He objected to my statement that that kind of bastard needs to disappear from the face of the earth. If that is objectionable, it necessarily implies that racism and sexism they represent should NOT be wiped from the face of the earth. Hard to interpret such a position as anything other than advocating for the preservation of such ideologies. There isn't a lot of wiggle room.

Objecting to the violent removal of individuals, however distasteful, is hardly the same as advocating that their beliefs or ideas should be preserved. If you really think that such a position has no "wiggle room" in it, then you really are the dangerous zealot for your cause that you seem to be.

Time and experience with individuals who defy racist or sexist expectations are far better methods for effecting a lasting beneficial cultural change rather than attempting to eradicate or convince stubborn individuals.

Read the quote. It was about the removal of that kind of attitude. It is a disingenuous trench to read it otherwise that is typical of apologists. History has shown that sweeping it under the carpet and minimizing its importance with false pieties and pearl clutching is the favorite strategy of those complacent with the status quo. This quote, the attitude it conveys, and the tone of your rhetoric throughout the thread has indicated a combative approach that polarizes people and makes those individuals who might agree with your goals oppose your approach.

Eliminating the bigotry of racism, sexism, and all kinds of other -isms is a fine goal, but people like you make a laudable goal look like a violent crusade against people whose most racist behavior may be to take a second, suspicious glance at a black man walking down the street by them. Do those people count as "bastards" that need to disappear?
