Bit harsh, old chap. If bitching is what it is then it's a very mild example. The perspective of those new to the site is rather valuable and offers insights that those who have been here a while lack.

Time for an attitude shift, 2nd. Meta wasn't 'bitching'. He was making a reasonable suggestion for an improvement to the site. Maybe you (and he) aren't aware that recently Ogion led a very thorough and constructive consultation on exactly this subject and some developments are anticipated in due course.
This is an excellent site, but it isn't perfect. An immediate improvement could be for you to be receptive and polite when somebody offers a reasoned opinion.

Well if you think it's anything other then a 100% that this is his only account then you're making a multi accusation on the forum which is against site rules. So I'll run with the assumption that you're assuming this is his only account.

There's an odd comma in there obscuring the meaning, but I'm going to assume it's a splice as opposed to just an unneeded comma, meaning that ssorenn was merely asking a question about gambling while also affirming his belief that it is in fact his only account.

ok you all! I like the site better than phpDiplomacy which I was playing on Facebook. I like the fact that colors are associated with countries! But I think it gets distracting after you've made that connection, and then there's other colored texts on the page. Call me meta I don't care about that. I like to offer IMHOs because I think if more people did, there would be more discussion and life would be better for everyone. This is my only account btw.

phpDip over at facebook is an (I believe older) version of this site's code base. We have the advantage of being more up to date and having more and better players, so welcome!

As for colors, I think a lot of people like them. The first two comments by phil and abge give a couple reasons why.

As for multiple accounts, that's good to hear. Just so you know, it's against the rules to have more than one.

I think a lot of people got a bit annoyed at you because you showed up on the site and immediately started making suggestions in a somewhat demanding tone. If you'd like to help out, the code base is open source, and I believe you can get in contact with the admins about what the process would be for implementing your own changes and having them incorporated here. You might also like vdiplomacy.net, which also runs on the same code, but is focused on testing new variants and features. As GOD said, there's an option there to turn the colored text off. You're also free to make suggestions, of course, but keep in mind that they require work by other people and often aren't as trivial as they might seem. Two threads in one day about different suggestions might be a bit excessive too.

Another suggestion... how about a version of the game where war is explicitly declared between nations. Totally different game, I know. But say it is that way, and then you couldn't attack w/o declaring war 1 turn b4 you attack. Then maybe there would be more discussion among players and use of alliances? Interesting variant?

meta: What would you suggest instead of coloured messages? Just leaving them all black, with the sender at the start?

I think there needs to be some consolidation among the fonts in this game. Every word doesn't have to be a different color or style of text ... it's like looking at a kaleidoscope ;) Some more uniformity would go a long way I think. IMHO.

IMHO, let's try to enjoy the site first and see if the nuances that you find strange become more comfortable and disappear over time. Happens with babies seeing their noses every time they look forward. After a month or so, their brain blocks it out, but it still serves a purpose.

I agree that your suggestion is relevant. Have you considered developing a color configuration plug-in? Other players struggle with the layout as well, particularly the color-blind, etc.

IMHO, saying IMHO is quite redundant. IMHO, people assume you're sharing your honest opinion unless you say otherwise anyway. Therefore, IMHO, saying "I said IMHO" is a poor excuse, since at no point did I think that you were not sharing that with us IYHO so the fact that you say IMHO changing nothing about how it sounds.

That said, IMHO, you didn't do anything wrong, but IMHO, you shouldn't try to hide behind "IMHO".

IMHO means "in my humble opinion", and I think it conveys a more gentle approach to a conversation than without it. Some text can come across as snippy and opinionated rather than a constructive thought.
