I had originally intended that we not know eachothers' identities at all so—in a world where masons live in secret—we would be less likely to tip off scum so we could reveal in the late game.

There were plans for all sorts of secret codes. (I think you found one of them, even, Xorxes. Did you?) But after Hosuke revealed, it made more sense to do it that way.

For the off chance that I was killed and revealed as Mason, Hotsuke would need a way to confirm his own identity.
