Best way to learn code
I want to learn how to code, but am having trouble deciding where to start. Their are many free resources, online classes, boot camps, etc. I would prefer to teach myself, but lack the knowledge to know what language I should be learning first and so on. Any tips from the experienced code writers here on WebDip?

New Scoring System Proposal
I don’t know if this has been suggested but:
1. In draws have everyone alive share the pot equally (As they should because SoS is garbage)
2. In a solo, the soloist gains a portion of the pot equal to 18* divided by the number of centers controlled by the soloist or survivors (but not neutral centers or those of resigned powers) and the survivors split the remainder proportionally based on their center count.

Obama's Farewell Speech
I am a Diehard Republican believe it or not WepDip. But Obama's speech tonight has helped me realize many things tonight......

DammmmDaniel (100 D)

He was a great president. I am more than willing to put aside my political differences to acknowledge just how much Obama has contributed to this country. Whether or not we believe in the policies that he preached; that he enacted... he did it for the greater good. President Obama has done his best to help ALL Americans prosper in what he thought would be the best way possible.

In his speech tonight he put aside party differences (except for subtle jabs that would've existed anyways). He pulled together a heart wrenching speech that really helped me see just what HE was striving to accomplish as a person. it really helped me realize just why President Obama did what he did. I still am and probably always be a Republican, but Obama's speech tonight has helped me gain a new-found sense of respect for the Republican party and Obama personally.

His respect for his wife his staff and his daughters was deep and emotional. He showed that despite his 8 years in office he still found parenting to be the greatest honor ever.

The Obama that I witnessed tonight was one that may have existed from the beginning but I only saw just right now. Maybe it is the fact that this was the first president that I saw existing from office, but I really truly have gained a newfound sense of respect for the man.

I guess what I am really trying to say is that I can proudly say that I am glad that President Obama served for these past 8 years. He may not have been the president that I personally wanted but he did a damn good job.

Thoughts?Opinions?

Really enjoyed the part about how it is essential for former presidents to help new presidents into office regardless of parties (he mentioned bush helping him in)
And Slypups even though I identify from a different party I respect Bipartisan efforts and good leaders overall. Obama has championed what is best for the people and I can honestly respect and agree with actions like that. He also has great leadership skills which are hard to miss.

I thought the speech could have been better. The best farewell addresses delve into difficult, controversial, truths that implicate the speaker as much as the audience. They are the speeches we remember, not because they were civil, but because they are raw and honest. The two most memorable ones? Washington's entangling alliances, Eisenhowers military industrial complex. This was not that speech, it could have been, and probably should have been.
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)
11 Jan 17 UTC
Obama delivered a great farewell speech. He did not need to warn us of the growing dangers we face like Washington or Eisenhower. Those are obvious.

The American people needed something else right now. So Obama ended where he began: With a message of HOPE.

There's no denying Obama is a fantastic speech-reader, but there's also no denying he has been the second-worst president of this century.

The only positives in his eight years at the helm were some uplifting speeches and normalizing relations with Cuba. Aside from that, all he did was perpetuate all the worst policies of Bush II - endless wars, uncontrolled debt, hundreds of billions of dollars in graft disappearing into the hands of God knows who, a totalitarian police state that claims the legal right to murder its own citizens, extralegal prisons where people are held indefinitely without trial, destabilized an entire region resulting in the deaths of millions of people, armed American police better than most third-world militaries and then wondered why they're killing so many people, sicced federal "regulators" on businesses that failed to support him, had the IRS target political opponents, did nothing as his top officials lied to congress and the public over and over, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera...

And on top of that, he drove health care costs through the roof with Obamacare - giving us all the worst of both socialist and semi-capitalist health care systems, and requiring all Americans to pay a penalty for the heinous crime of existing.

Thanks, Obama. The saddest thing about you is that kids like Daniel think you're great, because you're the least terrible president they've ever known.

"This was not that speech, it could have been, and probably should have been."

Obama is too consumed by the narcissism of his generation to do something like that. Good leaders come from hard times, our last three presidents all missed out on those.

BAD: Smug man, not caring about any unification
GOOD: Economy has improved in the last 8 years
BAD: Gives zero shits about debt and has hurt our economy for years to come
GOOD: Symbol of peace in the world
BAD: By pulling out on any threat he gives foreign leaders. Also Benghazi. And ISIS's rise to prominence. And red line in Syria. And not inviting Israel to anti-terror conferences, but inviting Turkey. And leaking Israel strategies from state office. And seeing ZERO connection between Islam and Terrorist motives. At all. Not even 1%.
GOOD: Equality in gay rights!!!
BAD: By violating states rights, and also forcing churches to do ceremonies, and also... there's still gay discrimination in 39 (i think it is) states. so yeah
GOOD: socialized healthcare...! (is this good???)
BAD: Gives zero shits about debt and has- wait I typed this already. Oh.
GOOD: first black President!!!
BAD: led to first Orange President

end on GOOD:

he's at his end ;)

Reagan - Turned tail and fled Lebanon at first major terrorist bombing, traded arms for hostages with Iran - showed the MidEast that the US would cave in at the first sign of trouble. Also his CIA hired Osama bin Ladin.

Bush I - Explained to Saddam Huissen how US spy satellites worked - Made it possible to hide during Gulf War I.

Clinton - Got the budget to run a surplus, increased US business sales abroad

Bush II - Got us bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan

I frequently visit another website, Fark.com. One person there posted a great list of Obama's accomplishments in the comments thread regarding last night's farewell address. There's a link to it below. The comment by "hugram" (#15) has a lot of information.

Maybe it will put Obama's presidency into better perspective for people with an open mind.

government surplus, but DEBT DEFICIT. The way they measured gov't holdings was different back then. over Clinton's 4 years, the national debt GREW.

I saw the charts, YOU THINK THAT WAS ALL OBAMA?

WHAT?

WHAT?

He isn't the entire arbiter of our economy, he is a part of fiscal policy, and he hasn't one well there. What, did you think there WASN'T going to be a recovery after 2008, and Obama is the ONLY reason we went back up??? bullshit. he did get us some stimulus boosts, but he's caused quite a bit of damage. Employee price index is going VERY high. Where's THAT?

Tolstoy: No, you're part of the problem. The first half of your rant made harsh, valid critiques that those in the left make. You could have continued by accusing Obama with harsh realities like extending the Bush tax cuts. Instead you delve into the world of conspiratorial Fox News fantasy with accusations that the Obama administration manipulated regulators and the IRS.

We need to be honest with ourselves about where the Democratic establishment has failed us if we don't want to be stuck with maniacs like Trump for years to come.

Firstly I'll bet pal Putin is laughing all the way from Kremlin to Swiss banks. He could probably buy the "Trump financial Empire" with chump change from his $US 40+ billion private fortune.
It'll definitely be interesting to see how the Republican party in full.control of Congress and Senate & Trump go over the next four.( or eight years ?) and how that plays out.
For example, after say two years of Trump, is there a response at State level, will elections for state governors show a continuation of support from Republicans or will there be a swing to the Democrats at that level, or with the big city councils...the levels below Federal might be where the Democrats have to build strength in before recovering at the Federal level ?
slypups (1889 D)

Expecting the Trump formula to play out: lots of bluster and looks good in the short run (midterm elections), but bankrupts everything in the end (maybe in time for 2020).
