

Survivors-Win Scoring is confusing. It implies that Survive and Win are the same thing.

I think it's about time we had a site-wide referendum to abolish the stupid Sum of Squares scoring system and re-instate the beloved PPSC.

@ DemonOverlord: But you agree that Sum of Squares sucks, right?

Let's just have WTA and nothing else.

No, I kinda like SoS tbh
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)

PPSC is an abomination that incentivizes kingmaking.

SoS isn't really that great either because smaller nations are marginalized further.
Durga (3609 D)

I abhor cutting the draw and SoS means you don't have to do that

"Survivors-Win Scoring is confusing. It implies that Survive and Win are the same thing. "

Why is that confusing? That's exactly what PPSC is.
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)

Cutting the draw is part of the game.

SoS can speed games up because cutting the draw is less important. I can also see it being beneficial in some tournament settings since tiebreakers are likely to be more granular.

Cutting the draw was never meant to be part of the game. Calhamer disliked it so much that draws were outright removed from several editions of the rulebook.

Cutting the draw is the most enjoyable part of a game.
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)

Citation needed there meme. Draws have always been part of the published game.

@captainmeme: If that's true I agree with Calhamer - I would support development work to make it possible to create games on WebDip with no "Draw" button.

"Survivors-Win Scoring is confusing. It implies that Survive and Win are the same thing. "

"Why is that confusing? That's exactly what PPSC is."

No it is not. It appears you're confused. So, I was right.
captainmeme (1632 DMod)
18 Apr 17 UTC
@Jeff - Draws were in the very first version of the rulebook, but were removed in the 1961 edition. They were not added back in until '71.
captainmeme (1632 DMod)
18 Apr 17 UTC
'61 dropped it in favour of the 'Short Game' rules: time limited games which were won by the player with the most pieces on the board at the time limit.

Also @Jamiet in PPSC, Survivors are rewarded, defeated players are not. Therefore, the Survivors win.
Jamie, PPSC was renamed over a year ago. Did you only really notice now?

@Captainmeme: Would you say that in the FA Premier League, 17 teams win and 3 lose?

@Peregrine: I don't spend much time looking over very old games. Why would I have noticed?

captainmeme:
"Why is that confusing? That's exactly what PPSC is."
'Survivors-Win Scoring' makes no sense for multiple reasons. (I thought this was already acknowledged by the powers that be, but I guess we're just getting ignored.) To begin with, PPSC scoring does not make 'survivors' 'winners' of any game. There is only ever one 'winner' who can declare 'victory' in PPSC games.

The stated reason for the name change ("People thought it meant they would get that number of points in a draw.") makes no sense since the name change didn't clarify that problem.

I am retiring from Trolling
I will henceforth focus my efforts on promoting games, offering opinions on actual issues and an occasional contribution that may be amusing. My goal was never to see the forum overrun with nonsense. Sadly its becoming unreadable and the threads are so abundant that trolling is now all thats happening. Sorry webdip for ushering in this era.

Completely unrelated thought
You can easily walk out the door and abandon your life, start over and become a new person. But can you do the same to your mindset? Can you drop all previous prejudices/perspectives/opinions, (but not facts) and build a new world view? A new model for interacting with reality?

About those earth rays..
Years ago, I started a discussion (and an infrequently used meme) about how I used to have severe headaches as a small child until a small metal device that my parents can't describe very well was buried in the frontyard and my headaches disappeared overnight. My parents cited mythical earth rays as the cause of the problem. The brilliant minds of webdip saw a placebo effect as the only possible answer. I found another possible explanation and would like your thoughts.

Barron von Trump just got admitted...
to middle school at St. Andrews Episcopal in DC. "Melania Trump cited the school’s diversity and academics as the reason behind the selection"
This was reported by Time Magazine.

Is anyone here aware of what kind of diversity a school with 38k tuition has? Even CAPT_Brad can't afford that!

Would a chimpanzee wearing a suit be more effective at advancing the republican agenda?
Trump has failed to advance most of his agenda. At what point are the investigations such a distraction that it would be better for the republicans to put in a chimpanzee wearing a suit instead?
