This Tournament will be played exclusively on the France vs Austria map.
Each set between two players will consist of two games, with each player playing each country once. With a 2-0 or 1-0 result, the player with more wins is declared the victor of the set. In the event of a 1-1 or 0-0 result, a third game will be played with nations randomized, and the winner of this game will win the set. If the final game is drawn, the player playing France (the slightly weaker nation by vDip stats) will be victorious.
If a player loses two sets in total, that player will be eliminated from the tournament. Generally, a player will be matched against another player with an equal number of set losses, although this may not be true towards the end of the tournament. The tournament bracket will be arranged using the site Challonge, which is renowned for creating good Double Elimination Brackets.
There is a possibility a player will get a bye for one round, meaning they will progress through one round without playing in that round. This counts as a set win (so does not count as a step towards elimination), and Challonge works to minimise these and ensure the byes are distributed fairly.
The phase lengths of each game will be 24h, with players encouraged to ready as soon as possible. This is to try to ensure that the tournament does not carry on for too long, as every game in one round must finish before the next round can begin.
Each player will get one week total of pause time over the tournament, which can be used by contacting the Tournament Director (
userID=41379). Players can request games to be paused for any amount of time from a minimum of 1 day to a maximum of their remaining pause time. This can be done by voting pause, provided the TD is informed this is happening - do not pause games without sending the TD a message.
A CD in a game will count as a loss for that game. NMRs are not punished aside from this, since in a 1v1 it only disadvantages you and advantages your opponent. Failure to join a game in time will also be counted as conceding that game to your opponent.
Games are unranked with a 5 point bet, which is always the case for 1v1 games on WebDiplomacy. Full Press is encouraged to allow trash talk in Global.
In the event of a stalemate being reached and held for 2 years, the TD will force draw the game (after significant analysis of the gamestate and whether it is a true stalemate). Players will also get the opportunity to tell the TD whether they believe it to be a stalemate and what their plan is going forward. Other force draw requests will be considered on a case by case basis, but if it is not a true stalemate the game will not be force drawn unless it is clear neither side is going to make any progress.
Since no 1v1 standings are available for webDiplomacy players (These are new variants!) seeding will be random.
