Yet Another Newbie Question
In a game, there was a support move order that was cut. To me, the graphic was ambiguous as to whom the support was provided. No player moved to the space. Is there a way to see the actual orders entered by my opponents after adjudication?

GvI 1v1 Strategy
A thread to talk about strategy and openings for GvI. Particularly from an Italian perspective.
So, I've become comfortable with FvA. I know generally how to open, how to play that. The same can't be said for GvI, however. I'm immensely uncomfortable in that variant, especially so as Italy.

Why is that? Because I feel constrained by Tyrolia, frankly. More often than not, he who controls Tyrolia wins the game. No beating around that bush. But it all seems too...Simplistic. In FvA, for example, there's a strategy to win as France even if you've allowed Austria to hold Berlin and Munich. But in GvI, if you lose Tyrolia (again, especially as Italy) you're paralyzed. To me, that's a huge flaw in the variant.

But it got me thinking, are there any moves where you could gain an advantage by allowing the other party into Tyrolia? With Germany, I figured fairly easily that Mun-Burgundy, Berlin-Munich was a strong opening. Perhaps even superior to the traditional Mun-Tyrolia, Berlin-Silesia opening.

But for Italy I'm at a loss. What does Italy's win condition look like? For me, it's Iberia+Marseilles+Sev. But could it be a different set of center? Could Italy safely abandon a larger portion of the Balkans, commit fully west and hope to win? Ven-Piedmont, Rome-Ven? Or perhaps go all in on the Balkans early and sacrifice Venice? (Ven-Tri, Rom-Ven followed by Tri-Bud, Ven-Tri, with fleet to Tunis) Or even use the fleet to bounce Venice in the fall while putting two armies into the Balkans (same as above, but fleet opens to Apulia and then Venice)

Each of those Italian openings supposed a different win condition. So, part of what I'm asking is, what SC's is it possible for Italy to win with?
Bump?

This is the only 1v1 game I've ever played, i definitely feel that we both missed opportunities in this game. I felt like the entire direction of the game was based on control of tyrolia and the centers that adjoined it. In the end, it required Iberia, the balkans, and Sevastopol to decide the win in Italy's favor. It is notable that Germany owned a large portion of the balkans or Sevastopol for most of the game.
Yeah, that's the mindset I've been shifting to (as far as centers needed for the win goes. I like the opening you did there. I just don't know if opening to Tyrolia is so strong, or if that's just the current meta. I would very much like to find ways to punish Germany for focusing too much on the Balkans.
A lá what I failed to do here

Yeah i probably should have made more happen with the Rome unit in the first few seasons. The one thing I got really lucky with was disbanding several of his units at critical times in the game. It seemed like his retreats really hurt you in the game you linked.

My analysis from the game above:
"You thoroughly whooped my ass, good game. Never played Italy, it is a rough endeavor. I think you have to move to tyrolia spring 01 or eat shit."

If you can get fleets past MAO you could make Germany pay. But it's hard to sustain builds when you are trying to sail the quickest way to the north.
So, you should always be able to beat Germany to Spain. But you're right, the issue of gaining MAO is a hard thing to do, because even if you rush west with the first fleet, you should really use the second one to the East.

I think after some extensive trial, I found the following innocent or amateur opening for Italy to be most flexible and deadly. A Ven > Tyr, A Rom > Ven, F Nap > TyrS.
You then have 2 branch of possiblitly, either you are bounced in Tyrolia or not.
If bounce, you can take Tunis either do A Rom > Tunis(convoy), F TyrS convoys A Rom > Tunis, A Ven > Trieste. Then you build 2 armies(Ven and Rom) to dislodge Tyrolia, and use A Tunis to move on Spain in the next year.
Or, you can do A Rom > Tus, F TyrS> Tunis, and A Ven > Trieste, build 2 armies(Ven and Rom) to dislodge Tyrolia and cover Pie with A Tus.
If not bounced, you might have an German army in Bur going to Mar, I would generally go for the 3 build, maybe go for Munich depending on what you feel.

While I agree that's a fairly good and standard Italian opening (one of two, imo), I was more looking for something that can turn the Germany's intentions on their head. I'm very much a reactive player in 1v1. Using FvA as an example, if I see France open to MAO instead of EC, I shift my entire battleplan north, intending on ceding Italy to France and tying up as many of his units in the south as possible, while I secure Germany and Scandinavia for a victory. Germany can have similar flexibility, depending upon if Italy opens to Tyr Sea or to Ionian in GvI.

But I'm still struggling to find a way where Italy can be flexible. I just don't think its possible.

I know you can see the date a game finished, but is there a way to look and see when it started? I am curious to see how long a game took to finish in real time.
