Does anyone read the "webdipmod" emails?
I've sent two now, got no response and seen no action taken. Should I be emailing somewhere else? Perhaps whispering someone?

Contemporary Jazz
I've only recently started really listening to jazz but my collection is currently stunted at the classic jazz greats (Davis, Mingus, Monk, Brubeck, etc.) and I don't really know anything more recent. Does anyone here have some suggestions as to where I should start?

Let's say I want to introduce a new digital currency
And it's not a way to make money, it's just to see how I could introduce a new digital currency, perhaps as an alternative to bitcoin, how would I do it? And I'm not talking about how I'd build the website, or how I could advertise it: I'm interested in the principle of a digital currency that is simply launched.

What to visit in Asia
I'm going to study in Hong Kong (the place down there where they don't eat people) for a while so I could use some pointers in what to visit in nearby Asian locations by veritable globetrotters of webDip. Please understand that I'm on a student budget that will be severely strained by gambling orgies in Macao and Thai shemale hookers and blow coined by the vodka refreshment on my trans-siberian railway road back to Europe so be considerate of the possible price tags.

Erawan National Park in Thailand if you can get there... the Waterfall Pools are amazing.

It's quite a hike from southeast China, but I strongly recommending seeing western China and Yunnan offers a diversity of topographies, interesting sites to see. In the north of Yunnan you have the Tibetan plateau and in the south you have the jungles of southeast Asia. Xishuangbanna area is pretty great.

Is it easy to get to Yunnan? Ive heard somewhere that Western China is not so accesible to foreigners. Or does that only apply for Tibet proper and Xinjiang?

I recommend Beijing, I hear it's a very healthy place for lungs... While you're their a visit to a factory employing child labour is very nice, and don't forget to buy snake venom and tiger balls, I hear they are very healthy. Also, sharkfin soup would be nice, you get a healthy dose of mercury AND get to ruin the aquatic ecosystem, 2 in 1.
But fk china, go to Thailand and get a sucky sucky, on your way back on the Siberian railroad, I strongly recommend a visit to a gulag. I'm not an expert so if you want to find out more PM putin33. I'm sure he knows of all the gulag (or "correctional facilities" as he like to call it) tours.

Accessible? It's perfectly accessible. You don't need any special permit to get to Yunnan.
Putin33 (111 D)
02 Dec 13 UTC
I would also say Gansu is worth seeing. Again you do not need a special permit (if that applies at all it is only to Tibet proper). Of particular interest are Dunhuang and Xiahe. Fourwheeling in Xiahe was truly breathtaking.
How far do you want to go?
What do you want to see??
Asia is a freaking big place with loads to see

If you're thinking of further west in Asia then Samarkand might be worth a visit.
Agree with BrownPaperTiger. I'd give you advice, but need a bit more than 'in Asia'. Do you plan on travelling a lot? Is airtravel possible? What do you like doing? Do you consider Iran to be Asia?

If you are male, one thing I would definitely recommend is trekking. Most countries in Asia are pretty accessible, cheap and safe.

If you like food, go to Taiwan. The street food there, especially in Taipei, is unparalleled, and the local cuisine blends elements from different parts of China and Japan into a cohesive whole. It's also pretty inexpensive -- to the point that many young people don't know how to cook, because it's cheaper to eat out than to buy groceries.

OK, thanks, Putin.

I should've specified that I was mostly interested in Southeast Asia and China. Central Asia, India, Korea, Japan are off limits. Air travel is no problem, especially given how cheap intraasian flights are.
Then you should make sure you go to SaiGon for a few days. Cheap and fun.
Also, Id suggest, if you can do it, get to the Snow and Ice Festival in Harbin. That will be in full swing next month. They do one in Hokkaido, but you said Japan is off limits.
YMMV - I can't claim to have been all over Asia or anything.
Oh, and the limestone lumps round Guilin are pretty amazing too.

I will also be doing most of the travelling (especially long-term) after the Summer Term ends, say May-July.
Putin33 (111 D)

First week of May is a hellish week to travel in China. Trains are crammed. Don't try to rough it if you go that week (everyone is on holiday). Wound up sitting on the floor for a 15 hr ride from Shanghai to Changsha. Because I was a fool and took a hard seat.

The nice thing about Yunnan, if you decide to go there, is the weather is very mild despite being in the southwest. I went there during June & July. And it was very pleasant.

U.S. Minimum Wage Increase
This is aimed primarily at conservatives or rightists, if you oppose raising the minimum wage what is your alternative solution? There is clearly a very significant problem and the degree of government subsidies being paid to workers of profitable industries in order to meet basic needs is too high.

High School Gamers
As it has been a frequent item of forum discussion around here - the fact that we have large group of high school kids playing -- is there a way we can find out which players are associated outside the game (i.e. who logs in from the same IP?) to prevent players from getting in games with the high school gamers?

Need to think of a gift for me.
So I was thinking Call of Duty: Ghosts or Battlefield 4, but as it turns out I can't run either, though by a close margin.

Anyone a nice idea?
