@steephie Did I say any of this was a "problem"? Either with the drinking or the thread. I think it was a bit silly,and the only reason I felt compelled to say something in this thread is because I've noticed it since Sunday and I only bothered to read any of it today.

Regardless the thread asked for opinions, and I've shared what I intend to share. Though I don't think anyone can defend the idea of trying to understand alcohol amounts through mass and density calculations instead of volume. ;)

@Draugnar: If you mean to say something with that, you might want to say it in a less confusing way. I know it's a quote from a writer you love, and I know which, but it's still confusing :)

If you know the volume and the density, it really doesn't matter wether you convert to grams, I just did that because the page said 10 grams so converting didn't require googling the volume of alcohol in a standard drink...

Steephie, you're very confused. You *don't* know the density of different drinks, so it very much matters. You, do, however, know the density of alcohol, so just convert 10g to 12.5mL and move on with your life.

The volume and density of alcohol I meant. The volume and mass of the rest of the drink are not mentioned in the formula, only how much alcohol is in it. Wether I use 10g or 12.5mL of alcohol to define the Standard Drink doesn't change the outcome at all, assuming your 12.5mL is accurate. That's all I'm saying.

Your biggest problem was the confusion of grams (or ml) per ounce being in the 200 range. When you are off by an order of magnitude, it will really screw up your calculations.

I wasn't using ounces until you started mentioning them though, so I think I did it right the first time :-)

It isn't worth going back to look I'm detail, but you said something about the numbers not even being close, so you had something wrong.

From the top of my head that'd be that the damian's 4 Standard Drinks wasn't even close to my 6 Standard Drinks.
