"People today are willing to deal with less shit and more likely to aggressively pursue an equitable society"
"If you advocate for complete equity, you'd want a government that only refers to you by number run entirely by unemotional machines with no discretion."
actually, it'd be one where they only interact with us when our rights are being violated, or somethings up with roads, the military, or taxes.
also i'd rather they be unemotional machines than the corrupt morons we have now so....
"See what you can do when you take people's positions to massive extremes?"
i'm fine with complete fairness. i'm just not sure we have the same view of what's fair.
"well after slavery" my ass, people above the age of 40 were alive at the same time as former slaves."
former slaves =/= slavery occurring.
My grandparents were in no way benefiting from the enslavement of others, in fact some of my relatives were being butchered in Europe around that time.
"Also, the notion that because there's no slavery, things are sufficiently equal is fucking absurd."
i'll admit things we're unfair, and i still have some problems with discrepancies in society today, especially with state housing laws and some financial practices. These discriminate again blacks and native americans in particular.
i do not however blame white males. i blame individuals. many of them are white males, many of them are actually dead and gone, and only left bad legal practices.
also: "sufficiently equal" is an arbitrary phrase. WHO decides when things are "equal enough" (here's a hint, it's the people demanding free shit)
then some conservatives say that they shouldn't be violent, and the reaction is "punch nazis!!! because everyone who disagrees with me is a trump supporting nazi!!!"
but instead of recognizing problems within the modern left, people on this forum call the conservatives snowflakes, and rant on about how equality=goodness and how large differences in income MUST mean something evil has taken place.
many times it has, i won't be naive but you should:
1. point at individuals
2. give evidence
3. don't blame races/sexes
4. accept when someone has simply worked hard to get ahead.
inequality is meaningless without proof of unfairness (inequity)
